Travel is a small but important part of that overall puzzle. Start with an annual budget for socializing and travel - $15,000 per year is a figure I picked out of the sky - and see how you get on with that over time. Agree to remain open to further conversations about adjusting that figure upwards or downwards. The etf SCHD is basically an index fund of strong companies that pay out dividends. It only has an expense ratio of 0.06% and has performed well since it came about 10 or so years ago. I highly recommend people consider adding it to their portfolio. With enough time, you can use those dividends later in life to largely live off of without touching the principle.
@HildaBennet2 күн бұрын
I’m sorry if this comes across as offensive, I really don’t mean for it to be but, if you dont know how to add stocks into your portfolio, you need to learn a lot more basics before you even pick anything to invest in.
@DaliaCohen22302 күн бұрын
Dividends from the stock market encouraged me to begin investing. What matters, in my opinion, is that if you invest and make additional passive income in addition to dividends, you will be able to live off of dividends without selling. It implies that you can provide that benefit for your children, giving them a head start in life. I've invested more than “$600K” in dividend stocks through my asset manager and will continue to do so until the price falls even further.

Being an ETF this will do far less to the share price than even the tiny amount a company split affects those shares. An ETF price is all based on the underlying assets. A split and money pouring in won't change that to any significance because the prices of the underlying assets won't be affected by the (relatively) tiny new investments at the time of the split.

Why can’t you buy fractional shares?
@Sanloong7Ай бұрын
Just continue to buy the amount u want to buy. Share price in this sense doesn't matter. $10k invested means $10k invested regardless of u have 20 shares or 500 shares.

Hi Prof G, The video was a little unclear, do you suggest buying more SCHG and SCHD now BEFORE the ETF split or waiting until October 11th and buying AFTER the ETF Split?
@NolanGouveiaАй бұрын
It won’t matter much in the long term!
@nathanowens255Ай бұрын
Your content is great for those living or able to buy ETF's registered in the US. Unfortunately, those of us in the UK can't. It would be amazing if you made some content on how to find a similar ETF in the UK or Europe to SCHD, VOO or any other ETF you talk about.

So, should you invest now and have your shares split, or wait til they split and then buy as much as possible?

The only 2 stocks I own are schd and schg, just bought last week. Looking to hold for long term.

Quick Question, I have my monthly Deposit , do you recommend I buy the SCHD now or after they do the stock Split ?

So should I wait until after October 11 to buy into SCHD for the first time ?

Ironic lol. Just bought $1500 of SCHD in my HSA like an hour ago.

Same value for investors but it's more for Schwab, actually. Schwab's splits also means more potential new money but also more ETF fees (.02%,04%).

I don’t know if you mentioned this in the video but the dividends drop per share as well so if dividend was $3/share be4 split 1:3 it would be $1 after.

Prof G, What will be the dividend for SCHD after the split per share per year?
@Atrus999Ай бұрын
No one knows that but things should continue as usual with the dividend.
@kito1sanАй бұрын
@@Atrus999a guess is base on what it splitting on. On schd, will be 3 for one, so probably the stock price will be 20.33 when said and done, then might be a frenzy to buy and the price will rebound due to that.
@Dr.3ullАй бұрын
@@Atrus999Then why are the existing holders so worried. If it stays unchanged they will make more from dividend right.
@LuxlookgoodАй бұрын
Should you buy more now or wait?
@Atrus999Ай бұрын
@@Dr.3ull The shares are only being split, the price is going to stay the same relative to what you're getting. Getting a $1 dividend on 3 shares is the same as a $3 dividend for 1 share. You're still getting $3 either way. I don't understand what there is to worry about...
@chriscarlson9556Ай бұрын
Thanks for the heads up. I think this is a great move because even if you can buy a fractional share people feel better about buying one share than a third of a share.
@matthoffmann3148Ай бұрын
Is there any difference in benefit between buying before the split or after the split?
@aaronlong1587Ай бұрын
First, the fund dividend yield is decreasing from approximately 3.58% to 3.33% so my question is why? After the split will the dividend be divided by three going forward? I'm pretty sure but wanted confirmation.

I like this. With more people looking to invest in this, the share price should appreciate nicely.
