A little FYI for you: There is a couple of points during the Mass when the Priest and those assisting him kneel down at/behind the Altar; it happens during the middle of the Mass, when you see the vessels (the Chalis and Patten [they hold the bread and wine before during and after the consecration and Transubstantiation]), just before The Eucharist/Communion is distributed to those in a state of grace go up to receive communion.

The reason there would be security at the altar is because loons can sneak weapons in before service and already be inside the church way past the entrances and their targets often would be clergy especially in the past but the real question is why isn’t there security at both the entrances/exits and the altar?
