Main reason I bought Firesticks were for their sideload option lol! I think this will be a huge financial mistake. Their Firestick sales will plummet without sideload availability. I'll still use my current Firesticks until they are out of date, but after that I may look elsewhere. I'm sure another company will pick up on Amazon's mistake, and capitalize on having their own Android OS for sideloading. Firesticks are still very useful without sideloading. They have plenty of free apps and content, but they have Ads/Adverts which are a little annoying in the middle of a scene lol 😂! Anyways thank you for the updates as usual Tanya! As a guess. The old Hudl machines weren't updated . They were just abandoned and made obsolete. So Amazon will probably do the same by bringing in a new model to raise revenue. So anyone savey enough to break into and/or rewrite the control system would be much needed.

I would assume the old devices cannot run the new OS, so owners will only have to make a decision when their FireTV sticks give out. I've got two FireTV sticks atm and will probably move away from Amazon and use a SBC (RPi 5 a strong possibility) running Kodi and the like.

While I loved the Fire TV Sticks and have a number of them on all of our TVs, this sort of interference is exactly why I migrated over to Wally World's Onn TV box over a year ago. It works just as well, if not better, than the Fire TV does and there does not seem to be any interference to the owner of the device. Hopefully there will be someone that will break through this crazy action taken by the people at FireTV and return our ability to enjoy the FireTV the way we all want.

Hello, thank you for your informative videos! I have a Pioneer Fire TV running Fire OS 7, and I connect to it wirelessly from my PC with ADB App Control. I am able to disable apps on the Fire TV and I have most of the ads blocked on the home screen and on most of the apps. Also, I have a Roku TV with developer options enabled and I can sideload apps using the Roku web plug-in. If you hear something going to happen with the new OS forced update let me know and I will disable the System Updates and the Appstore on Fire TV.

The ONLY reason I choose a fire stick over the dozens of generic and more powerful android boxes, is because of their small size, no need for a power plug, they stay tucked behind the tv, and has a really nice Bluetooth remote, and has a nice voice input feature... Most of these boxes come with a much more featured but clunky IR remote and the interface is not remote based, the device thinks it is a phone, so many apps require a horrible cursor mode to simulate touchscreen. If the case were that amazon devices didn't run apks, I'd at a minimum consider Roku for recommendation to novice users, and I'd be using a standard more powerful android box and be looking for a bt remote with a mic on it.

What I don't understand is why someone or some company doesnt just come out with a blank stick. No subscriptions no force adds, no link to Google, Apple or Amazon. Just a stick with a nice processor, decent memory and the android system installed. It would be cheap to make. And you still could turn a profit. And that's it nothing to jam down ppl throat, no Steve jobs super ego syndrome of this is my device and you can't put anything into it but what I say. Just a nice stick.
