But seriously, for 20 bucks looks like you did ok but if it wasn't in the description on eBay I'd make sure my feedback reflected that.

Thanks for the comment Mike. Ironically I just got done editing a Bushlore review, with my friend Chris Wilkes and I'll be putting it up very soon. Look for it.

Check out the full tang BPS B1 bushcraft knife, it a 1066 carbon steel 28.99 Ukraine version of this knife. Don't let the inexpensive price fool you, it's a good mid-level knife with a true 0 scandi grind and has the same edge retention as my Mora companion.

Its been dipped in white vinegar for cleaning rust off for too long, regards, David.
@johnsanders82873 жыл бұрын
That is exactly what happened!! I ve done it myself before I learned, forcing a patina DOES remove material. I learned the hard way... to submerge the handle... I cut an old hickory mod. Right where I d made a choil. Took a minute to figure out. But those thin carbon steel blades like condor and more, can be cut with a file over half way through, and still not break.

You are exactly right. Seen the same happen when cleaning a few of my old knives.

I've purchased four Condor knives and one machete. I only have complaints with one of them, and they're insignificant. Just a kydex sheath that isn't very tight, and a scandi grind I had to smooth out a little. I love every Condor product I have.

I agree I think that's a defect that is going all the way through the blade. And like you I would be afraid of depending on it. I'd use it for a shop knife around the house. Still got a good price on that model.
@pacificbushcraftandfirecra63587 жыл бұрын
Don't blame you for being weary of the defect, it does look suspect. Otherwise, looks like a great size knife. Great video rabbit! TFS

Hey TSP. Its an awesome knife. I've had it on my belt since that video. No hard use or anything like that, but it's been great. Love the size.......If it DOES break, idle likely get a new one. digging it.

Looks like a stress fracture in the blade, usually a heat treat issue, I work in die stamping and we punch out clips using 1/8 inch stainless steel with die sections, the part of the die involved in the blanking (cutting) operation that have those same fractures and they perform in that scenario just fine. Stainless steel is one of those metals that is super hard on integral stamping details. FYI. I think you"re fine. Thanks for all your information.

I have had bad luck with two out of three Condor knives! Mostly QC issues. Condors are a very good budget knife to learn your knife skills. After that it can be your backup! Save up and check out some knives for a few dollars more. Thanks! Great video!

I have one of these and have re-worked the edge and tweeked it a bit,,,it is a good knife, I make knives and have a variety of old and new knives. I carry my Condor a lot, it is nice to use and if it gets lost I have not lost a lot of money. The line on yours might be residual from the forging process (look at hand-forged axes they have some warts and wrinkles). Usually knives are polished up or bead-blasted (this one might not have been finished properly). 1065 Carbon Steel is a good, but not 'fancy' knife steel.

Back around 1975 a buddy and I were up around Traverse City, Nesson city to be exact deer hunting! He had a shotgun with slug in it and shot into a tree to check his accuracy. He wanted to look at the slug so he borrowed my brand new Buck Sheath knife and that thing snapped like a pretzel stick! Knowing now what I know about steel, it was either cast steel or a poor grade of steel! Never owned one since! I stick with my old Westerns!

I bought an old Nepalese Kukri that had a forge crack in it that did not show up in any of the pictures on eBay. I was also pretty concerned about it so I broke out the old Dremel Tool and ground it out. Mainly so it would not foster deep rust. Fortunately it was a pretty shallow crack and I ended up creating a nice little fuller. The knife is still going strong today, chops like a dream.

I've got a bushlore too, that does look alot like a fault, but it may just be the clear coat they pit on it? see if it comes off with paint thinner or some fine grit sand paper
@Bushradical7 жыл бұрын
Its right in the steel. I bought it used and the guy who sold it to me "removed the coating" I bet he wanted to know if it was just in the clear coat too. I sharpened the blade and couldn't remove the lines where they cross through the going area. I contacted condor and they are sending me a new knife, even though I wasn't the original buyer.

The blade on my Bushlore has microchipping all along the blade edge after doing some simple carving on a Cedar walking stick. Those little knobby knots on the surface of the Cedar were too much for Condor's 1075 steel with an apparent bad heat treatment.
@Bushradical7 жыл бұрын
bad deal! I dinged my hudson bay knife bad trimming off small branches on a hemlock tree. Hemlock knots are THE hardest knots out there and they destroyed my blade.
@Shaker4x47 жыл бұрын
I've seen a couple of complaints regarding the blades on these knives folding back on themselves. It puts me right off buying them, however I really like their Duku, and Mini Duku Parang Machetes, just bought the mini, and it's a beast of a blade.

I think it would be awesome of the company if they send you a new knife.... With that being said looks like 20 bucks well spent, I would have $20 worth of fun out of it just seeing how far I could push it before it did fail and I know thats what I would do if they sent me a new one and maybe do some positive videos about the little knife. I thought for sure it was going the fail during the test you put on it. anyway would make some good content for the channel. Im gonna sub and stay tuned.

one of my buddies on Instagram bought this knife and while doing a live chat to show off his knife he stuck it into a log when he pulled it out the tip was gone. lol condor returned his money. That Crack would make me very nervous. it did take some abuse but if I was you I would bring a back up.
@Bushradical7 жыл бұрын
Yeah I sent condor a link to this vid with a run down of the issue...we'll see what they say.
@AdventureTimeOutdoors7 жыл бұрын
Bushradical I should do the same with my hudson bay knife. I won it in a giveaway but it came brand new in the box and wrapped in plastic with dents in the edge and smeared epoxy all over the handle. I get that it is a budget knife but man sending things like that shows they just don't care. I will keep it and treat it like a project knife. but for my first condor... I don't think I would buy one! I think there are other better budget companies out there with much better QC. With a possible fault like in your knife that shouldn't have never hit the market. it may last forever but just visually that's a red flag. great video brother
@Bushradical7 жыл бұрын
Thanks ATO. I've heard several times that Condor's QC is lacking. My Hudson bay and my Woodlawn have been the best of knives, but this bush lore , with the big line running through it just goes to prove the point about their questionable QC. I'll make sure Condor is fully aware of the issue and we'll see what they do. I already sent them a link to this vid.

Hey Lars! pretty weird eh? I do like the knife. Been using it ever since. so far so good. Have you ever checked out the British Military bags. Cheap and warm. Pretty heavy though. They are rated for -20 F......so about +20 you should be fine LOL.

Got a Carinthia 4 on the way. Got it very cheap from a young woman who used it twice and decided that it wasn't her thing.. Guess if the sleeping bag is good enough for the german army, I can live with it. Comfort limit -15 degrees celcius. Extreem -30

It looks like the stock was welded together before being ground.
@Bushradical6 жыл бұрын
Doesn't look right does it, LOL
@LCO2136 жыл бұрын
yeah, the side @1:09 shows a clear patina differential along the welding line. I used to machine and restore camshafts for cars, and we would sometimes spray weld parts and machine them back down to specs. The strength of the weld was never an issue, but it often left obvious visual cues like this. It looks like a peculiar lamination line, but the patina is a dead giveaway. A knife should never be welded together though...something is not right here.

I've had a mora knife that had an imperfection like what you've dealt with in your condor, only mine had the imperfection closer to the tip of the blade. It was an $11 knife so I put a beating on it the way you did and it held up--didn't break and it's as sharp as it's ever been.

That's a knife that should be sent back to Condor. That said, anyone who beats a knife with a club deserves a broken knife, and should never again be allowed to own anything more than a butter knife.

gotta say...have been buying on eBay for quite some time now. I have discovered that one must-must-read the description very carefully. I had 2 disputes over items, and eBay jumped in like gangbusters to fix it, because the sellers improperly described the items & in the second case , omitted some info. In my case, going on 8 years now--they have been good. Lately though, they have become much like a chinese retail store. Read the fine print & buy with confidence.
