Anyway thanks for bringing me some happy memories of my younger years it can seem a bit hostile on that coastline what with the bush flies, some very hot days, screaming South Easterlies, lot's of Tiger snakes but it's a very special place when you get used to it.

The Torradup river used to hold some huge bream and heaps of greenlip abs off the Rocky Point at Margaret Cove.

Cheers mate! Yeah they seem to be thick in that area hey! We didn't want to take too many as I know they grow slow but at the same time we were running out of tucker so they were a nice change from Herring and Lamb chops! 😋👍

Munglinup beach is not as good as Masons Bay which is a really good camping spot we used to launch our 24ft ab boat here back in the eighties there are heaps of greenlip abs on the granite rocks at the sea entrance to the Bay at the western end mostly small but you should get a bag limit of size easily. We went down there one day to work but it was too rough out at sea so decided to look around inside the Bay itself with our underwater hydraulic go cart which was quite awkward as it was so shallow the parachute was half out of the water but I ended up finding huge dinner plate size greenlips a hundred metres or so straight out from the boat ramp on flat limestone they are probably still there as normally no one would bother to dive there. We used to get around 8 tonnes of greenlip meat weight per year between the Barren mountains and our eastern boundary Shoal Cape. A lot of greenlip abs live on flat limestone in the Hopetoun area and are very heavily camouflaged with weed West Beach in Hopetoun has heaps of them.

@@oldmate_adventures Yeah the coast road wasn't there then only the Springdale Rd and almost never any campers there was a commercial Cray fisherman who was set up at Starvation boat harbour who also fished for Garfish out of an old 16ft DeHaviland boat, he had outriggers on each side with a net that dipped into the water and a gen set running powerful lights and he just motored around the Bay catching tonnes the Garfish were huge and we're all shipped to South Australia. My Abalone business partner Paul and myself met in 1973 working as farm hands on Torradup so we have great knowledge of the area then in the early eighties we bought an area 2 Ab licence and were based in Busselton fishing the whole coastline through to Shoal Cape, yes many great memories glad you're enjoying life camping there and producing your great videos.

@@guvnermcgovern mate thats some great history there! Anyone Ab dive down that way anymore? I've only seen them at Augusta these days.

@@oldmate_adventures I live in Kaikoura NZ now but yes the divers do still fish the Hopetoun area commercial quantities of greenlip and brown lip start at Hamlin Bay to Black point then Windy Harbour a few tonne a year at Peaceful Bay half a tonne at William Bay then Doubtful Islands then the Barren mountains to Munglinup then Margaret Cove to Shoal Cape and offshore all the way to West Island from Masons Bay and the Rocky Islands offshore from Margaret Cove there are huge quantities on flat limestone east of Honeymoon Island out of Starvation Boat Harbor and the Hopetoun West Beach area also on flat limestone then in between Hopetoun and Masons Bay all the way to West Island there are granite reefs with big numbers, the biggest greenlip I ever got was in 35metres of water just off West Island but you get hassled by big sea lions there.

Great spot hey! Yeah it's just down the road from the Ranger Homestead at Stokes, don't think you could camp there being national park. Dunno🤔.
