I've come back to this video so many times it happened to be my most viewed video of 2023 haha. Such a lush & beautiful sound you got out of it in a short session. This video/your channel was part of my inspiration to post my first KZbin video this year. Can't wait to get a Super 6 myself. Love your stuff!

Oh man, I played the Super 6 at Perfect Circuit and really connected with it. I've never played a Jupiter 6 so I have no basis for comparison, but I thought the Super 6 sounded great. The build quality is exceptional and you can tell how much care was put into the design. One thing that KZbin cant capture well is the magic of the Binaural mode and the quality of its analog filters. Would love to have one one day. Glad you got your hands on one, great video.

I didn't really hear the binaural aspect of it myself. I have other synths that can do that (Prophet 12, Virus TI, and Poly Evolver) and found it more noticeable in those, but admittedly, I spent such little time with the UDO to have a good feel for it. When I listen to this track - it does have a very nice smoothness that I really enjoy. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks Kyle! I actually originally wrote this on the Jupiter 6... but I couldn't think of anything else to write in the less-than-one-hour I had with this and didn't want my friend waiting around while I tried to figure it out! I definitely am not an expert on the UDO interface - I don't think my cursory viewpoints will probably mean much to anyone seriously looking at the UDO. But I hope it's fun to listen to and read about anyway :D Thanks!

Thanks Alex. I think I just have a weird soft spot for stuff that's as old as me... or older. I kind of want to remake this track with the Jupiter 6 and see what people think of it, or maybe, I'll use a similar sound and make a part II... although, I am not quite as gifted as you (or many others) at coming up with excellent chords. I had stumbled across these two and that's about the extent of my knowledge of music theory. Music theory to me = 'these sound nice' My friend who was over would play all these complicated amazing chords together, it all sounded so good. I do wish I had a 10th of that ability.
@AlexBallMusic
@AlexBallMusic Жыл бұрын
@@MIDERA Would be interesting to do it again with the Jupiter, yeah. The Jupiter is super mono where the Super 6 is stereo AND binaural, so I guess that's the massive difference. Theory - "sounds good" is the way to go, always. 🙂

This is truly haunting and heart-achingly beautiful, Michael. I had finally convinced myself upon acquiring a Virus TI2 that I would be fine for a while and I wouldn't need another instrument. Holy Guacamole! I knew that the UDO Super 6 sounded great, but in your hands, it's a sonic marvel. Such gentle and comforting movement... Well done, good sir. Always a pleasure. Peace.
@MIDERA

Thanks Ted. Congrats on the TI2. You’ll be happy to know you can recreate this sound with ease on your TI2. On my TI, I managed using the supersaw waves, chorus, delay, and reverb. And it needed mo help from an external vst for reverb. You can do this. It’s a cool synth, but this particular sound isn’t too hard to do on the virus!

@@MIDERA I'm sure you're right, Michael, but hearing that sound and knowing that the Super 6 has that wonderful retro-Roland slider-laden interface is so G.A.S. inducing. Still, the $2,999 price tag will probably serve and an easy deterrent. ;) Always good to hear what you're doing and I'm glad that you got to play with it! Any chance you might be attending Knobcon this year?

I didn’t find that to be a deal breaker, but it was a little confusing. Since it’s not mine, it didn’t really bother me since I had nothing invested in it. Cool synth for sure :) just take my unbiased opinion that has no stock in it with a grain of salt. I’d check with folks who’ve owned it for much longer.

How does it compare to a Prophet 12 as an ambient/texture machine? Ease of use, sonic palette width, etc? Thanks.
@MIDERA
@MIDERA Жыл бұрын
Simple to answer actually. I don't really think the P12 is an ambient machine. I think it has really harsh oscillators and just never gets a nice pleasing/rich sound. Therefore, I can immediately say the Super 6 is superior. However, I can get a very similar sound from my System 8 and Virus TI easily, so it's worth considering alternative. The P12 is not among my favorites. I only played the Super 6 for a few hours though, but I liked what I heard.
@thomas.moerman
@thomas.moerman Жыл бұрын
@@MIDERA how interesting. It's a bit counter-intuitive that the P12 is sounds so harsh, judging by its specs it has the right ingredients for a pad machine. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Finally after many years it looks like I have found the guy who is an expert in lush airy pads.. I have to ask you. What is your fav synth for warm pads if you had to choose one? 2nd question. What board would you use (hopefully most affordable) to midi connect for warm to accompany my main keyboard playing a piano sound. Maybe I can use that to add a vibe when im on a gig. Or even for church. ... ? would love to hear your opinion and options
@MIDERA
@MIDERA Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks Soils Minor - My favorite synth for warm pads is probably the Virus TI. It still seems undefeated for pads. I have a JD800 and as good as it is, it's difficult to achieve what I want with it. One thing I will say is that it's less about the synth and more about the delays and reverbs you have attached. Eventide Space (or VST equivalent like the Blackhole or really any high quality reverb will do it justice). I would highly recommend getting those over a specific synthesizer. You could make the cheapest junk synth perform well with a great reverb. However, there is something to be said about the experience of sitting down in front of a lovely feeling piece of equipment. I'm not sure what your second question is - aren't you asking the same thing or are you asking which does a good piano sound? I don't have any good synths that do piano sounds that well. I have on my PC a vst... but I can't think of the name of it now (I could get it for you if you're interested). I hope that helps. Thanks!

@@MIDERA Thanks for being honest about the effects being more important than the synth for warm pads! Ha ha! but yeah its nice to play a well built machine such as the Virus and others for the feel of it.

You know... I quite like the look of the UDO! The Jupiter 6 has a very cool look though, to me, I think it might be my favorite synth in terms of looks, although maybe I like the Juno 6 more. While I probably know Udo Jürgens music, I don't really know who he is, so thankfully that hasn't affected my judgement of it.

@MIDERA
@MIDERA Жыл бұрын
I'm curious how you feel about the two in comparison. Online I read that the UDO is better but that the Jupiter is also better. So... basically no real consensus. I do think if my Jupiter was broken/lost/stolen, the Super 6 would be a good alternative.
@nostandingonlydancin
@nostandingonlydancin Жыл бұрын
They are two different synths. I think UDOs industrial design/styling approach, Axel Hartman design, echoes Jupiter 6 and Sh101 more than the synth architecture actually does. But they are certainly in the ball park. I was thinking of selling 4 synths recently to get a Jupiter 6 that is available near me. The Super 6 included. And I decided that the Super 6 can do some Jupiter things - but more importantly it can do it’s own things. So no Jupiter for me. Probably ever. 😢😮😊
