@gpaje Toyota, the pioneer of manufacturing processes that are considered the gold standard in production philosophies in companies all around the world, failed at its most basic principal of 5S? I'm going to continue to doubt that conclusion or the company narrative. All machined parts will have some level of debris left over and that is usually mitigated by either a break-in period (small engines, very short first oil change interval) or captured through a standard oil filter or magnetic pickups. It has to be a design flaw that allows the debris to circulate and create problems in other areas of the engine.

A few things. It is the honorable thing to do from Toyota. Now some worries. If you go to a Toyota dealer (My wife has a RAV4 hybrid) so I take it in. I don't know how many techs are at a typical dealership depending on size but not all the techs would do this type of work. Second, I read where to replace the engine on this truck they remove the body. If this is true what are the chances you get a truck back absent rattles and squeaks even if you have the best tech in the world. Let's say they can do it without the body off, you still have to connect, disconnect turbos, connectors, A/C units, etc., etc. A complicated task. This would have been my solution if I was Toyota. Offer to buy the truck back for a new '24 similar model at 0% financing or a cash buyout if the owner prefers that. Owners who want to keep their trucks but the truck is running fine, give them a 150-,000 mile no cost warranty provided all service records are kept and no deductibles. Just my take and I bet my solution is cheaper than replacing 100,000 engines and as an owner I would prefer this. This solution puts me in the driver's seat so to speak. If Toyota does a buyout they at their option can replace the engine and have the dealer resell it as used and let the dealer pay a fair price to Toyota for the truck.

I don’t understand the question. It’s too obvious to me that the smart thing is to replace the ticking time bomb. Everyone is gonna know that the situation about these so I don’t think secondary markets would suffer at all for a replaced engine. The contrary would probably be true, if you knew you were buying this truck used and the engine wasn’t replaced would you still take the chance? Not me.

some 22-23 lc300s are effected here in the middle east but not all of them. I own one myself and my vin is not included in the recall atleast as of today. some customers are not happy about replacing their engines that are affected but has not failed yet, which I honestly dont understand. If I'm in the market for one of the affected vhicles I would automatically check if the recall is done or not, and if not I wouldn't buy it. and as far as the truck being down for few days... oh will... accidents are a thing too..

Let's stop white washing Toyota. They had absolutely no intentions in fixing these; otherwise, the problem would've been caught when this engine debuted back in 2018 as there have been cases of LS500's with the exact same issue DATING to 2018. It took them 6 years to acknowledge there was an issue, 6 YEARS! And only because the NHTSA decided to step in.

I would totally take a brand new manufacture built engine, that I’m confident will come with a fresh warranty on that new engine. I would also take my time getting in line as this is going to take some time, mean while I’d be driving the truck all the time racking up miles on the old engine. As far as resale, if I was looking for a used Toyota, it take the truck with the replaced engine over a truck with the original engine as the truck with the replaced engine will have less milage on it. No brainer!

I have a 23 non hybrid tundra and I’m skeptical of the fix. First off it just says new engine. Is that a FULL new engine? New short block? It’s very vague, not enough details. Second off no matter the fix the cab has to be pulled and the engine has to be rebuilt/replaced. Every single one of these trucks will lose the factory spec and their truck will be forever a rebuilt. I don’t know if it’s possible and it would cost so much more but I would have more faith if the trucks were put back on the assembly line and properly factory rebuilt. To me this would be best case scenario.

If I had one of these trucks, I'd be glad to have the engine replaced.
