I just noticed for the first time (7 full runthroughs) that Hank knew about the shoplifting and asked for “something stronger” because of Marie’s habit. This in turn led to the dialogue between Walt and Hank which might not have happened otherwise

The writing in this show is so good. It is so satisfying to watch because setups and pay-offs work very well. And the characters are just great.

This wasn't originally supposed to be the end of S1. My memory is a bit hazy but the short version is that there was some sort of writers strike (or some sort of strike in the TV industry) when BB first aired and it cut short the first season. You'll notice that S2 E1 picks right up where this left off and that is because it was really supposed to be S1 E8

Breaking Bad is one of the only truly great shows that isn't an HBO production. For the future, I'd recommend The 1st season of True Detective. It's an anthology, so you can and should skip seasons 2-4 because they are not great and unrelated to season 1. But season 1 may be the greatest TV show of all time. The Imdb rating for season 1 episodes is 9.2 The Wire imdb 9.3 Deadwood imdb 8.6 Rome imdb 8.7 Chernobyl imdb 9.3 John Adams imdb 8.4 The Sopranos imdb 9.2
