That's one of the most appealing parts of watching the WNBA, for me- fun to see the ball spin on its way to the hoop! On that subject: on CC's threes, does i the ball backspin slower as it leaves her hand, then pick up speed as it reaches the height of its arc?

What if CC decides to go into coaching someday? Maybe we're getting a peek into the future
@amyk63193 күн бұрын
@@jonathanjohnston9272 Really great players usually aren't the best coaches because it is hard for them to explain things in simple enough terms or relate their knowledge to people with much less skill or experience. I always use the analogy of how someone who is proficient in advanced calculus has a horrible time explaining or teaching basic algebra because, for them, algebra is such an easy basic skill that everyone should know & understand it. The skills and talent of people who are great at something usually comes so naturally for them that it is hard for them to explain it or break it down easily for others.
@jonathanjohnston92723 күн бұрын
@@amyk6319Good analogy. I've experienced it in math both as a tutor & as a student. While largely true in sports, there have been some remarkable exceptions. They probably lean heavily on their assistant coaches to do the hands on teaching, much as Coach White was doing in this video. I have no idea if CC will ever want to coach, but I wouldn't want to bet against almost anything she sets her mind to. She seems to delight in proving her doubters wrong.😂
@amyk63193 күн бұрын
@@jonathanjohnston9272 Good point on the assts & then the great player can focus on scouting reports, game plans & in-game strategies/calls. I honestly think that is White's strength also. White's time at Vanderbilt gave me the impression player development is not her strong suit either. But her IQ makes her perfect for the WNBA where it is going to be more about tweaks & the strategy. She once said she had a book of scouting notes on CC.

I’m an old timer who still shoots around at 69. I would shoot around in the middle of the day in the Yuma, AZ. and it gets over 110-20 degrees consistently in the summer and I’d shot by myself. I hate to loose and put pressure and stress on myself to focus and ignore my feelings of discomfort. Clark needs to go all out in practice because you develop bodily habits. When the baseball team ran I a was always in front for that reason. Developing habits to win. When everyone is tired it is psychologically discouraging if your opponent is “refreshed and seemingly unaffected” like you are! Mind games. They work and Michael Jordan and Kobe did that and it intimidates your opponent when he sees that you are “unaffected” by the physical, emotional and pressure of the game. Even, when I shoot now I expect to make every shot that I shoot! Of course, realistically, I don’t, but I’m sure that if I had a different mentality I would miss a lot more. Never worry about missing but try to be aware of why you might have missed. Most of the time I know when I’m going to miss as soon as the ball leaves my fingertips. There is no substitute for repetition, coupled with your awareness of what you are doing with your whole body, not just your arm motion. You should shoot with your whole body, like a punch in boxing or throwing a ball, use even your toes. CC look very fluid when she makes her shots. I wonder if she analyses herself in the things I mentioned? There is much more and the better you understand your mechanics, the more you can do to better yourself. Prayers and best wishes to my Catholic girl.

Next, I really like the way that Coach Stephanie White focused on complementing Caitlyn Clark's skillset during the workout. Rachel, when are we going to see our 2 favourite women-in-basketball together, You interviewiing Caitlin? Caitlin Clark's footwork is phenomenal. Her ability to keep her feet under natural balance point, while moving, and then to square for a shot is at a level that I have rarely seen, epecially as she stays light and her feet aligned. She moves like a high level hurdler through the widest range of complex basketball moves. Her footwork is truly where all of it starts, whether passing or shooting, and of course she finishes with her hands connected to her head. - If CC called me, I would say "Left hand". I'd spend the ENTIRE summer focused 50% on what she has in her bag and 50% on left handed basketball. That's all. I wouldn't go hard on floaters or corner 3s or anything else. Why just the left hand? Look at the damage she did as a right dominant player. She did this even as D's completely keyed on her right dominant play. A D can't cheat to the entire court. If CC could shoot 3s equally moving L to R as she does R to L, if she could pass - long/short/bounce/lob equally L & R, and most importanly if she could drive and finish L as she can right, well it would be lights-out good-night that's-all-she wrote. She doesn't have to fully own every part of the court (like 15 footers). If she can control entire lanes both left and right, the matrix is in her hands. - Bank shots are about "understanding" spacial relations - not only intuitive spacial relations yet learn to Trust the points between the angles of a shot. It was fun to see your glamorous look before your speech. I trust that you nailed it!!

In that one jump shot routine she's working on stepping right instead of her usual left. Also, you say "she's not the most speediest of all" seems to echo the tired narrative that cuz she's white, she must not be "athletic". In truth, CC is fast. She beats people consistently with her quickness and sprint speed. She's strong, has good hops, great hand-eye coordination, a rocket arm on her passes, and a ridiculously quick release on both her shots and passes. So let's not perpetuate that myth. Her success overall is DUE in large part to her elite athleticism.

You are one of the few who speaks about the fact, used common sense and understands the need for proficiency in basics. Everything else depends on these. When you can hit from anywhere the defender can’t cheat and their job becomes so much harder. Having a favourite spot is fine but being able to take advantage of what ever is there makes you more dangerous and will open your favourite spot more often. These are concepts you understand. Lot out there just cover the sensational with lots of hope and energy to cover their actual lack of understanding. Thanks

Left & right lateral quickness with stepping fwd & backward (defensively) at high speed. She has a mid game, but typically shot deep or drove to the bucket. More mid=shots will actually make her break her own assist record b/c she'll draw people to her. I like the fellas and the one gal giving her some pushing/arms and the one-legged mid shots driving. Plus the left layup when driving on the left. I can't watch the NBA, it bores me to tears. The Clark hype last year--I had to look in and am happy I did. It got me watching ball again. The gals game can be grimey, salty, and physical. Actually, that "fire" is missing in the NBA (among other issues). She has got me noticing some others too. Good for their game right?
