I had a HUGE cinnamon roll today without knowing the calories of it and I didn't binge or purge! Thank you for making these videos; they've really helped me in my recovery!! ❤️ Update: Nvm I had a bit of a blip in my progress, but still! I didn't track my calories or hate myself after eating!! Food guilt is difficult to tackle, but it all comes in due time! Wishing everyone an easy, speedy recovery 🤗

the first thing i thought of when i saw you making that bagel was “woah thats a lot of calories.” it’s really crazy how much diet culture has affected the way our brains work, the way theyre wired. im still in ed recovery and its been going quite swell. thoughts like these still pop up in my head here and there. i compare the amount of food i eat to my family, friends and people around me. your videos help me understand that fuck all that bullshit. no one cares about the calories in food, what matters is its nourishing and i can enjoy it

During my recovery I tried full fat products but personally didnt like a lot of them, and I think the main thing is our intention as to Why we are eating it. I still eat some lower/light foods but I know it has nothing to do with rules/calories its because I prefer the flavour/texture. Always ask yourself honestly why you are eating a diet product especially during recovery. I never ate breakfast as I told myself I didnt like it, since recovery I eat it everyday as I realised I needed to fuel my body wether I thought I needed it or not.

You are so helpful. Its wonderful that there's a healthy voice inside the ocean of diet culture in social media where thin and athletic come together and leave the healthy and subjective behind ❤

thank you so much for all of the content you make, they’re honestly so so helpful! you’re amazing gal🩷also, if you feel comfortable answering, how did you get to the point where you can eat an adequate amount of food without gaining weight? i’m quite early on in recovery & people have said to me that once you get to your healthy/set point weight that your body will be happy & you won’t keep gaining but i honestly can’t comprehend how that could happen. i hope this is okay to ask! xx

So happy to help lovely 🩷 it did just happen naturally. I must’ve reached a place where my body was genetically supposed to be, so it stopped gaining. I eat enough to fuel myself and satisfy my cravings - I just let my body do what it needed to and it ended up here. Trust the process ❤

TW: hospital, im going to get deep into my ED story if that may disturb you please do not read this ❤️ hello there, i would just like to say thank you so much for posting the content you do, last year i was deeply engrossed in my ED, i discovered your tiktok account as well as many other ED recovery accounts. i decided i needed to recover. however i ended up slipping, i ended up hospitalized and my body was barely making it. i was told i was going to die soon if i kept doing going this way. when i got out i decided to recover and i probably couldn’t have done it without posts like these on tiktok, youtube, etc.❤

In general I love your content so no hate intended by this comment. But I thought a couple of your examples in this video were a little off. Like using a small amount of low fat crackers as an example of breaking diet culture rules, I'm sure there are plenty of diets that would recommend them as a 'healthy snack'. Also cheese and crackers as an example of not having to have protein with every meal/snack - cheese is protein, and is an example of what you might add to a carb only snack like crackers to make it more balanced with protein and carbs. Sorry if this is me just getting the wrong end of the stick, and I don't think it was at all intentional on your part, which is why I just wanted to make you aware of it.

Hi angel. Thanks for letting me know your thoughts! I had no clue how many calories were in the crackers. I didn’t think the food mattered, as the point was about not having a snack and I was showing that I eat snacks all the time - I guess maybe the example just wasn’t the best one. I also didn’t realise cheese was high in protein 😳 definitely just me not over-analysing food, which I think is a positive thing? But I understand if you know the content of the food this might not have seemed as appropriate for an anti-diet culture video. In my head it was all positive, and I apologise if this caused any harm.

Also, I think the intention behind eating a food is more important than the food itself. I view my sweet chilli snacks in the same mindset as my chocolate, or my cheese and crackers. We are all allowed to eat any food we enjoy. Recovery to me is about allowing everything 🩷 I also noted that I had the rice crackers freely, not just a couple. It also wasn’t the only snack I had that afternoon either. I just wanted to show some examples throughout different days, without overanalysing them! Hope that makes sense but I’ll try to be more conscious.

I think the term "diet culture rules" is very vague. Different diet plans have different guidelines. There really isn't a food police. There are no actual rules as such. It is a choice to follow a specific diet , for example Atkins, keto, slimming world. They would be different approaches so they will be contradictory and can't really be combined. Atkins, for example, breaks quite a few "rules" of other diets because it allows more fats and protein but is extremely restrictive on carbs. Slimming world is a moderate eating plan that allows all foods but you have to count "syns" on high calorie foods. However, I think mixing it all in "diet culture rules" is creating an imaginary authority that you have to rebel against. I got through much of my life with no diet rules whatsoever and only gained weight after having children. At this point I still do not adhere to strict rules but have lost weight with slimming world.
