With the Ancient Hero's appearance and involvement in the tapestry and the events of the First Calamity, maybe the Ancient Hero was a traitor to their tribe that sided with the Hylians? I don't know how that would work, but it would certainly be an interesting story to tell.

Fighting a massive battle with tons of soldiers in a tunnel is always a bad idea. But more specifically I meant the reason Nintendo would give for the Ancient Hero to betray his own tribe. That's some pretty heavy stuff.

If I'm being completely honest, this theory doesn't have a lot of evidence. It seems to be more speculation or imagining than theorizing. Now, with that said, I did actually enjoy this theory, and it does make some sense. It would explain the creation of Calamity Ganon, the BOTW 2 trailer, the fact that some of the monsters in BOTW have the same strength-enhancing war paint that the Barbarian Armor has, why the Barbarian Armor seems to resemble a boar's skull, the sudden disappearance of the Zonai, the contradicting evidence that we know about the Zonai, and a lot more. Again, this theory could use some more evidence, but personally I think that this has a lot of potential. You could very possibly be right. Awesome job! (Also I just realized this just as I was about to post this comment, but do you remember what Impa said about how "The history of Hyrule is also the history of Calamity Ganon"?? I'm not sure if those were her *exact* words, but it was something like that. Anyways, this line always confused me, but if this theory is true then it makes a lot more sense. Calamity Ganon being created as a result of Hyrule trying to destroy the Zonai. Idk, I think it makes sense.)

I always thought by that "what we've shown you currently happens to be a little darker" when nintendo were asked whether this would be dark/darker than Majora's Mask, they meant that the small section of the story they've shown is a little darker than usual. It might be dark, but imo they never clearly said that this will nessecarily be darker than MM. I could be wrong tho

super short theory: their swirl design is the one we see with the hand on the ganon mummy; there hasnt been a new gerudo male in thousands of years bc he hasnt died yet under the castle ans the zonai went underground long ago to keep him trapped down with in a series of underground tunnels, thats why they have structures all over hyrule

I mean, the Gerudo Tribe could be described as fierce warriors (Nabooru, various guards of the Gerudo Hideout, etc...) as well as powerful magic wielders (Ganondorf, the Twinrova, Urbosa, etc...) so there's no reason to believe that the Zonai couldn't have both types of people in one tribe without actually being a confederation of multiple smaller groups.

Makes me think, if they actually kill him in BotW 2 will another male Gerudo be born? Is the rule that there can only be one male at a time? Then that means Ganondorf is still "alive". Leaves potential for a new incarnation of Ganondorf who doesn't go darkside. He sees what Hyrule and his people have become. That drive he had in before wouldn't be there. The Gerudo are prosperous. They no longer have to resort to stealing. If you could get Ganonforf seperated from Demise and have Link, Zelda and Ganondorf go against Demise. I would love it.

There were definitely 2 tribes, a savage one and an intelligent one. I think one followed "savage" power, and the other had "courage" to fight back. I bet you Ganon came to them and they thought he was a god, like the natives in mexico when the conquistadors came. After their courage won, they still couldnt kill Ganon so they seal him. This part is a little far out there but I think that the Wizzrobes are basically monsterized forms of Zonai... its alot to get into but i did some digging and maybe you might try looking into it.

I had the exact same thoughts when digging up info about the Zonai. The fact that they're mentioned as both barbaric/warlike and strong/magic wielders just didn't made sense to me as well! Amazingly well thought theory you got here! The only thing I slightly disagree with is that Ganondorf sacrificed himself willingly. His shadow on the cave (13:33) just shows too much anguish and torment for this to have been done out of his own accord in my opinon. I kind of think that the magic wielding Zonai tribe might have backfired against him, for whatever reason which we don't know. Ganon is known for his tricks and schemes, manipulating people do to his dirty work for him (e.g. Zant from TP?) to gain power and control. Who knows.. maybe the magic wielding Zonai tribe knew of this plan? and made sure to deal with him first hand.

If I was Ganondorf, one who could go through being stabbed and beaten the shit out of and still be bloodthirsty, just a few spells away from world domination, I wouldn't be bothered at all if I felt some pain with that spell. Having said that, the sealing hand does give off this "good guy" image with it's colors, so it could be what you're saying as well.

Am I the only one who thinks it’s more likely that the Zonai being called ‘savage’ is just how the Sheikah portrayed them when they stole their magic and wiped out the culture, before they themselves being later wiped out. Same as how our own history works - the winner writes it. The great warriors become ‘savage’ to justify their destruction. Any technology they’ve created is taken uncredited and ‘improved’ (though is clearly on a high level anyway with the one explicitly clear Zonai shrine complete with magic glowing orbs and controlled thunder). It feeds into the concept of cycles and reincarnation that is the basis of the series. The breaking of that reincarnation is what unbalances the triforce (trapping Ganon in an eternal but non-dead state and the symbolic separation of the Boar imagery). The balance in the peoples of Hyrule fall apart - they kill each other. The only way that can restore balance is to deal with Ganon properly, the peoples working together without war. And BOTW2 can give us any necessary exposition with Zelda now knowing the truth of her family’s role in all of this over these hundred years.

When i first played BOTW i was looking for the master sword, and i was 100% sure that it was somewhere in the Zonai ruins in Faron (even though I dint know what a Zonai was). I didn't know where the sword was, didn't even know the great Hyrule forest even existed. I thought Faron was the only forest in the game at that point lol. I spent so much time running around those ruins, and when i realized the sword wasn't there I thought it was just some random unimportant location on the map. Fast forward to now, everyone's theories are about the Zonai and their ruins lol

The Legend of Zelda Universe has the best lore in my opinion when it comes to diving into it. Honestly I don't care about massive maps, especially with the Legend of Zelda. There was something special about being reintroduced to the world of Hyrule in BOTW. Coming across places we remember being in from former games like Castletown, the same can be said for Link's character too. Imagine a Legend of Zelda game one day that's 10x or more bigger than Breath of the Wild. Gamers discovering new hidden mysteries years after the games release. I'd like to see more Labyrinths from botw in future Zelda games but in a more dungeon like setting. I want dungeons. Maybe a massive labyrinth dungeon beneath Hyrule. Like Maze Runner how it shifts, which actually that structure is more like a Labyrinth, physically and mentally. Now Breath of the Wild was incredible but it would be nice seeing more remasters of the classic games between the bigger budget games like botw. I think the best thing about The Legend of Zelda is that they can tell a similar story in many of the different games, but tell it with a different twist and it works because it's apart of the lore between the spirit of the Hero, Hylia and Ganon in whatever form he returns in. That's the endgame if there is one, maybe. Imagine a Legend of Zelda game where the bond that keeps Link, Zelda and Ganon's destiny intertwined, is broken. Finally broken, breaking the cycle. Of course another form of evil would arise eventually, but their bonds would be broken that keeps them in this dance between good and evil. Link and Zelda are old, at least spiritually if you look at it that way. The game could end and then after the credits we get a '' 20 years later, '' Link is a middle aged adult, living in a developing Hyrule. The world would be slightly changed, but it would be a set up for DLC stories. I think DLC's about an older warrior Link would be cool. Someone who's only known the warrior life, just think what life could be like for Link and Zelda in their final cycle? I don't see that happening in a long time, the constant expansion of the lore in this universe I'll never get tired of. Maybe they will finally do it in BOTW 2. People will be talking about that game for years, wondering what's next. Honestly I think BOTW 2 will set up Zelda going on journeys with Link, I don't have an opinion on that idea but I'm curious about it. Maybe Hyrule won't be governed by a monarchy and Zelda decides to leave the fate of Hyrule in the hands of the people. The future of the game could be very different.

I think that the zonai is actually the monsters in hyrule but the white versions of monsters have paint like markings just like the barbarian armor🤔🤔🤔 EDIT:Ganondorf used dark magic or Demonic powers to transform the Zonai in to monsters to get revenge but there intelligence death appealed until they get to white monster level gold monster level.

you know ill give this a couple thinks since there is the burning question of where the monsters of the world came from. if they are just corrupted zonai it would make some sense. im still personally leaning toward a gerudo faction that left the desert when he first took power and since botw takes place so long in the future of any timeline they all converge....we could be talking millions of years.

Seeing the BOTW sequel trailer for the (I lost already the count) time. I love the hiden part of the zonai. Today I saw that the hand of link grasping Zelda might be fooled by Ganon and so he will be waken back to life. Like Ganon has taken over the body of Zelda to fool Link to explore the ancient cave, wich lead to the sealed body of Ganon. Maybe Zelfda will fall or need help in some way and the moment Link will grasp the hand of Zelda... Zelda's hand changes into the one of Ganon anf he will break the seal and become to life again.

imo if this was Ganondorfs plan then it would have failed. The champions and Zelda would have been notified of the Zonai attacking the grounds and I think it is a bit of a stretch assuming that nobody would have seen Ganondorf with the 2 tribes heading into the castle and casually meandering down to the ritual location. It is my personal headcannon that ganondorf was locked away 10,000 years before the events of BOTW and the sheer amount of hate and malice that he had towards Link and Zelda poured out of his seal and that created Calamity Ganon over time and once Zelda and Link come upon the location that Ganondorf was sealed at in BOTW2 that he saw an opportunity to break his seal. He caused an earthquake with his immense force and gave the hand sealing him an option; continue the seal that will eventually make another Calamity Ganon, or save Zelda and Link and he chose to save them thus breaking the seal and releasing the most hate filled Ganondorf we have yet to see in any Zelda game yet. But I think that is just me wanting BOTW2 to be my ideal game.

I think the triforce of courage should be represented by a dog or wolf not a dragon. Because compare a dragon to a boar and owl and it's unbalanced because dragons can have courage, power and wisdom. Plus it would be a nice call back to twilight princess.
