I just put our church safety team through this type of training about a month ago. Even though we are prepared, we are still behind the power curve as we don't know what a person is planning. A great point that I hadn't thought of before though - what does a situation like this do in affecting the church members? Something to ponder on. Thank God for his miracles. Thank you for sharing this.

I am a pastor, and an Army vet, I am currently only doing guest sermons, while waiting for God to show me which church he wants me at, but I carry every time I preach. I am the one facing the entrance, and the first one to see a potential threat, and I am highly trained to react effectively. The shepherd sometimes has to protect the flock by shooting the predators, David was able to take out goliath, because he had real world experience with his sling as a shepherd.

I recently went to our Pastor to talk to her about this very thing! It’s a new church for us (our old church closed it’s doors) & she told me what plan they had in place. I told her to count me in on the plan if so needed. You’re so right that people think “It’ll never happen here.”, until it does!

@@amyamyamy777 this comes from the truth of God’s word. “But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, 1 Tim 2:12 And in the next chapter it lists the qualifications for being and elder/pastor. One of those being the husband of one wife.

Thanks for this recent news item. It really drives home the gravity of the issue of church security and how none of us should be complacent about it. Just last Sunday we had a situation that involved some erratic behavior by an individual who at one point preceded to handcuff himself during the sermon near the front row. Our team members were alerted and we discreetly positioned ourselves to observe and assess whether to be concerned for that person or others. I went and sat near the front between said person and the speaker. Our senior pastor picked up on what was going on (he was not preaching today) and at an appropriate moment was able to engage and was able to lead the person outside of the service where he could minister to him. While it did not turn out to be a threat or dangerous situation, a few individuals later came up and thanked me (us) for being present and alert to something that made some people fearful and concerned. Sometimes just our presence as a security team is helpful to others knowing help is near by for the unexpected (medical, safety, security).

Thanks Joe for your ongoing insight and comments. You are spot-on with your analysis. I share your links when pertinent to our church safety team. Our mission is all things safety to help keep an environment where people can gather without fear. We do practice many of the safety techniques you mention - such as patrolling hallways and parking lots, centralizing entrance, monitoring worship with members closer to the pastor when speaking, as well as members at the rear of the worship. We have conducted some training but, like other places, many don't attend. We have medical members assigned to our team who are becoming more organized to help with medical emergencies too. We wear name badges so people can identify us as part of the safety team and members have expressed their appreciation. I do want to plan more in-depth though with a key team, using many of your videos. Thanks for your timely work. May God continue to bless your efforts and each of our churches.

What extra training would you recommend in regards to mental health training? (I've already completed the Sheepdog Training)

He smiled before the attack and made a comment after the attempted attack showing that he was aware of what he was doing and not mentally incompetent. It is beyond time that law enforcement officials at all levels investigate the attacks on Christians for any money trails because there must be a motive such as money being paid for such attacks and it's more than just hate. Also it is crucial to be prepared because you are your best first responder. Keep in mind that those that commit crimes or coached by lawyers and no to lie and make up such statements that he was hearing things etcetera because it will play into policies that fail Public Safety like bail reform and recidivism

lesson... i understand blurring the pew-pew to avoid YT bot police.. but lets blur and beep the name of the perp as well..even if its mental health issue... no need to give future 2A perps any reason to imagine notoriety. Are you getting FBI bulletins thru your police contacts that the rest of us dont get.. how much official bulletins can you share? Thanks.

,Not sick mental sickness, hes a liar, to get out of trouble, pastor should have seen red flags, taught by you and others. Poor security awareness, training. Complacency at its worst .

i think that there's more to the story? how is he connected to the church? connected to the pastor? location of the church in relation to the deceased dad? did he live with his dad?

Here's what we need to talk about. His congregation didn't come to his aid. Thankfully God and the Deacon were there. The rest cowarded out and abandoned their pastor. He deserves a better church to lead.

Jesus always addressed people which some call metal health issues. He knew what it was, demonic. And He cast them. He looked at sickness the same way and healed them. And so do I..

Yes, agree too many members and Bishops,State Presidents in Idaho area of LDS say the same thing. Not at our Wards it will be at others Religion's and or Jewish Churches.05/05/2024 Refuse to set-up Security Teams with our EMT.Retired and former Vets LEO.Even many with current Enhanced CCW with Idaho.😪
