Concern is so underrated. He really had an illustrious career. One of the greatest closers I've ever seen. WPS in 25 of his 30 starts. Amazing!!

Both Dramatic Gold and Tabasco Cat ran admirable races considering how close they were to a very hot pace!

Some years, like in 94’, 00, 07,, 2014, and 2024 the 3 year olds dominate the Classic, and in 94’ the best finish by a non 3 year old was 6 year old Best Pal’s 5th. Concern had a busy year and never ran poorly but also rarely won which is why even by winning this race he www not going to be HoY. Dramatic Gold ran as well here as Slew O Gold did ten years earlier(according to Beyer figs). If you look his career record up in Equibase you will see he ran a huge 2nd to Wekiva Springs in the San Feranado Stakes and even better when just losing to Dare and Go in the Strub. He then lost most of his 4 and 5 year old seasons but was back at a top level in the summer and fall of 1996. When Cigar tied Citation’ s record of 16 consecutive wins at Arlington Park, the only horse that put up much resistance was Dramatic Gold, who stuck with Cigar for sixteenth of a mile in upper stretch before being left 3 and a half lengths behind when 2nd. He followed Cigar to the 96 Pacific Classic, and most now concluded it was the dual actions of the rider on Siphon pushing his mount through impossible fractions and then Corey Nakatoni hustling DG up oitside Cigar and this sandwiching him between two horses that made Cigar unusually headstrong and hard to settle. DG was done early on the far while Siphon last a quarter longer, as Cigar won his battles with both horses but lost the race when Dare and Go swooped past him late. To give people an idea of what Cigar was up against that day, next time oiut, also at Del Mar, Dramatic Gold beat stablemate Alphabet Sound to the lead in a gr2 mile stakes, and held him off to win by 0.75. Alphabet Soup a few months later would defeat Cigar among others in winning the 94 Classic. Dramatic Gold actually had a 3rd act in his career. After another lengthy injury layoff, Dramatic Gold would compete in graded sprints, and would finish close to two of the best West coast speedsters in recent history, Kona Gokd and Big Jag. Tabasco Cat had a Horse of the Year resume. He won stakes prior to the Triple Crown then rebounded from a poor Derby to run valiant 2nd in both the Preakness and Belmont. He had a rough time at Saratoga running a well beaten 3rd in the Jim Dandy, then tried to make Holy Bull pull out all stops going 10f in the Travers but was off form. But he was back near his best when winning the Kentucky Cup Classic comfortably over Best Pal. Tabasco Cat was near flawless in the 95 Classic. Timing getting the jump on Concern wihile positioning himself to assume the lead from Go For Gin and Dramatic Gold. All that was missing was the victory. The 3 year olds dominated this Classic without the crop’s best, legend art Holy Bull. i personally never fully bought the decision to withhold the Bull from the 1994 Classic. And injury prevented him the opportunity in 95.

After so many near misses, at last Concern deserved this one

concern was a great horse but couldn't get by holy bull in the woodward, on his day the Bull was one of the greatest of all time. The bull deserved to and would have won a breeders cup classic.
@DanielSong396 жыл бұрын
Holy Bull was by far the best but was not sound enough to start in the Classic. You have to be in it to win it.
@josephweil39235 жыл бұрын
@@DanielSong39 Holy Bull was plenty sound know your facts! The reasons he did not run was a) he was not breeders cup nominated so Croll would have had to cough up substantial $$ to enter him and b) one of his only two flops was in the derby at Churchill where the BC was run and he did not take the risk of another flop but keep him in training for the following years BC at Belmont (his home track)!

@@josephweil3923 pretty sure holy bull pulled up a couple months after that breeders cup at gulfstream, yeah?
@josephweil39233 жыл бұрын
@@jellis260 Yes, he pulled up in the Donn handicap the following year at Gulfstream vs Cigar as a duel began to percolate this was 5 months after the 94 BC classic!

HOLY BULL was a superior horse to cigar for many reasons. The BULL was a drug free racehorse, cigar on P E Ds Caused his infertility.

Bill Ross Hello how do you know that Cigar was on PED? Was this confirmed? I wanted Concern to beat Cigar in a race April of 1995 but Concern wasn't able to.
