Funny thing about what Saul said about "dealer amounts" and "cops always having their thumb on the scale" So I had to get a lawyer for something. A minor infraction. The lawyer told me a story about how he had a client busted for weed, just over the "dealer amount," and what he did was delay the trial as long as possible and then motion to have the evidence re-examined. By the time they properly re-weighed the evidence, it had dried out enough that it no longer was a "dealer amount" and got the guy down to simple possession. That's a very Saul Goodman kinda move

@WayneMercy
@WayneMercy 3 жыл бұрын
@@dlkaran what Saul meant by the thumb and scale narrative is that cops will sneakily put their thumb down on the scale and apply pressure while weighing drugs to make it record a higher number than it actually is. So for example the guy may have only had 20 grams of meth on him, but the cop pushes the scale down harder with his thumb to record 30 grams and thus it’s a more serious charge

I love this. One of my best friends was a criminal defense lawyer who I served in the Army with. We used to have great drinking sessions where he would entertain with lawyer stories. Saul Goodman reminds me so much of him. Quick witted, a hustler and wheeler-dealer, infamous around the local courts. He talked me into letting him represent me on a speeding ticket in traffic court. The first thing that he did was talk to the bailiff to get my case pulled first. Then, when I was called and he appeared, the judge started snickering. He knew he was going to be entertained. BTW, he got me off with a warning. Sadly, he passed away a couple years ago due to cancer. A big loss to the courts.

He - he covered his tracks, he got that idiot at the copy shop to lie for him. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This chicanery? He's done worse. That billboard! Are you telling me that a man just happens to fall like that? No! He orchestrated it! Jimmy! He defecated through a sunroof! And I saved him! And I shouldn't have. I took him into my own firm! What was I thinking? He'll never change. He'll never change! Ever since he was 9, always the same! Couldn't keep his hands out of the cash drawer! But not our Jimmy! Couldn't be precious Jimmy! Stealing them blind! And he gets to be a lawyer!? What a sick joke! I should've stopped him when I had the chance! And you - you have to stop him!

"Just like a butcher with his thumb on the scale." Many years ago, I lived in a small town in Brazil. And the local butcher was caught placing a magnet under the scale with his left hand while placing the meat on the scale with his right hand. He had perfected this maneuver into a seamless gesture and had been ripping off his friends and neighbors for years. That is, until he finally got caught.
