Awesome & Refreshing to see a Priest working out and the results! Never saw a Clergy in the gym. Good way to surprise others and spread the Word by Action & Example!

My parish priest had a small workout room at his old parish, in the basement. He belonged to a gym where he is now...Only it's been shut down for most of the last year.

Wonderful man. Great profile. He's yet another who doesn't wear a habit. Years ago a woman (now a nun who wears a habit) remembered hearing the news that nuns habits were being done away with. She was disturbed by it and thought " nuns are in the world to effect the world for God, but alas..... the world has instead effected them."
@stevenpatrickstone7667 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex. Have you watched the video on this channel titled "Millennials and the Church: A Conversation with Fr. Daniel Horan" ? Start it at 13:40 and you'll get a nice explanation for the habit from Br Casey and Fr Horan. Even though I don't agree with everything they say I think their viewpoint is interesting and something to think about.

Star_City_Mayor I was a first order Franciscan for a year (did not work out). They wear a 100% brown wool habit all the time, no matter what. Franciscan life is a life of penance. The habit is a penance and must not be taken off just because it becomes uncomfortable or inconvenient. Also, there was a saint that struggled with his habit. He had a vision of Jesus carrying His cross. The saint wanted to go and help our Lord, but Jesus replied that if you cannot even carry the cross of your habit, you cannot possibly carry mine. Needless to say, the saint wore the habit there on out. The story is something to that affect at least. Not to mention, the habit is blessed by a bishop, at least the community I was in. That is a tremendous amount of grace just with the habit alone. As the old saying goes, offer it up.

@avemaria47883 жыл бұрын
@@nicksteven1112 Nicholas, for a priest hearing confessions isn't just "work". It's a part of their lifestyle that they live 24/7. If someone calls with an emergency with a near death experience, that priest will show up. Confession is one of the most important parts of life! Sometimes people's scrutiny will cause them to want to confess immediately, some people can't wait.
@nicksteven11123 жыл бұрын
@@avemaria4788 IF it is an emergency, then yes, the priest should oblige. You are absolutely right that the sacraments are probably the most important aspects of our faith. But I'd fail to see how an emergency to receive the sacraments would come about when one of us meets the priest in the gym. It can always be arranged for a separate appointment. It's different if the priest receives a sick call while he's gymming and he has to stop what he's doing to rush to minister to someone who's on his/her death bed. It's quite another thing altogether when we Catholics think that receiving the Sacraments is a right and have no consideration at all for what our priests are doing, and EXPECT the priests to drop whatever they're doing just to attend to our problems which honestly can wait, and would be better ministered to when the priest in a space to minister sacramentally. We cannot and should not act entitled when it comes to the sacraments.

I am not too much younger than this friar. It is interesting for me to watch to see how someone else’s life turned out. In the 60’s, I left a Divine Word Missionary seminary after two years, only to find myself turning into something of the kind in middle age. This is how God smiles. I guess He better not laugh.
