Great review, but Hank was definitely going through PTSD and depression after watching a bunch of officers get blown to shit right in front of him, and only escaping death from that himself due to chance. That really shook him up, and his weakness in response to it caused him to question his masculinity, which was like his primary characteristic. He literally tells his wife "Im not the man I thought I was". But in the end, Hank is the only main character who sticks 100% to his core values, and as a reward, he gets one in the head. I hated him too, but overall he was a very complex and interesting character.

The moment I really respected him was after he beats Jesse, when he refused to spin the story as self defense, opting instead to accept whatever the repercussions would be. But that goes to show you that, as he himself admits sometimes, the show's success depended on much more than his own genius. There were many things they honestly could have done way better and I choose to look at El Camino as a separate and unnecessary entity they gave the hardcore fans to have fun with if they wanted.

Hank was a depiction of PTSD. It doesn't absolve him of all his actions but many of his traumatic breaking points came as a result of Walt's criminal activities. His life was constantly at risk. He watched his coworkers get literally blown into pieces. It's easy to get frustrated by his rage but by the point in the show he's out of control he's barely sane. By the end of the show he gets his shit together and him and Marie redeem themselves in a big way. His story is almost a redemption arc.
@1000000man16 жыл бұрын
I think it started with him killing Tucco. Even though he did what he had to, It tore him apart and everyone kept calling him a hero, which made him feel worse. The Fly is my favourite for completely different reasons. It is a microcosm of the series' pivotal relationship. It also is very comtemplative episode, as the fly represents Walter's guilt over how his life is spiralling out of control,al and the hurt he had caused for everyone else, especially Jesse. With my favourite part of the episode being how at the end of the monologue, he realizes how he cannot contain the damage of his actions and says to give up on the fly and says "It's all contaminated". Meaning his he can't revert to his peacefull life and that there will even more victims of him breaking bad.

The fly thing is a metaphor, reflecting how Walt tries to "decontaminate" his situation (mostly by eliminating people who might be a threat). Then if you remember the end of the episode, there's another fly in the lab, signifying that Walt can't keep up and truly decontaminate.

I really like BCS, and watching Slippin' Jimmy work his magic is a gem, but goddamn does it drag its feet at some points. I thought Chuck's character was very interesting where I kinda hated him because he always brought Jimmy down but I could also sympathize with him based on his backstory and his mental illness (as well as Jimmy's ambiguous immorality.) I also really liked seeing Hector before his stroke, where in BrBa he was just kindof a shell of his former self and a pawn to Tuco, his cartel, and later Walt. In BCS he still had some power behind him and despite being a crazy old man, was still pretty terrifying. Besides the developments of Jimmy and Mike, I was very entertained by the show diving deeper into the operations of the Juarez Cartel and how they affected other characters.
@Yellowsnow694206 жыл бұрын
The Sopranos, the Wire, and Mad Men are all way better shows if you are going to invest 60+ hours on a tv show. Breaking Bad is just painfully repetitive...but not completely unentertaining mostly due to its subject matter, excellent performance by Cranston, good cinematography, and visual payoffs. But like many have said: Better Call Saul is a more rewarding view by the same creator of BB.

That's not that old. It's all within the 2000s.

Well he's still known for it. It's just that he's had the enormous fortune to be cast as two separate TV characters that won't be forgotten.

I’d love to see your thoughts on Better Call Saul James. Also, The series The Following starring Kevin Bacon. It was also amazing.

"The Fly" was directed by Rian Johnson, who I think really elevated that episode.
