I find it interesting that they kind of gave him three command styles that seem to represent light, dark, and twilight (Rising Wing's light coming from Riku's body is kind of dim, his wings are black, and there are dark particles in the finisher). Rising Wing was always my favorite. It just looks so awesome to fight that Wargoyle with it and Char ... whatever that boss was called in Monstro didn't require you to flip the arena while active. That said; Bladecharge is probably more useful (discounting level 1 which I have never played) due to the blade's range being added to your physical commands. Dark Splicer with Bladecharge is awesome.

Oh yeah, that's a good point. It's also kind of interesting that Dark Splicer sort of uses some of the OG Dark Aura animation too before he starts attacking. Kinda strange when Dark Aura is already in the game, but this whole title was like a love-letter to Riku anyway, so whatever, lol.

Lol, kind of hard to ignore the Sky Climber influence in Rising Wing, though I also feel like some of the wind elements were borrowed from Cyclone as well, just with less of a raid and skateboard emphasis. I really like how Blade Charge has become more of a Light-based style change this time around, and Ghost Drive becoming more Darkness-based just compliments that even further. It really helps show Riku's mastered dexterity with both Darkness and Light, having two Light styles (Shining Hammer and Blade Charge) and two Darkness styles (Darkest Fears and Ghost Drive). It's like he gets the best of both Terra and Aqua in terms of magic and strength attributes combined with his own slightly speedier combat style. Also, one thing I wanted to point out, with the more Darkness-based styles like Darkest Fears and Ghost Drive, there seems to be more of an emphasis on claw strikes and stuff. Between the claw-based attacks of Darkest Fears and the claw marks of Ghost Drive, along with dark wings of Rising Wing, I feel like Riku's combat style takes some "animalistic" influences due to fusing with the Dream Eaters, at least for the more Darkness based styles. It kind of makes sense since Darkness tends to be depicted as a more feral type of fighting style and attribute, and considering that Riku fuses with dream animals in order to access these powers, it makes sense that he takes on a little bit of the animal traits when fighting, though it's nothing crazy. It's actually kind of cool.

Ghost Style. That one is my favorite. The way he dashes around the enemy. Like Ichigo's bankai from Bleach. Then finishes with a Dark Aura type attack. Of all the forms he should've had in KH3, this would be my number 1 choice

Fun thing: Bladecharge itself is a reference to one of Leon's abilities in his various fights across the series, and its' finisher is a reference to Squall's "Blasting Zone" Limit Break in Final Fantasy VIII

I love how Riku’s ghost drive actually has ghost effects 👻 compared to BBS which was only teleport and afterimages. Btw Riku’s Ghost Drive finisher is based on his attack as dark Riku.

Ghost Drive should be Riku’s official Command style, similar to how Ventus has wingblade and Aqua SpellWeaver and Terra Dark impulse.

Riku actually has a Dual Style exclusive to the Armored Ventus Nightmare fight called Nightmare Clash, reminds me of when Ventus was given the Vanitas D-Link

I remember getting a glitch on the 3DS version on the final level when I had Bladecharge on and was fighting the Nightmare cost boss. I blocked a physical attack, and then he essentially never stopped attacking my shield, leaving my game effectively soft locked. Another one with Bladecharge was when I was using a reaction command on one of the walls. And also, never stopped. I never bothered using Riku's form changes again

ghost drive is a mix of dark splicer and dark aura, if you have all combo plus and air combo plus abillities, the finishe becomes incredibly long and can glitch phase 2 ansem.

I just thought of something. Those Data rings you pointed out for the Bladecharge Style, don’t those look similar to the rings that appear during the combo finisher for Sora’s Double Arrowguns in KH3?

Hmm... Is there data rings in that? I thought that was the prongs on the blaster spinning!

The prongs do spin, but there’s also a blue ring that forms around them. As it forms, it looks like the data rings we see for Bladecharge. Back in your Double Arrowguns Breakdown, you referred to those blue rings as rings of energy. I think that the ones here for Bladecharge are the same, energy rings, rather than data rings because the rings here actually don’t remind me of data. When you were looking at this, why did the ring design here remind you of data?

It may not be data, but it does match up really closely to Terra's effects which always struck me as a data like effect. Hmm I'll have to go back and look at the double arrowguns now xD

Riku's combat is more interesting than Sora's in 3D in my opinion because of the Link and Dual Styles. I understand why Sora had combination attacks with the Dream Eaters since combination attacks were a huge combat mechanic in KH2, but so were drive forms so it felt a little out of place for Sora not to have any sort of transformation or enhanced state. That's why I'm glad they included them in KH3. That being said, with all of the fun abilities Riku had in 3D, it's a shame that none of them appeared in KH3 despite him retaining his powers after the events of that game (from a narrative point of view) while Sora lost everything which is why he started from scratch. Aqua's combat in 0.2 and KH3 at least felt very reminiscent of her BBS combat, even though it was greatly toned down compared to what she could do in that game.

Actually, I belive that Riku has the unique ability to fuse with his Dream Eaters because he was himself a Dream Eater. But I must admit that I really didn't like playing as Sora in DDD.

Didn't you say in Aqua's breakdown that her version of Ghost Drive uses elements of both light and darkness? It should be worth pointing out how Riku's version has a much more darkness-based look, especially when Blade Charge (in both versions) seems more light-based, and Rising Wing seems to use both light and darkness.

I think the komori bat/meow wow dual style might have been changed in the HD version, because that always produced bladecharge on 3DS, rather than being overwritten by rising wing.

interesting tidbit if you have Riku's dark Dodge ability equipped, ghostdrives dodge does not override it (at least for 3ds version) it'll still show for air dodges tho

To be honest, the biggest string bridging Riku to the BBS styles is due to Terra. I mean, Blade Charge is obvious(Both Aqua and Terra can use it) but Ghost Drive is a major mystery. It's one of Aqua unique styles yet Riku has it...? It's only seems to be that Riku is somewhat a shadow of Sora, like how Vanitas told Ven and Sora that he is "the shadow that they cast." Riku though seems to be the "dark", alluding as to why he could be the "shadow" that Sora "casts." Get it?

@@Rain-kh3kq ^This, and also in general his fighting style leans on Aqua's a lot, with Doubleflight and Dark Barrier. Gameplay-wise I don't think anybody's a 1:1 copy of their 'mentor,' they all remix the three archetypes that each crew represents.

There's a few reasons why it's the way it is. 1) Sora likes to fight alongside his friends, while Riku's more likely to fight alone 2) Link Attacks resemble the Limits in KH2, while Link Styles are of course a version of the Command Styles in Birth by Sleep. Riku's closer in personality to the BBS crew, so it's reasonable to assume he'd end up fighting more similarly to them. 3) Riku effectively is a Spirit throughout the majority of DDD, so it'd make sense that he'd have an easier time merging with them. 4) Riku straight-up uses Bladecharge in Days
