I'm a history major and researched 1960s fashion in college (it's my current obsession 😅). It's so great to finally find a channel presenting fashion from a sociological lens. Thank you so much! Subscribed! ❤️

The style came from the Working class in the U.K. especially people who had left school early moving into work. The Who & The Small faces were bigger Mod bands than Beatles. Mod in the U.K. also copied the fashion of West Indian immigrants into Working class areas. Also speed was massively available so mods want comfy clothes to dance while on speed. I get that approach this from an American perspective, but Britain has 3 waves of mod & still massively influenced by mod fashion, i.e. Parka jackets worn with Fred Perry Polo Shirts, Jeans or trousers with desert boots or Clarks wallabies. Post war British teenagers had money due to full employment so it definitely wasn’t just a middle class fashion but one were very much routed in the working class having access to money, music, drugs & transport in scooters scene which went with mod fashion hence the adoption of Parka’s to wear over the top of clothes that were not the most weather resistant.

Great video! I'm a mod and I've never seen anyone nail down its origins and values as a counterculture like you did. I hope to see more uploads from you because your explanations are very thorough and respectful to those within a fashion culture

It was more late 50's early 60's, By the mid 60's most became hippies and scene pretty much died out. The Who were mods not the Beatles

what do you see on most streets or when people dress up to go out today ? shoes - desert boots (various colours), loafers, brogues (tan/leather), chelsea boots, flat girls shoes (no big heel's), various version's of bowling shoes. suits - most people go for neat, sharp styles, with thinner lapel's and rarely less than 16" bottoms. tops/shirts - fred perry's, button down shirts, tight fitting cardigans, mod motif on t-shirts, turtle neck tops, paisley pattern shirts. trousers - slim fitting, 16" leg bottoms, straight jeans (various colours), sta prest, tonic colours. ski pants for ladies. skirts - slim fitting, often short. overcoat - Parka's are everywhere as a fashion item and everywhere, harrington style jackets, flight jackets, denim jackets (various colours) body shaped styles, trench coats, military style overcoats. Mod, ska, northern soul, skinhead, punk and 1960's fashion in general have never gone away since banishing the awful late 60's hippie look and the flared loose fitting clothes of the 1970's. You had better take a look on your high streets and go to some clubs/pubs.........then give yourself a good oil rub down and jump in the oven....LOL
