It’s taking years of healing for me and I am 73 years old

Keep at it every day brother! It's been 15-16 years for me, I'm 49 now, and there is still work to do with the Lord within my family. He's helped me tremendously, and I long for that with the rest of my family too! God love you! In Christ, Andrew

I am a recovered alcoholic and came back to Christ. Now in seminary. I can relate to very much everything that Peter was talking about. The healing takes time and I never had the tools to get on in life and meet the world head on and I just alcohol as a crutch. It's really becoming self aware and finding who you were meant to be in the eyes of God and not what the world says you are.

Part of my mother's family ended up in West Germany, some in East after the war. They don't know what happened to others. I think it's important to recognize parenting after experiencing the horrors of war.

Very true. And the soldiers and civilians in Europe who survived the war. Alcohol was a form of self medication for what today we call PTSD.

I've read three books that are related to "the father wound" in the past few months, which makes the Lord's timing on this amazing to say the least. So many men in church are disengaged and going through the motions, like my birth father used to be (and still is to a worse degree), which makes this topic of the utmost importance for our salvation and related sonships with the Lord. Thank you all, because even though Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Father have already made me aware of these things years ago, and addressed them to the best of my ability with Him, the peace and rest that's needed is still elusive because the others in my family (including the Church) still ignore and evade like Peter talked about his family doing. My father was an alcoholic too, and I became one as well, but by the grace of Jesus He freed me from that and that needs to take place for others as well (alcoholic or not). Thank you brothers! In Christ, Andrew

What 3 books were they? Thank you for the gift of your healing journey.

@@gremlingrob The only two that I would recommend are "Healing the Masculine Soul" by Gordon Dalbey and "Christian Fatherhood" by Steven Wood. However, the first one by Dalbey does occasionally use translations from the now known to be heretical Message Bible, so please be aware of that while reading it. The author doesn't use that problematic Bible all the time by any means though, and when he does most of the quotes aren't ridiculously different in truth and spirit from other (faithful) translations from what I can remember. Regardless, it's worth knowing about and being on guard for while you read. Also, if you're not familiar with the problem with the Message Bible, it's worth looking into and learning about online. I hope that helps. In Christ, Andrew
