Rania, I am Lebanese-American. My maternal grandfather was from Beirut. He immigrated to Louisiana, USA. My mother, my two aunts, my godfather, and extended family are Lebanese-Americans. What can we, in the USA, do to help our fellow Lebanese in Lebanon?

Besides getting moral people in power and helping support worthy aid organizations or families directly...and boycotting and protesting Israels "expansion project".... I think we need to start changing the image of the Arab and Muslim world to westerners. Interviews like this are heartbreaking, moving and powerful but I also think the west is very ignorant about their culture and it has been in a negative light for many years. At one time Americans were very smitten with Arabian culture in particular, in the movies and celebrities. Sorry to say the west is trend driven but I'd like to see more influencers...in art, music, dance, good movies, documentaries, businesses. Most Americans know almost nothing about Lebanon, or any other countries in the Middle East. Maybe try to help bring positive attention.

The best a country can do to invite thousands of young people to stay in the country from all over the world. During summertime most dormitories are vacant and you can offer accomodation at least without high expenses for a few weeks. The country might offer scholarships for some to learn the language, the culture and socialize with locals. I had spent a year in Syria three and a half decade ago. Still feel that Syria is my second country/"watan".
