Breaking in the 2024 MT 09, Part 1

I have since been informed that, the light and settings I'm referencing are actually for shift notifications. They have nothing to do with the quick shifter. Sorry for the confusion.
Got my MT09 yesterday, FINALLY! Breaking it in still but got nearly 50 miles today.

Thanks for that very unknown info that NOBODY has mentioned before in these 2024 MT-09 video about being able to set the quickshifter to different RPMs. That's amazing to know. Great job mate. Thanks and RIDE SAFE

unknown? Because its incorrect! You DON'T set the QS. You just set a light to flash, nothing more. And btw, that option was already on the previous model!!

Yeah sorry for the confusion. Turns out it's an indicator light, not a quick shifter notification.

Yea and quickshifter are only for shifting up my guy 😂 gotta clutch to shift down

@@dannyperez2465 Nope, this model(gen4) AND previous model(gen3) do have a blipper for clutchless down shifting.

@dannyperez2465 Not for the gen 4. It allows for shifting up and down. Even has two settings for allowing it only for deceleration or both acceleration and deceleration.

Congrats on the new bike. I love the purr of that engine even at standstill. Also good color choice. I'm not usually a fan of black bikes but for some reason it's the best choice on the new MT09. Looks awesome.

Thanks. I agree, usually I stay away from black but Yamaha did a good job using angles to alter the appearance. Making it look like different shades (to my eyes), goes nicely with the frame as well. I would have went with blue but I don't like that the front fairing is a darker blue than the rest of the bike.

does the bike has RPM limiter for pre 1k miles? so you dont acidentally damage your bike?

Not that I've noticed but I've also only gone up to 6k'ish RPMs. I'm too much of a softy to go higher than that right now. I haven't heard anyone else mention a limiter for the break in period, so I don't think it has one outside of the normal red line limiter.

There is no limiter but, in the user manual on page 8-1 it says for the first 1000 kilometers to keep the rpms not higher than 5300. Between 1000 and 1600 kilometers keep it lower than 6300 rpms and over 1600 rev as you wish(under redline obviously). Hope this helps.

@@Izmolio1 QS operates between FIXED revs. (above 2000 and sufficiently away from red zone)

@@Izmolio1 It is a shift indicator. Not necessarily for the QS. You are right though, you can set it to whatever min and max you want. Mine is set for about 4300 to 5300 from factory. I assume this was set low for the run-in period. Once my 2024 MT09 is run in I will increase it.

@@Izmolio1 If you read the manual, I am pretty sure it states that you can ride the motorcycle like "normally", except that you should not have it in "higher" RPMs for "long" periods. So if you wish to do a quick pull, the bike will be totally fine. This has even been debunked on MC Garage.

Quickshifters dont work well in very low and high rpm, and using it makes uncomfortable jerks and possibly increases wear and tear on the gears. Better use the clutch there. Also use the clutch when going from first to srcond and vice versa no matter the rpm.

Thanks, I'm going to mention the same thing about 1st-2nd gear in my next video. I noticed it shifts pretty hard between those two, probably due to neutral (again I'm no mechanic).

When I was buying my bike the guy explaining all the functionalities of it, even told me its better not to use the quick shifter at all while breaking in the engine.
