No problem. I'm sure they're probably safe 99.999% of the time, but I have seen a forum post about it happening before with a different set of Brembos. You can really tell the difference looking at the front of the caliper. Mine, with the OEM pin kit, look like this. www.carid.com/images/brembo/page/bottom/brake-kit.jpg

clutchthepearls Wow! You took the words right out of my mouth , I just did lower dust pads on my e63 amg and the pins they gave me where shorter I didn't like that , the stock ones you can see the cone of the pin stick out past the caliper for visual complete seat , another reason is the stock pins are stainless steel no stick with a magnet , the ones included where zinc coated steel equals possible rust

That looks great! I was surprised at the brake pads you chose though, performance calipers and big rotors with a ceramic pad. The ceramic pad is made for comfort and low noise but you get a lot more braking grip from a performance semi metallic brake pad like ebc yellow stuff or blue stuff if available with the calipers. Thought I'd mention this since people that watching for performance upgrade options might copy your choices and wonder why they don't notice much difference in stopping power.
@BillClay884 жыл бұрын
He specifically mentioned aesthetics. That's what 95+% of ppl have these BBKs for. How's the noise level with aggressive pads? Coz I see a lot of annoying squeaking (not sure I trust the drilled and slotted rotirs either) with ppl spending 2Gs or more. That's unacceptable.

I'm doing the same CTS-V brake swap onto my 97 Z28 with the same 4-Piston Calipers but I'll also swap in "Detroit Speed" SKF X-Tracker wheel hubs. My Camaro needs a 1 inch or 1-1/4 spacer that has it's own studs because both my 18 inch C5 Magnesium Wheels that I use for road racing and my 18 inch C6 wheels for the street were both over a inch inside the fenders. For brake rotors I'm using C6 Z06 Eradispeed rotors from Baer which might have a tiny difference in offset. If so, a few washers in between the spindle and caliper should center the brake caliper and brake pads. Using the C6 Z06 Rotors, you don't have to have the center bore enlarged verses the 5th Gen SS Camaro...

That means I’d have to recalibrate the speedometer then, too!! Then, just for a chaser, you toss in the fact that I have to get the BRAND NEW ROTORS you’re recommending specially machined to fit?!?! NOT CHEAP!!! DEFINITELY NOT EASY!!!! WTF?!?!?! Y’know what? You get a “spam flag” for sucking me in and wasting my time!
@CaptainThirdGen2 жыл бұрын
@@Psykldoc for 18in wheels, a 275/35/18 tire is same diameter as stock, and does not require speedo recalibration. For as big of an upgrade as this is over stock, it is cheap and easy. If you were familiar prices of kits like Baer, Wilwood, etc, this CTSV setup is very cheap and easy Also, the use of OEM parts is nice for future serviceability. Having the rotors machined really shouldnt be a big deal, and shouldnt be very expensive.

It’s funny that I just added a “big brake kit” to my 3rd gen 89 IROC and by big brake kit I mean the 98-02 “LS1” brakes. And dont get me wrong the LS1 brakes on a 3rd gen is a dramatic improvement over the stock 10” single piston front brakes. But what I like is that now since I have the modified spindles I only need the correct bracket for whatever brakes I want. So quick question, what power level would you recommend to justify upgrading to these brakes?, I’m currently sitting at 330 hp at the tire

The car is a T-top but I’ve added weld in s. frame connectors. Like I said I have the “ls1” brakes up front and pbr calipers out back on a BW 9 bolt with 3.27 gearing. I’m in the middle of a power train swap right now with an Lq4 running 862 heads, so 10.5:1 compression, drop in truck cam for the 6.0 so power wise on paper at least I think ill be sitting at around stock ls3 power with everything coming in early because of the truck cam (using a truck cam because this isn’t a race car and I wanted my hp / tq down low). I have the opportunity to get a set of 2012 Camaro SS brakes for practically nothing and from what I’ve read my car will be 600-800 lbs lighter than the 5th gen. So what do you think about only running the front 4 piston brakes and leaving the rear as is or should I swap the rears out as well, oh and should I bother with an adjustable proportioning valve? Marc, contact this company in the USA, their website is Kore3.com That's where most everyone who has done this conversion gets their lines from. Tobin is very knowledgeable and should be able to tell you what you need. Good luck!

Thanks for such a great solution for my 2002 Firebird Formula. I’m trying to duplicate everything you listed however I am stuck not being able to find the conversion brake lines. I have called Flynbye multiple times and sent email but no reply. The voicemail has a generic message. Do you know where else I can find the conversion brake lines?
@bhcamaro20022 жыл бұрын
Order from kore3, they're great and very responsive, no issues. Orginally ordered from Flynbye (accidentally got the wrong lines) so I tried calling and emailing them, no response. Ended up selling those to someone else for less than I paid.

What rotors did you use cts-v are 6 lugs?

I think we have the same wheels. 18x9.5" c5 replicas. Mine are +54. Is that what you have? if so, I will get the same spacers as you. Can you help me?
@bhcamaro20023 жыл бұрын
Should be fine with those spacers it depends on spoke design

So the factory brake lines will go right into the V caliper ?
@bhcamaro20022 жыл бұрын
Best to get aftermarket custom stainless, better brake feel and will last. I went with kore3 lines

Is the 4th gen master cylinder a match to these calipers and their given bore size?
@bhcamaro20023 жыл бұрын
Yes I'm running the factory master no issues, if you go bigger and change to bigger in the rear you would likely need a valve to control brake pressure front and rear

So, I've had this whole setup sitting in my basement for the past 4 years. The only thing holding me back right now is dropping 1500 bucks on new wheels and tires due to my 17 SS wheels. The other issue is whether to paint them. I also have a white fbody and currently red calipers but I really can't justify messing with the factory coating they have even though it says CTSV... Lastly, I always wanted to ask someone who did this if they felt a difference in steering or anything up front from the added weight?
@LegitStreetCars6 жыл бұрын
No difference at all in steering. Just better braking and cosmetically they really stand out. One of the best mods I've done. Alex
@alucarus66 жыл бұрын
@@LegitStreetCars Thanks for responding! Ya, idk why it's just something that always looked great to me. Do you think the silver CTSV would look goofy on a white fbody? I constantly battle with this. Lol
@LegitStreetCars6 жыл бұрын
I was debating that too since the calipers came siver like on the Cts. Here's what you can do. Run it silver at first and see if you like it. If you do you're done but if you don't it's not hard to take them back off for paint. I really like the red on my white car though, silver may blend in too much.
@alucarus66 жыл бұрын
@@LegitStreetCars Very true. Mainly, I wish they would I just don't want it to say CTSV since you'll get those douches that say, "it's not a CTSV". Lol. Oh whale. Thanks for the tips, sir! Sick car, btw.
@LegitStreetCars6 жыл бұрын
Yea I hear ya. Just paint them and be done then.

Not all ebay rotors are bad. Stopteck and brakenetic make good stuff

Not yet but that will be a video in the future. I can tell you from going to the track a couple weeks ago thats its night and day difference. Stopping from 140mph was awesome.

Just wondering, why go with the 5th gen Camaro rotor(14 in) over a ctsv rotor(14.4in)? Cost?

Best fit and won't warp pads

Will that fit underneath a 16 inch wheel or do I have to upgrade to to the 17 wheel
@LegitStreetCars7 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is any way to fit a 16. Some have done certain 17s but grinding was required.

will these also work for the 2010- CTS-V 6 PISTON caliper.
@LegitStreetCars8 жыл бұрын
Im not totally sure if those calipers will work with the 14inch 5th gen rotors. I know that when the 5th gen guys upgrade to the 6 piston calipers they usually go with a 2 piece rotor off the zl1 or gen 2 cts v
@Mattlt16 жыл бұрын
Why not just get a set of V rotors? What's the difference? Going to be doing this to mine.
