Album is honestly amazing! Modern classic for JP there will be songs on here that will become staples in the JP setlist. There is very little if any filler on this album, oddly enough the tracks that were mentioned in this review as his favourites, are to me, some of the weaker tracks. Take what I say with a grain of salt as there are actually no weak tracks on this album. This is an actual ALBUM not a disc with 2 or 3 good songs. You can listen to this right through and not skip a track and will be wanting more by the end. So happy we got this album by JP in 2024. The world is so upside down I’m glad we have something this great to ground us and put a smile on our faces.

Yes it’s Richie Faulkner, he’s turned Priest around since his inclusion in the band. He’s easily more talented than Downing, if Glenn Tipton was the GT that he was before Alzheimer’s, they’d easily be the best 2 rock guitarists playing today. Not taking anything away from Tipton, he was a superlative musician. Faulkner however is still a humble man & and equally superb player, his fills & solos are only comparable to the greatest melodic guitarist Michael Schenker, who he cites as one of his major influences.

I'm 56 years old and go back to Hell Bent for Leather when I became a Priest fan and I was surprisingly and quiet pleasantly blown away by this record. It keeps getting better with each listen and to me that's usually a sign of a future classic. So much going on with this release. The beautiful mixing of the old Priest with the new and all the amazing guitar work and drums and of course the amazing and timeless vocals of Rob Halford. His voice has aged like fine wine and he sounds as good as he ever has. I tend to like the heavier faster tracks like Panic Attack, Sons of Thunder, Serpent and The King, Vicious circle, especially to listen to when driving lol. But I fell in Love with Escape from Reality and As God as My Witnesses to. Such a good flow to this record and each track has it's own unique flavor. I already put this in my top 5-6 releases from them and it could move up over time. Thanks for the great review....as always really like your takes and perspectives. ✌

In my personal opinion, Scott Travis is the unsung hero of this album! His drumming is absolutely ferocious and he's really shaken up the band's sound since he joined for the 'Painkiller' album! "Giants in the Sky" is my favorite song from 'Invincible Shield.' I have the Target exclusive version with the three bonus tracks and while I feel that "Giants in the Sky" closes the album better, I'm still glad to have the bonus tracks!

This record rules and the sound is amazing . Great drum sound and the guitars shred. Rob rules. Still keeping the crown and showing everyone, 5 decades in , they are still at the top of their powers . … that being said bands need to think in terms of vinyl length . Why were their more classic albums way back when . Because they were forced to edit to fit the vinyl limitations. I say leave em wanting more ! This record does not suffer to badly from the length but could Firepower be a classic if it was 18 minutes shorter? Hmm.

I’m posting my comments on here before I start watching the video because I don’t wanna be swayed in any direction - that said…. I actuall6’started listening to the record around 10:30pm on Thursday night. I got the Amazon version, so they had it on Alexa prior to midnight.I then listened to it probably 13-14x since. I absolutely love this record. This right now (only early March, but) is album of the year. There are some things coming down the pike that could challenge it, but for now AOTY. Every tracks is fantastic. Halford crushes from start to finish. Faulkner does Faulkner things to it. Ian and Scott Travis handle the back end like always… and to know Glenn Tipton had major contributions also is awesome. Not sure how much Glenn will do live, but having him a part of the songwriting process is cool. A+++, 5*****, 10/10 for me. Time to watch the video!!!!

I've listened to this album from start to finish. If I were to buy this, I would only buy the Deluxe Edition because I feel like "Fight for your life" is the best song on this release. Very much classic Priest. To be honest, I haven't loved Priest ever since Scott Travis joined the band. Ever since he joined the band's music and undertones have changed. Almost all of the music that Priest has made since Travis has joined has been up tempo style metal that just melts your face and to me, that's not what JP is about. I much prefer British Steel, Screaming for vengeance, Defenders and Turbo. Since Travis joined, they have simultaneously lost their melody. Halford just screams. Since Painkiller, everything is double bass, up tempo, very little melody and Halford just screaming. I think his singing before that was great. Lots of range from bottom to top, more melody in the music and just straight forward hard rock. They lost me after Turbo. Now, I end up just liking a song or two off of every release since Painkiller. Also, the undertones of the band have been more satanic since Travis joined. Not sure if that's just coincidental or on purpose. Not a fan of that undertone of music. But I like your video and review. I think it's pretty accurate on the best songs of the new release. It's just okay for me but much better than the last couple of albums.

I find it strange you’d make this comment considering you don’t know Glenn and you weren’t there. How could you possibly know if he played or didn’t play? @@BrendonSnyder You need to watch live videos of him playing and also read about Parkinson’s at this stage. Watch his hands live and in video, he is only playing chords (only a select few) And there’s extremely intricate playing on this album, both riff and solos. I think most guitarists would be able to see.
@BrendonSnyder
@BrendonSnyder 4 ай бұрын
Like I said, you weren’t there. Your comment is put speculation. I have a friend who went through Parkinson’s years ago and he had good days and bad days. In the studio they can take the time and have Glenn only record on good days. While I don’t think he played a lot on the record, I do believe he was able to play. In addition he has co-writing credits on all of the songs except one. He had to be able to play to write. So your logic is flawed unless you just don’t believe anything you read.

@@BrendonSnyder How is the logic flawed? I put he most probably wrote on the album. I know a number of people who write in different ways, don’t always need the guitar :) 95% of Metal/Rock albums rhythm guitars are tracked by one guitarist, the strongest rhythm player. This is clearly Richie in this case. Honestly I get you are a Tipton fan but I doubt he tracked a lot on this album. Any solid guitarist can tell you those solos are probably all Richie’s.

Priest was at its best between 1976-1978. With British Steel their sound became commercial. They lost their British metal roots and became an American sounding band which is why British Steel is praised much by US citizens. Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin and Stained Class are real true masterpieces by Priest.

My absolute favourite album by Priest is Killing Machine dovetailing into Unleashed In The East. British Steel is okay but for me the best track is United. It has a soccer feel in both title and sound. And maybe for me their best ever song after Before The Dawn.

this could not have been better stated. spot on! I would also tack on that SFV is one of the most overhyped metal albums ever. decent record but not on par with the 70s output
