Breaking the Pylon Limit in Terraria ( + Tutorial)

"Wait, where's the Complete Guide to Transmutation?” In order to make sure it's up-to-scratch, and so that I can fit in everything that keeps getting discovered, I'm going to need another week to work on it. I may have found a method for block de-sync that doesn’t require coins and has less door breaking. I got it to work a few times but I’m still trying to figure out how to consistently get it to work. I’ll report back and probably make a video about it when I get things figured out.

All you need to do is place two burner pylons down, rather than one, and then those can be turned into the desired Pylon. This works with up to 9(?) burner pylons, so you can basically just fill your world with universal pylons.

It's probably more accurate to say it's a server desync coupled with "the server trusts the client too much" (not enough checks server-side)

Are you able to place down a copy of the "burner pylon" in its respective biome still or does that break this?

You can! It'll function normally the next time you place it down, without affecting any of the dupes. I've tested this in a regular world, during a normal playthrough, and we just bought a new Snow pylon and placed it as usual after we were done using it as a burner.

I found one bug. It slightly less than transmutations but easier. you need a chest and any item. turn off autosave, put items into the chest, save the world. then we take the items from the chest, die and close the game (eg alt+F4). we go into the world, and there are objects both in the chest and in the inventory🎉 Bug works on both editions.

is it possible to place more than two of the same pylon? I saw that it updated the "ghost" pylon to properly being a universal pylon after you placed down the second one, but is it possible to use multiple "burner" pylons in order to get more than just one extra of a pylon down? or when you attempt to place another universal pylon it'll properly update all of the other pylons, or does placing down any pylon update every pylon on the world, because they're kinda connected?

pylons are dirtcheap to set up tho, and they are easy to replace as well. Teleporter are great with close distance while pylons are universal travel

To have two of every pylon, would I have to have 2 burner pylons setup at once? Because if one pylon always has to be used as a “burner,” wouldn’t it then not be possible to have a duplicate of every pylon? Is there a work around with the setup being different to achieve a duplicate of each pylon, or is this something that just can’t be fixed?

It's in the description that that's a limitation, and that there will always be one pylon which you can only have a single of, since there's no burner for the burner. However, immediately after posting this, people figured out that you can use _every other_ Pylon as a burner, rather than just using one burner. Say, you place 8 ghost universal pylons, and then if you place a 9th universal pylon normally, you'd then have 9 total universal pylons. Then, you could place 7 ghost forest pylons, place an 8th normally, you'd have 8 forest pylons, etc. So apparently, you can have 9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 45 pylons with this. (Or possibly infinite, I've yet to have a chance to test some of those theories.)

Same way I discovered Transmutation- having too much time to play around and test things in-between scheduled Boss progression. This was actually discovered _before_ Transmutation, since the idea of using de-syncs to do interesting things is the foundation Transmutation is built on. So, that's why this is Transmutation-adjacent, rather than using Transmutation itself.

Yo ethyriel got some building questions for ya. Does the burner pylon need to be off screen? Because what if i just want to have 2 of the same pylon, in this case 2 ice pylons. To act as just cosmetic background for my spawn. and are we only allowed just the two now?

1.) The burner can be anywhere in the world! 2.) There's actually no limit to how many "ghost" pylons you can place, before placing the real one. So, hence why it's possible to have 45 pylons (as you eventually run out of burners- 9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 45). ...but people are already theorizing about using ghost pylons as burners. So it might be possible to have _a literally infinite number of pylons_.

But what would happen if i make more then one "burner" pylon? I mean make more then one boulder thing and then place universal pylon as usual. Another question is what happens when you destroy second pylon, that you simply place? Does first still work after that? What i trying to understand can there only be two instances of same pylon or multiple? Can i cover every inch of my world in universal pylons and can i make it "as i go/play" or i should make "all at once"?

I never thought about this until people started pointing it out. I'm going to have to test this because you might be on to something. It may be possible to have infinite pylons. Maybe just two, but maybe infinite. Oh dear.

Hrrm... Two things to check. a.) Are you in multiplayer? b.) Are you on console? (We're still trying to figure out how to adapt this method to work on Console- the alternative method is very fiddly but it should work.)

You 100% can, actually! So you can get multiple universal pylons, for example. Someone got 9 universals, 8 of another, 7 of another, etc. Up to 45 pylons total.

I originally discovered Transmutation during a multiplayer playthrough, though it could only transmute chests into other types of chest then- doing stuff like obtaining Zenith early came later. This pylon bug actually came about well before modern Transmutation, and works with any desync bug- so, there's reasonable odds it survives 1.4.5. Fingers crossed!

How on earth you figured that by doing exactly this you'll have two functional universal pylons? One you just decided: "Hey, i wanna place a pylone in a boulder and a block on top of a trapdoor then replace on block with sand and place two boulders on top of each other as fast as i can and boom... Just like that" What!? Also, rip mobile players Doing that fast is impossible, specially without having the same prescision as the PC players

It's actually slightly less nonsensical than it looks- Mostly has to do with server-client desyncs, and making sure the pylon is properly supported. It's still possible on mobile- you just need to be in Multiplayer as not-the-Host, and a bit of luck that it doesn't break in the time it takes to place it.
