Joshua De La Victoria has a similar approach to breaking out of boxes It’s a really good concept to see more of the fretboard at once without straining the brain too much Good stuff, as always

@@DomLapointe Thanks Dom! Right! I did see that one. That was a great lesson video. It has been used quite a bit over the past few years by Instagram guitarists as a solo texture. Very cool sound but maybe got a little overdone. But I definitely want to use it as a jumping off point for total fretboard awareness. Fingers crossed it helps with that!

@@eightmetalstrings What I like about what you said though is the “say the notes/intervals as you practice these super scales Otherwise it just becomes a bigger box and it solves nothing

@@DomLapointe yup, it's 90% conceptual/mental practice. Definitely don't want to have the fingers get so used to these positions that they can go on their own.

In my experience, the biggest limiting factor I face is starting 8-string with no prior guitar experience. I have been playing drums since the start of 2020. I bought an 8-string around June of 2023, but I never really took learning it seriously until the summer of this year. I had realized that I spent a year owning my 8-string without taking the time and respect to learn the damn thing. I honestly want to start some guitar lessons, but I am not sure a teacher will take me seriously if they find out I want to learn 8 with no prior guitar knowledge. Does that make me a stubborn fool? I don't know, I have fun with where I am and enjoy learning. It's a shame that most 8-string videos on KZbin assume that the learner already knows guitar.

@@abdelilhmanflores good for you for trying to jump right in. Yes, there are lots of videos for 6-string and a few intermediate to advanced videos for 8-string, but not much to start you off on 8. From what I have learned so far, most things you deal with on beginner guitar are not going to be different between 6 or 8. You may have to do a little work to think of the notes on the lower strings differently, but really, the early learning is the same. I would definitely try integrating some early 6 lessons to the 8-string to practice some fundamentals. All you have to do is add a couple strings. I'm hoping one day to contribute some total beginner 8-string stuff, but it's just not at the top of my to do list right now unfortunately.

Great video and idea, as always, Thomas! There seems to be a very weird low noise floor in the video. I hope it’s only me 😅 Sounds like pink noise on a synth. With headphones it’s more subdued, through iPhone speakers it turns into white noise, much harsher. If it’s only me, no worries 😉

@@CoenBijpost I have to figure out a better noise filtering system as my laptop fan goes pretty hard when I have everything going during recording. But yes, it's a known problem so not just you 👍

@@CoenBijpost I did get a new mic set up, so that might be why. Have to figure out better positioning and editing techniques. Thanks for letting me know though. I heard it while editing but wasn't sure if it would be noticeable in the video

Can I do this with Harmonic Minor?
@eightmetalstrings2 ай бұрын
Absolutely. A couple things will change though because the scale has more notes. 1. You'll be doing 4 notes per string 2. You will end up in a slightly high position than you started 3. There will be more awkward stretches because of that augmented second, so you might need to figure out some fingering tricks like using slides. Otherwise, the concept will translate and should still help you expand your fretboard view.
