This was fantastic to run across this video totally by accident of Br. Fred Dilger, I have known Br Fred for a long time (over 30 years now) , his past life as he mentioned in the video, involved interior design. You cannot imagine nor have any idea how talented Br. Fred is, he was in fact VERY VERY VEERRY successful with world famous clientele, made a lot of money in the day, and was always cutting edge and created glamorous projects. Religion was always a part of his being since he was raised Catholic. He chose to give that "famous" life up and devote his life to God and helping others in need. I would hope that people understand that what you see here in the short clip is just a fraction of the great individual that Br. Fred truly is. I am very happy to see Br. Fred happy and to see that he is doing well, looking well, and has not lost his great wit and sense of humor. I am lucky to have crossed paths with him back in the day.....We miss him here in Atlanta. All the best to you Br. Fred Dilger !!

Ich bin von Ihnen und Ihren Mitbrüdern/Schwestern begeistert. Wir sollten uns, wie man im deutschen sagt, eine Scheibe abschneiden. Das heißt, ein bisschen zu versuchen so wie Sie zu leben. My love for our Franciscan friars grow more each day. St Anthony has been present in my life from the time I was a child. The older I got the more I learned about him. It is refreshing to continually be reminded of the persistent love and Faith and continuity of this holy order of our Catholic faith. Pray for our Friars : )

Awesome! Thank you Br. Casey for putting together these segments and Br. Fred for making my work seem more " concrete ".I do volunteer work with the kids, aka homeless ( personally don't like using the word homeless cause we are all homeless here on earth before reaching our Fathers house ) but this particular segment touched me and reaches out to others to do this type of work. This is what I believe Francis would have wanted to see more in his followers. Nothing is more gratifying then spending time with the kids.I believe Steven Patrick Stone mentioned about wearing a habit and Br. Fred stating is could be authoritative but in my opinion Francis never wore his habit as a sign of authority.I'm in my novitiate for SFO , Seculars only wear a Tau. As a Secular doing this work or any work I wear the Franciscan crown rosary, first clip on the first decade and second clip on the seventh decade that way you can tuck it in between your front and back pockets and my cincture.The OFM habit is too clean and pressed for this work. Have spent time with the Capuchins and they wear a "work habit " which is torn, worn out and even some have residue of paint.Were I live Catholics are a minority so in my opinion I do believe the presence of the church should be recognized in some form.To the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ,Pax et Bonum

Br. Fred, it’s been 14 years since we collaborated but God had other designs for me. Although I have been absent personally, it is not to say you have been absent in my prayers. I rejoice in knowing you are still strong in faith and your commitment to community. God truly blessed you and all the lives you’ve touched. Priscilla (31st St, NYC)

Although I’ve watched many vocation videos here on You Tube and found many of them very interesting and inspiring, none more than this one with you, Brother Fred! What a down to earth, likable guy with such an interesting background before joining religious life. How fortunate that you are able to make use of your design skills while serving the Lord and your community!

Thank you for sharing! I would love to meet Br Fred one day and talk all things interior design, I enjoy interior design (the practical part eg decorating) and yet to take formal interior design courses. I have served on the parish decorating committee at my former parish and enjoyed it. I often look for opportunities to make things beautiful and organized for church and related events and its nice to see a member of the catholic clergy in this field.

Beautifully done. Br Fred is a great guy and obviously happy with his life. I'm very impressed with his dedication to his work. The only disagreement I have with him is the habit. I think a habit is extremely important to wear. If the long robe is too cumbersome for the work he does (which is understandable) , then maybe some sort of brown shirt similar in color and style to the robe, with a crucifix ... with pants of his choice. A sort of modified work habit that would identify him as a Catholic Friar. I say this because as someone who had a complete loss of Faith, one of the things that drew me to your channel was your habit. I'm sure I wouldn't have watched that first video I saw of yours if you were wearing regular clothing. Your habit captivated me ,I listened to you, and then of course your own dedication to God has kept me here. But your habit drew me here first . I hope my opinion isn't offensive to Br Fred because he deserves respect as a person, a Friar, and for his great work.
@MiguelEnriqueCVeluz7 жыл бұрын
I agree that they should be wearing the habit more. but we laymen also have to understand that the habit sometimes creates a "white coat syndrome," which may at times keep them from reaching certain people. I am nevertheless happy that he wore a brown jacket on top of his work clothes. Not sure if this was on purpose, nevertheless, it's a good thing he did.

Hi there, I enjoy these little clips. From my experience of wearing my habit around my small city some people can look at you in a somewhat quizzical way, yet generally, people are ok with it. Most tend to know that I am a Friar/ Monk, possibly because they have seen images of monks and nuns in movies etc etc. The Buddhist nuns and monks also wear there habits here in town. I like to wear my habit, it tells people what my " WORK " is. People do not tend to confuse it with the many paedophile priests that have been outed here in Australia. I get the feeling that it is more difficult for the Priest to wear his clerical collar than it is for me to wear my brown habit. People generally love to see me in my habit, so I try to wear it as often as I can. Blessings. BFM

that mass and the chapel where it was celebrated was painfully liberal. don't you think we ought to give Christ the respect he deserves at the celebration of the sacrifice on Calvary?
@BreakingInTheHabit7 жыл бұрын
While it may not be a setting that aligns with your preferences, we have to be careful judging it too quickly (especially having only seen a small portion of it in a video.) Respect can be given in many different ways, and formality does not necessarily mean respect. On the other side of the issue, we can't forget that the mass is as much a holy sacrifice as it is an intimate and comfortable meal, something that is familiar and welcoming. I find this chapel to be just as authentically Catholic as the diocesan cathedral, both highlighting an important aspect of worship.

He clearly explained why wearing the habit is not practical in his case. I personally love the fact it is not a must to have it on all the time. It is beautiful but shouldn't be a symbol of something more important? And that, the 'more important thing', Br Fred has it.
