Breaking Down "The Predator Awakes" | Sly 2’s THIRD Episode

So something I always thought was neat about this episode is that the title "The Predator Awakes" is that, intentionally or not, it has a double meaning. Yes, Rajan is the tiger/predator who is now taking the Cooper Gang seriously after getting blindsided before and is stepping up his spice operation, but Neyla is also the same type of tiger who after using the Cooper gang, springs her trap and nearly defeats all of them AND Carmelita at once.

Glad to not be the only one who was scared of that Bentley mission, Rajan probably just notices him and escapes but I always thought his last jump animation was him jumping at Bentley to attack him.

In the Rip Off the Ruby mission, if you make it to the end and wait for Bentley to throw the final cushion but then immediately follow him instead of depositing the ruby on the cushion, he slinks off underneath the Safe House and then fades out of existence.

There is one way to rationalize Sly and the gang going after Rajan again. They had to know roughly how many parts were salvaged, and Bently likely took some files when he took control of the electronic winch. So there probably would have been details about his operation and that he was in possession of the heart.

I also love how they tease not to let Murray get near the spice in the satellite mission which directly foreshadows Episode 4.

12:20 I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who did this. The jungle floor's already hard enough to navigate without having to figure out where all the pools are and getting to them in time. Climbing up that canopy along the edge of the map always made more sense to me. I played this game along with someone else recently (it was his first time) and he also got really frustrated doing this mission the intended way, so I told him about the canopy route. I'd be curious how many people who did this mission the intended way would think this to be one of the hardest missions in the game?

I remember as a kid, episode 3 was filled with missions I didn’t wanna do cuz they were so tough, definitely a steep difficulty spike for the game’s target audience, but as an adult it’s become one of my favorites!

I actually remember as a kid, when I would get to Episode 3, I would put in the cheat code to unlock all the episodes, which would also let you access all the Gadgets to buy in ThiefNet, then I would play thru Episode 3 with all the Gadgets bought. Especially the Paraglider, for that mission in particular, made navigation even easier lol

This level was always a pain for me to get through, especially for bottles. Everything is so high up so the bottles are blocked by the canopy and there's not a lot of easy paths. One wrong move and you're on the bottom again!

I always felt that there were two assumptions as to why sly and his group were looking for Rajah 1. Information, he knows where the rest of the claw gang could be and pinching that out of him regardless of allegiance could be useful 2. Pettiness, Rajah was established to be very vindictive during his introduction- and considering sly lost family when thieves came looking? I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted Rajah either on their side or behind bars so he couldn't maybe attack them while they were either on a mission or when they were relaxed. that's what I assume anyway.

A little piece of info for the Turret Sections of the game. If you push up or down on the right analog stick. You can zoom in or out, making precise shots on small targets WAY easier.

As a kid, the turret mission in this episode was incredible difficult for me. After watching speedruns during the last couple of years, I realized that you don't need to aim at all. As the crosshair stays locked on the dam from the get-go, you only need to fire the turret. Time the shooting as to not overheat, and the enemies don't start rapid firing until you've destroyed the dam.

Given what we learn way later in the game I am convinced that there were just a bunch of expendable loose ends in the Klaww gang given how the only real members of the group with any real world conquering ambition were Arpeggio, Neyla, and the Contessa. Arpeggio being the genius of the group only needed to get a copy of the blue prints in order to make spice on an industrial scale so that would mean Rajan has no real value to the team anymore. Members like Jacque, Dimitri and Rajan are all profit motivated and dont really care about expanding into anything past the criminal underworld vs Neyla and Arpeggio who want to literally take over the world and rule as benevolent dictators.
