Breast Discharge- Is it normal? Is it a sign of Breast Cancer? | Dr Anjali Kumar | Maitri

Did you know? Your breasts each contain about 20 milk ducts!
When you’re pregnant or lactating, it is normal for small amounts of milk to leak out. The leakage can start early in pregnancy, and you could continue to see milk for up to 2 or 3 years after ending nursing.
But what about nipple discharge when you are not pregnant? Is nipple discharge normal? Is nipple discharge a sign of cancer?
If you are not pregnant or nursing, the sight of your breasts leaking can be alarming. But don’t panic! Most breast discharge is normal!
However, to be on the safer side it is always best to get it checked our from your doctor as it can be the earliest presenting symptom of breast cancer.

Dear doctor, I need a consultation with you. Doctors cannot identify my breast issue. On my right breast there was a tiny scar on the nipple which was bleeding a tiny bit. Later a gland on the nipple where the scar is got bigger. Then I had discharge. Clean sticky water. That nipple turned to darker colour. Every examination turned to be okay. 10 days ago when I got my menstruation my breast hurt. It's been 10 days ago. Since my beast hurt. Doctors don't give me explanation neither a therapy just more examinations. Was told that it wasn't cancer but they don't know what that was. There isn't a lump or such. A few normal little cyst, yes. The nipple doesn't look good. It is scaling, biggle gland and a tuny scar on it.

And what about when you have abnormal discharge WHILE lactating? Specifically big drops of yellow oil and frothy milk as it exits the nipple. Mayo Clinic suspects granulomatous mastitis. I was dx'd with Lupus last November. Any recommendations?! I've had chronic mastitis for am entire year! Milk cultures so anaerobic bacteria finegoldia magna. Going back to mayo next week to request TUS ultrasound/therapeutic ultrasound.

There is no direct correlation to this. However, there are many conditions where hyperpigmentation and high prolactin levels are seen... for example PCOS . The key is thorough evaluation.

Hi mam, I am satya from Andhrapradesh.. Hyperprolactinemia can cause fertility issues, in case it is left untreated. Do take a proper treatment and get yourself investigated to rule out other causes of infertility
