Thanks for watching! We are raising money for Bruno and the community that helped save our boat: gofund.me/d9061851 Help us earn back our expenses from our accident by joining our Patreon: www.patreon.com/breakingwavessailing Please consider letting us know how we should have insurance in a comment below.

@BreakingWavesSailing now that you ask you shall receive... I do not recommend insurance but I do suggest instead you may seek out, "Sylvia mind method" and learn to become still and read your own intuition how to protect yourself of impending future! ... I would suggest your wife research and seek out a good, "regression hypnotherapist" to determine the past emotional trauma that debilitates her in the present and future events it can easily be desensitized and no longer plague her in future eventful situations.

normally the boat insurance has to pay for the rescue ... that's international law ... it depends on the worth of the boat ... but 25 tsd is more than fair ... otherwise your boat would be a total loss without them ...

So glad you are off the reef without rudder damage and major leaks! The boat is looking so much better five months later. The damage to the reef is localized and small, quite unlike the pervasive effects of bleaching or other area damage. Thanks for sharing the worst days of your life with us. That takes a lot of courage. ❤

@@BreakingWavesSailing The battery cable corrosion is electrolysis caused from a DC power source submerged in salt water ...... it shouldnt go much further than that but when you haul out have a good look at ALL metal that was under water at the time especially prop, prop shaft, rudder fittings, through hull fittings ..... etc You both certainly dodged a bullet there and found some genuine friends on the way

We have run aground a couple of times for different reasons. We found the best solution if acted on quickly was to extend your main halyard with long rope. Have one of your party take the halyard into your dingy and motor off pulling the halyard. This tips the boat to around 45 degrees drastically reducing your draft. You have to be careful that the side of your boat does not contact the reef or bank. Your keel will take a fair bit of abuse, your side will not. This was taught to us by coastal rescue up at Pittwater NSW and worked in multiple situations on our boats and others that we helped rescue. Glad you and the boat came through it.

Alie, you’re always amazing in these emergency situations where you’re the only one who knows enough of both languages to make the whole thing possible. another trick in a emergency and your taking in water but the bilge pumps can’t keep up turn the off engine off disconnect engine turn off engine seacock take hose off seacock and if you can find a piece of fine netting to use a filter with cable ties so you don’t suck stuff into the impeller then Place hose as close to bilge floor as possible start engine and adjust the revs so the engine has enough water and the water ingress is slowed ..adjust revs as necessary …happy sailing ⛵ uk marine engineer x coast guard

Great outcome guys, and excellent result for the village fundraising program too, which I see is now fully funded, and then some. Not sure who could have gotten on your case about the reef, you had no control on how that all happened, and you did the best you could when floating the boat afterwards. Lessons learned and new friendships made, opening up previously unknown opportunities to help this island. What name are they going to give to their new boat? Going to be interesting to see. Fair winds, from Florida 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hard to believe some people actually came at you for causing reef damage. Their grounding wasn't on purpose. It was a life and death struggle to stay alive at sea while waves pushed their boat across the reef. Only a troll would think to say something negative about a great story of survival.

Those electrical connections turning to mush. Electrolysis, Same word but not hair removal. That would be silly. Thank you for the damage assessment as I've been worried about finding out how bad it was. Lag time on the editing and upload time delays is always interesting for making comments. You are sailing again with a repaired Hull and other damage from the tow and anchor system plus everything else. Looking forward to seeing where you did the haul out and the fiberglass repairs plus maintenance work. Grind Grind again. As for the negative comments about the coral damage. You addressed this completely guess they missed that and assumed everything. Social Media comments can be brutal and most unkind at times. So glad people are helping and supporting you and the wonderful islanders that helped. Sending love to them all. Have some wine and enjoy another sunset for me please. I'm envious as all heck for the life you live. Fair winds and calm seas for you both.

The green corrosion on the electrical was there before the water got there. Why it showed up as green goop. You should thoroughly rinse the area with solvent or fresh H2O before closing up. Oops... bad fingers. Wrong button. BS 😎🤙 P.S. Ignore psycho Reef Police. You guys had zero control over that CF event. I've never lived through a storm at sea. However, I live in Central Oklahoma, USA. Ground Zero Tornado Alley, they call it. You guys had about the same chance of moving your big darlin' as a bunch of folks around Choctaw, Oklahoma had to move their houses last night when an F3 came to visit. Call 'em clueless cityfied loons, and giggle at them guys.

Yes, one thing that didnt show up in our videos was not only did the local wind bring waves to rock the boat, but there was also a long distance, very large south swell at the same time (unrelated), that was dumping loads of water over the reef into the atoll. This is actually the main reason we had enough water under the boat to pull her off (also helped the local wind waves). The tide changes are very minimal in this part of the world so it wasn't really a high tide that helped us. SO lucky how it all worked out.

Guys congratulations, you did a great job! Back to the insurance subject:There are 2 types of insurance. One is liability (not crazy expensive and mandatory) and second is comprehensive, which is good for charter boats and boats with value over half million. Most bluewater sailors use the budget boats and in this case is more logical to spend money instead of comprehensive insurance to boat safety equipment.

Yes this is becoming more common, especially in places like the South Pacific.

One thing that I haven't read much about is that, throughout that nightmare you both were/are safe! This is one amazing story that will be told for years to come and the wonderful memories of friendships formed as well as the insight into island life that most of us have no clue about has been well documented and shared. I thank you for that. Continued safe travels and kudos to all those who helped you! Truly awesome people!

That is so awesome that you got your boat off of the reef! Congratulations! I to plan on sailing with no insurance due to the price that insurance companies want and the games that they play when you file a claim. They low ball the claim and leave you with less than a replacement value with no gear. Because of the stories that I've heard, I'd rather self insure even if it's a Cyber 48 which I want and plan on getting unless the price, coverage and payout improves to a fair deal like it used to be.

Hello guys, good afternoon. Truly, I am very pleased that you have rescued Kiana and to see you again at sea and happy. The teaching served them. P.S. Mis. Ally, this advice is for you, I just want you to observe it. Regardless of each situation you find yourself in, you must remain very calm and without moving quickly, just observe, tranquility gives you enough time to think. Avoid at all costs blows and wounds that could cause MAJOR EFFECTS. You have reached a very dangerous mental breakdown situation, REGULATE your Emotions. P.S. 🎵🎶📣 KIANA FLEET.... 👏👏👏
