A big difference between Quest 2 and Quest 3 is that the Quest 3 is a 18-watt device. when using the official META cable IF your connected device does not pipe out 2A at 9V then you would be short of the 18-watt target (3A at 5V gives you 15 watts & the official cable is rated for 3A max). being short of the 18-watt the windows protocol might be attempting to renegotiate a higher wattage connecting thus cause this behavior of disconnecting. The protocol would attempt to switch the USB-C line voltage to 9V and drop the amperage to 2A thus rendering 18 watts of power. the official META cable is ratted at 3A with a 5Gbps speed (USB 3.2 Gen 1 Signaling 5 Gbps standard). also possible ... IF your hardware is higher than USB 3.2 Gen 1 then it might be trying to connect at higher than 5 Gbps and then throttle-down to a slower speed; this can also cause connection havoc. I don't have a PC capable of running VR software so I am unable to validate this is the cause; however, most likely this IS the lines of what the issue is and META might be able to patch a software Issue resolve within the META QUEST OS.

Can validate that I can connect to USB 3.2 gen 2 (type c), however it cannot deliver 18W power and the headset drains while in use. All my USB 3.2 gen 1 are type A so cant try it. Highly doubt it can deliver 18w if gen 2 can't. Curiously I have a 3.2 gen 2x2 for usb hubs and tried it for more power but nah, doesnt work that way. So the headset cannot be used for more than maybe 4 or 5 hrs while using Link.

@@hadroncollider17 Using a 24Pin Type-C 3.1 compliant Male to Female pass-through test circuit board and my 4 channel oscilloscope along with many different USB-C power blocks I did confirm that the Quest 3 will peek at 18 watts by sending the power supply request to jack up the voltage to 9 volts; thus allowing enough amperage to peek at 18 watts. Surprisingly when I enable 120 hz in dev-mode and play Rec-Room wile injecting the max 18 watts the headset steadily; however slowly; deplete the headset battery. At the moment I only have 18 watt power bricks on hand; however, I DO have a 65 watt Lenovo USB-C power supply that I put into storage when the laptop it came with got stolen from me. Will dig it out and do some more test as this 65 watt power supply also supports 9V@2A, 15V@3A, and 20V@3.25A ... I want to try it along with the KKCOBVR A2 Link Cable Adapter (this adapter allows you to inject power into the desired unit from a power supply or battery wile also connecting to a PC at high speed).

Oculus Link is broken for me too. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I would say its more common to not work. Airlink is more consistent but i get massive stutters. Good thing is that Virtual desktop works flawlessly and looks a lot better than Link and Airlink. and I have basically switched over to that at this point. I have a very nice wifi 6e router and can max the bitrate without any stutters at all. It looks great. Just got a USB PD power bank too so the quest 3 does not drain at all even when using 120hz.

Been having problems downloading data to my Quest 3 from PC via both the official meta link cable and another cable that always worked with the Q2. On the Q3 it registers each cable when i plug it in, then I click in the headset to allow data to be transferred, works fine initially but a few seconds later the link is broken and the Q3 again asks if I want to allow data to be transferred. It becomes an endless loop. Any ideas?

I had a quest 2 and it worked perfectly fine with my pc but my quest 3 doesn’t work on it with any cable and I have 3 different cables, 2 are the original quest cables. None will get my Quest to pop up in the file explorer.

I had issue with the link cable not working on Quest 3. I was able to get it to connect EVERY TIME if you plug it into the headset upside down! It sticks way out in front of the headset and no way to attach the cord anti strain velcro but it connects every time!

Anyone else getting windows error message "Unable to recognise USB device" and the specific error in device manager is Port Reset Failed. I found sometimes it won't error, if I plug the cable in upside down (so plug sticks out infront). This is the official link cable btw, so very disappointed with the quality (lack of) of the quest 3.

Yep I can confirm I have been using VD since the Quest 3 launched and was very happy. But then saw on KZbin that the quality will probably be better with an official link cable and I can say after spending 4 hours of my evening trying to get it to work smoothly I gave up and ended up back to using Virtual Desktop because it just works and the video quality was probably better than what I was getting through the link cable. So once again Meta have dropped the ball when it comes to a physical connection. Thank god for Virtual Desktop 🙏🏻

Just got the quest 3. No dice on using the link cable. Fails at the exact spot you mentioned where it seems to fail to connect properly. Works fine for Quest 2. Not happy.

Had issues with the link cable on my AMD PC not my Intel PC. I use virtual link which is working flawlessly. Usb c port issues are common with Quest headsets.

I have the AMVR link cable 16ft with the power adapter. Worked great with the quest 2 and is working with the quest 3 . I had problem at first to connect to the computer. I had to connect to Air link first and then connect to quest link for the computer to be found. Now the only problem I have is that the cable do not recharging the quest 3 fast enough. On the quest 2, I was able to keep a steady battery level but the quest 3 battery will drain anyway. I tested the cable now and the quest link is working perfectly.

Agree, since it randomly works , especially when power off ./ on headset a few times, the speeds seem to work better. Example, I just now tried Meta Cable , with Quest turned off(not complete shutdown) and turned back on the bandwidth went from 2.1 , turn back on to 2.4 Gbps. Gives me hope that it's on the headset and can be fixed/increased via software

Yes the link is having lots of problems I been trying to connect to my quest 3 so it says connect but when I click on enable it opens 3 dots the hole thing crashes then my quest light goes off but doesn’t stay orange

I had this problem with my old system when I got my quest 2. I had to buy a dedicated usb c card in the end. The pc usb already there wasn’t working as usb c

So this is day 3 with my QUEST 3 and I played PCVR games and suddenly my USB PC doesn't recognize my Quest. I tries different PC and cant connect. It shows charging but no communication at all. I did factory reset 2 times now. I think I can return it to shop and get another one. So sad I really enjoyed playing with it. To note: I used those expensive INIU link 5m USB3 cable where you connect additional power to it. I still can connect to pc via wireless but USB is dead.... WHYY 😪😪😪😪😪😪

I did it. It works again. So you need to reset headset. Then in mobile app turn on developers mode. Not sure why but my oculus on PC recognise headset and works again. Thanks God

Restart ur quest with the cable already plugged in first dont plug in after u reboot the device - if don’t work then try unplugging then plugging back in again - usually does the trick for me

@@xressentials So I left VR plugged in to PC to download some games overnight. To my surprise last game installed was long ago because download stopped at night???! So again my Quest3 glitched. After that my PC won't recognise Quest USB3. So I did what you said. I restarted headset with wire plugged in. Also toggled developer mode on my phone. And it worked. 💪 Yeeesss! Thanks my man. I wish i knew this trick yesterday before wiping out all my data 😅

My link cable worked great on my quest 2. It worked great on my quest three until about seven days ago. Now, everything starts up fine but about 3 seconds into gameplay it disconnects. I’ve tried everything. I even bought a new $80 Link Cable. Don’t know why this suddenly started happening.

Also often have link problems. First thought it was the cable, and bought a second. But it changed nothing. connect, disconnect.... After the third or fourth time, it then works. Very annoying. Hope a software update will fix this.

I also still have issues with my quest 3 link connection. It keeps disconnecting after a minute every time. I also tried an other link cable, but no success either. I have no idea what the reason for this problem is. Thats really annouing. Also I have a slow wifi so VD doesn´t work for me...

theres a theory that theres something built into the headset that disconnects any 3rd party cable it detects so that it forces u into buying metas official cable. idk how true this is but any 3rd party cable i use it always freezes after 1 minute then boots me back to the quest home, but it never does it with a usb 2.0 link cable. only 3.0

On my old motherboard, I have a few USB 3.0 and a few 2.0. I got a longass 3.2 gen 2 cable, thinking that the best would obviously work. Well no it doesn't, not on any of the 3.0 ports. It however does, on any of the 2.0 ports. I have a short cable that came with an 8bitDo controller, which I believe to be USB 2 (well the Quest says it's linked through USB 2), that one works too, plugged to a 3.0 port. Can't even try the cable that comes with the Quest 3, as it's USB C to C :( So, for me 3.0 just doesn't work, other than for charging.

Well, I've got 3 cables off Amazon and all 3 claim to be quest 3 compatible. 2 of those cables worked with my quest 2 so I have a hard time believing it's the cable. Either it's USB 3 compliant or it's not. Also If I connect with a USB 2 cable it connects although with degraded performance. Also I have a powered hub. No difference.

I found a fix with mine so what I did was factory reset the headset and uninstall the hole thing on desktop the oculus app and files then go into the power the remove all the power saving on USB and disable that should FIX it!

How can you use usb audio if you already are using the port with either a link cable or external battery. Do you need to use some type of y splitter cable?

Wait till the link cables start working.... It uses 40% GPU on a 3090 RTX just from running link ALONE. That only leaves you with 60% headroom for whatever game you're playing. Best solution right now is ditch the cable and use virtual desktop from the quest app with the vd streamer app on your desktop. Runs perfect every time wirelessly. When I run half life Alyx using link I get a warning that my GPU ulVram is low and my settings are too high. Using Virtual Desktop wirelessly there's no warning and the game is smooth and gorgeous.

Yes I was having issues connecting at first. I solved the issue by going into settings and in beta section, restart oculus software. It worked after that

Always get connection issue when I switch from air link to cable link... Inside the quest 3 it can't find the PC.... simple solution.... You MUST re-click on the PC you want to connect to, it doesn't look like an active button but it is, works flawless for me

this is not good for a caual user quest 3 needs to be plug and play this has to be fixed in the next ver.. quest(4) .. etc ... i have had a similar problem in my rift s 1port (usb 3.0) on my pc did not work , but another powered charging (usb 3.1) port did work so this is a , power , or cable issue 🤔 quest 3 needs more power than quest 2 if you not using a good quality cable you may have power issues ,, also unpluging and pluging the same cable for years can cause the connection to "degrade" at the port or cable end
