Hi Dan, great stuff as always ! It's important to know as well just how much the back is used in proper breathing. It's not just about pushing down its about pushing out from all points of the lungs including the chest. The lungs are more present in the back than in the chest, thats why when you go to the doctors and they put a stethoscope on you more time is spent listening to the back than the chest. Professional sports people also breath in this way. Cyclists struggle to only push down because of their position on the bike so they have to utilise more of the back muscles to expand the lungs. We don't breath with the stomach we breath with the lungs and they are more complexe than we imagine. Support of the breath should also include the side abs and back muscles. Just being aware of these muscles is a good starting point.
