I love your discussion of G to Eb, for those wondering more about it it is called a chromatic mediant and it has become embroiled in film music. Another movement of the chromatic mediant (in G major still) is to Bb, this also sounds cinematic but has seemed to have been claimed for fantasy (LOTR, Game of Thrones, etc). I always wonder why one was used for sci-fi (Eb) vs fantasy (Bb), and it stems from the temp music used to edit films to before the composer dubbed them (vestiges of temp music inevitably influence the composer’s score, no matter how original). Gustav Holst’s suite “The Planets” was heavily temped for space movies in the 70s, and then those scores were temped on future movies etc. until the sound was so heavily associated. The same thing with fantasy and Mahler, early Stravinsky, etc. temped and then became the sound. Apologies for over-discussing, just a bit of music theory/history that has been fascinating to me. Really beautiful performance, thank you for sharing with us :)

Did not expect my favorite composer on this channel! FYI: The theme played is A-G-A-B-E because the b is called an h in German notation (yes, our musical notes are ahcdefg. For similar reasons, Shostakovich's DSCH theme is created by d-eflat-c-b). So in German the theme is AGAHE for Brahm's friend (and former fiance!) Agathe von Siebold. Nicely played btw. I know Brahms chamber music is quite challenging, though it always sounds pretty simple.
