About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Some tips for next underwater builds in Trailmakers: 1- Make sure the rear of the creation it's aerodynamic as much as the front. The game simulates an underwater effect whose name I don't know, and long story short if you have the rear aerodinamically unoptimized, the creation is going to go way slower than it could underwater. Try it and see, 100% confirmed. 2- For the explosion I believe that tha game considers the nearest and strongest surface around you, in that case the bottom of the sea, and bounces you back in the opposite direction that is in fact upwards. It would be interesting to see what happens if you try the same thing from in between the bottom of the sea, and the sea level. Nice video btw, It's been 2 weeks I'm the f*****g quarantine, thank you for keeping me company! Can't wait for the next multiplayer ep. Have fun Scrapman :D

Because the impulse from the cannons occurred entirely at the launch time, the water and the air could only act to slow the cockpit down. Despite having lower drag in the air transitioning from water to air would still slow the vehicle down because the net force is all losses at that point. It is therefore only logical that scrapman broke the sound barrier under the water first and then transitioned to air at that speed.

well the game lagged when that happened and the animation takes time to start up anyway so if we're just talking about getting up to the speed before he's out of the water then the answer is yes he did break the sound barrier before he left the water because the acceleration only happened in the explosion which he had left before he came out of the water. After that he was slowing down from drag so in order for him to get the animation his speed must have been higher than the sound barrier before he left the water
@calelsun
@calelsun 4 жыл бұрын
I think with the cannon creation what happened was when you triggered them and sent your seat flying was that the superfast forward rotation of the cockpit almost kind if paddled it's way upward or maybe it instantly bounced off the seafloor and straight up. Another possibility Is that regardless of the direction of the cannons they were so close to the ground that the force reverberated off the ground more intensely than bricks you built over the cannons that it propelled you upwards.
@humanhuman5024
@humanhuman5024 4 жыл бұрын
so the canon idea at the end of the video actually works under water you see that once the creation blows up the speed decreases hevely from there since the acceleration to a sonic boom is instant and nothing else propels it you have to break the sound barrier under water for the game to show you broke the sound barrier.

To add a bit of engineering knowledge: The problem with drag vs power is as follows: Drag is a force slowing you down, proportional to the square of your speed and a few more factors that depend on the environment, size of the vehicle and shape of the vehicle. Now, if your power delivery itself doesn't get diminishing returns like in real life, you can just add more power while keeping area and drag coefficient virtually the same, then speed is proportional to the square root of power. That means, in order to double your speed you have to quadruple your power output, which explains why you didn't see much speed increase past 500 complexity compared to before.

Actually the sound barrier underwater varies depending on temperature (4.5meter per each 1ºC) and psu (1.3 per each 1 psu). Since the "normal" temperature of water is around 20-25ºC, its a roanded plus 112,5 Mps. Disregarding PSU obviously, its just too hard to calculate, and we cant determinate the psu or ºC of the in game water. Just sharing some knowladge :D Greats vids mate! Keep up the good work!

Hypothetically it's possible. Vaporizing the water in front of a projectile, imagining a chemical reaction perhaps with a momentary vacuum can provide less resistance for the object behind it as it travels behind the reaction. Electricity, one possibility. For illustration, det cord between two points underwater puts the imagination to the focus figuring out how to propel an object within the route of the reaction of the detective cord underwater. Thinking of aerospace research, and military sources of inspiration, minimally a computer similation is possible - this could involve lesser sophisticated computer simulation software, you could source data on phosphorous and vacuum experiments to create one heck of a computer simulation just getting started and go from there building on what is most plausible.

So, the explosion caused by the cannons gives mass amounts of upwards thrust on the thrusters, now you may be thinking "why is downwards thrust in this equation", well, there is. You see, the thrust pushing down on the thrusters brings it down, but it can't go down because of the floor as if it did it would disintegrate, thus the downwards thrust becomes recoil thrust, and creating more upwards thrust, launching it out of the water but the breach was so fast that the sound was going the same speed by being emitted by the moving object, so it went faster than the speed of sound, but it was sound, thus creating a sonic boom temporarily removing sound from the area. I am a kid using my dads' google account so, if this is wrong please don't be a jerk about it.

I think that the cannons launch you upwards, because of the way explosions work in Trailmakers. When something explodes near you, regardless of the direction that explosion came from, it launches you up a little. So the game mechanic works and actually doesn't look unnatural or nonsensical, until you explode something a lot more than the game is built for.

If Trailmakers had *Supercavitation* , he would have achieved that. It's what happens when you move fast enough through a liquid to cause the forming on an "air bubble" around the moving object and drastically reducing its friction. Propellers would no longer work in that bubble, but rockets would. You can look it up on Wikipedia for more details.

The speed of sound is actually much faster in water then air. You'd need to go about 5300km/h to break the sound barrier in water.

The only speed you would be gaining would be from the cannons and breaking through the water wouldn’t technically make you go faster so the sonic boom did start in the water

1500 m/s in saltwater and 343 m/s in air. the more solid your medium is, the faster sound travels because it 'pushes' agains the substance. It's like when you had a 1 light year long stick and you push on 1 end of the stick. The time needed for the other end of the stick to move would be nearing light speed. Let's say that push is sound.. That would mean that the speed of sound nears light speed (300.000m/s) in a solid.

I have a suggestion, try using a spinning force like a wheel and engine or servo to propulse you through the air in a circle. I bet that will be a challenge to achieve... Or you could just try to achieve doing air, land and water all together at the same time.

You can try making a vehicle that can break the sound barrier from the launch of the catapult OR make a centrifuge that speeds up something to break the sound barrier.

I believe the reason you kept tilting and kind of spinning out is because on the bottom of the line of propellers, you only had 1, if you had made the 2 wide section the bottom you might have had more stability

I got a ridiculous idea, how about a car with a single engine, no thrusters, breaking the sound barrier. Probably not possible but would be nice to see
