josh aguirre Stopping distance will be the same or longer. Brake size doesn't equal stopping distance. The size of the brake booster, front-rear bias, tire size and type, computer control, ABS, weight, etc all effect it. Bigger brakes are for reducing brake fade on the track.
@MikailStoner Жыл бұрын
@@Nayr747 While I agree that BBK's are generally for race/track environments, having larger calipers and larger rotors give you substantially more surface area to grab on to. But realistically, tires play a much bigger role in stopping than brakes.

You dont need to upgrade brakes just because you have more power. Upgrading brakes on a street car will typically do nothing for performance. The purpose of them is to eliminate brake fade on the track where you are constantly accelerating and braking which builds up a lot of heat. Bigger brake kits do a better job of dissipating that heat which allows you to maintain steady braking performance for extended periods of hard driving. You have to be careful when upgrading your brakes because some of these performance pads dont perform as well until you get them up to temps that are nearly impossible to reach on the street unless you are driving through traffic screeching tires at every stop go and turn long enough to get your car impounded.
@kaimingleung13966 жыл бұрын
Agree on the pad materials, somewhat disagree on the caliper and rotor changes (bigger brakes). Brake upgrade kits that include switching out to a fixed caliper also have the benefit of improving how the brakes feel. There's also aesthetic value for people who want a better look. They also can reduce stopping distance IF you have good tires in summer weather - that's because there's more pad surface area for applying friction to the rotor. Yes, it is absolutely unnecessary and it's usually very expensive to do but upgraded brakes do still make a difference on the street in braking feel and, to a lesser extent, braking performance in the form of braking distance.
@khalidfathallah66196 жыл бұрын
great reply and after driving really fast in mexico recently i noticed that my car does not like to brake fom very high speeds so calipers might be in my future
@adamzebrowski14596 жыл бұрын
dont do this upgrade. these are not an engineered upgrade. further, without upgrading the rear also you will have improper break bias. this kit also requires drilling out a few holes in the hub assembly. if u dont like the outcome of this kit, you cant go back to stock or install a vehicle specific kit without replacing the hub assembly.

Ugh. I have tried watching this channel but you are the epitome of not knowing the "why." Big brakes don't improve stopping. It is in the pads. The point of big brakes is heat dissipation.
@JonnyBarajas6 жыл бұрын
thegroundhurts I dont claim to know it all, If you change your pads yes it increases braking but its limited on stock calipers. If you upgrade to a BBK you can put bigger pads leading to more surface area which means better stopping power, does it not? Heat dissipation is improved also with the rotors.
@thegroundhurts6 жыл бұрын
Have you tried a good pad on the stock brakes? Tons of people tracking these cars hard on the stock calipers with track pads. The issue is heat and wear. I get about 4 track days out of pads, maybe around 7 on some centric blanks. Ignoring the caliper and going to the bigger pad argument. If you could run a bigger pad on the same caliper as a small pad with the same clamping force from the rotor you would have less psi on the rotor. IE you are dividing the same amount of force by a larger area. I predict your kit does feel like it has improved breaking due to the high front bias over stock the ats/ctsv setup has on this car. Not good on track though. www.pointmeby.com/2016/09/24/which-big-brake-kit-bbk-should-you-get-for-the-brz-frs-gt86-86/ How are those rotors better at cooling? Have you seen an AP or Stoptech Aerorotor? The AP's are not much larger in diameter than stock, but they are much wider with much larger cooling vanes. Those don't look any wider then stock. blog.ft86speedfactory.com/wilwood-bbk-vs-ap-essex-sprint-kit-scion-fr-s/ You also mention this kit is cheaper to maintain because the pad cost is cheaper. I looked up the pads for these calipers, good pads are the same as any other kit. Just the friction rings for 2 piece rotors are not that much more then what you are paying for slotted standard rotors. Not to mention price wise you could have got an RR racing sport kit for $800 and not have had nearly the jacked up brake bias your current setup. www.rr-racing.com/RR-Racing-Front-Big-Brake-Kit-for-BRZ-and-FR-S-p/gt86fbk005.htm Do some research man! Ton's of good info on forums. You have a great attitude and enthusiasm. But for someone like me looking for more technical info its frustrating to watch.
@JonnyBarajas6 жыл бұрын
If money weren't an issue, I would buy the best there is. Price to performance is what I was looking for. BBKs do improve stopping power and efficiency in conjunction with pads, rotors, steel braided brake lines, tires, alignment, weather, and surface, etc. One without the other decreases braking efficiency. These articles aren't anything new. What setup are you currently running? Never once mentioned this setup is the end all be all, not sure why my choice of parts is a subject of conversation.
@thegroundhurts6 жыл бұрын
If you wanted price to performance you would have been slightly better off with an RR Sport kit. At just under 800 bucks I doubt it was much more then what your front setup cost. I am a Wilwood dealer at my work. i could have bought the 6R front kit and 4R rear for about $2k with pads. I chose not to because the issues with brake bias just were not worth the performance loss. I have had Hawk HP+ on stock rotors. Currently on PMU HC+800 on stock rotors, stock brake lines with high temp fluid. I have a Stoptech 328mm BBK on the way for the front. Rear will get another set of stock rotors with XP10 pads all the way around. Braking force with just pads was never much of an issue, I would start to get a little fade after 10 minutes with 245 RS3's on the car but I could still drive it hard the rest of the session. Your choice of parts is not the subject of conversation. It is the way you presented them. If you were to post this up on a forum the way you did here the trolls and "experts" there would have flamed you to oblivion.
@JonnyBarajas6 жыл бұрын
Im not an engineer so I cant say specific details just what I know from experience and im not rich enought to test out every single option to give you the best info. I just did a track day on these with four 20 minute sessions of high speed braking using only the hawk hps street pads, didnt have one bit of brake fade even when battling it out. Im not the type of guy that believes everything off the forums, I like to test it out for myself. Plus this kit was cheap at $600, I just did some add ons. Its also cheap to maintain and replace parts since they are mass produced for oem applications which I cant say the same for a BBK. I thought ahead of future cost and thats why I went this route. The track video will be up this coming weekend if you wish to see that.
