Both are great bands, but Megadeth to me writes better riffs, better lyrics, and is way more consistent with their music quality. Dave Mustaine always just rubbed me the wrong way, which should not have prevented me from appreciating their music, but, unfortunately, it did. Thankfully I got over it awhile ago and can now enjoy both bands. .

Yeah I’ve had some bands I just could get into or truly appreciate because I didn’t like the personality of the main guy. It is what it is. when i first saw this i thought metallica straight away. BUT after a bit of thought i swayed to megadeth. i have not heard all megadeth albums just the first 7 then dystopia but i think i can give a fair point on this subject. peace sells and rust in peace are just as good as ride the ligtning and master of puppets and the black album is just as good as countdown to extinction so in there prime they about equal. then metallica release load reload and st anger which in my opinion are unforgivable so thats where megadeth edge it as youthanasia alone is better then them 3 alone. death magnetic and hardwire was a transformation back to good times but only as good as dystopia. so megadeth wins it in my opinion

I think a lot of people would initially say Metallica but I’m hoping with some thought they may see the virtues of Megadeth too. They have been far more consistent throughout so there is probably more you’ll find to love.

I have always ask myself ,why has the english-speaking area produced so many excellent bands in the sixties , seventies, eighties until today? Why does this outstanding position come from? Where does the history come from. You can find it anyway so concentrated in the world. Long time i could not find an answer. And then by accident i heard the english lute player John Dowland also John Doeland. He was born in the 16th century in England. He was the best lute player in his time und wrote so many awesome tunes. The notes have been handed down. Oh man what a amazing surprise. When you listen to his excellent lute playing with so many compositions you are hearing immediatly Tull, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Marillion, ELP. and all the other stuff. IT's a special way to create an awesome song and all have outweighet this gene. I think it's a topic for doctoral thesis. This topic fascinates me.

I would've been stuck on the fence for this duel. If I had to choose based on my list of favorite albums, it would be Metallica (their first three are in my Top 100...yes, I made a list). But Metallica's output definitely declined in quality. My favorite album from Megadeth (...so far, so good...) falls below Metallica's first three, but Megadeth had consistently better output later on. Even after noting all of this, I'm still on the fence! (BTW, I did receive the "Justice for Jason" CD...it is an improvement, though I think it still needed more bass.)

Personally not a fan of Jeff Young’s work so I chose not to mention him. Although I suppose I should have since I mentioned all the other guitar players. But Jeff didn’t come from anywhere or go on to do anything else so that was also the point as the other musicians have all either come from another band or went on to do other things of significant note. I do wish Jeff had formed another band and made more albums so I could really hear more of his style of playing even now he just does cover after cover song.

Cool video. One place I'd disagree is describing Metallica's longer tracks as "jammy." I've always rated Metallica better overall because of their ability to arrange and structure songs (especially during their 80's heyday). Lars may not be a fantastic drummer, but he and Cliff knew how to arrange songs for maximum impact, with a sense of ebb and flow and rising and falling dramatic tension. Little if any sounds meandering or improvisatory to my ears, but rather carefully planned, almost like little classical pieces. In Megadeth's favor, they had the incomparable Marty Friedman, the metronomically precise Ellefson, and Dave somehow managing to sing over those crazy-complex rhythm riffs. Everyone's a winner!

@section8usmc53 Жыл бұрын
Who wins? We all do. Dave might be burnt about being ousted from Metallica, but I hate to imagine a world without Rust In Peace, or Hidden Treasures, or Countdown To Extinction to name just a few. I have to say that in the most recent years, while they don't get near the exposure, Megadeth albums are really consistent in the fact that there's usually several great songs on each album. I had lost track over the years, and went back and listened to the past several albums and was amazed. I can only imagine if Metallica had stuck with their general style and sound the whole time. Megadeth has always sounded like Megadeth, if that makes sense. It may be boring to some, but I like bands for what they are, not what I hope they become or change into. While not all out thrash, the black album is a great album. They lost me quickly beyond that. My two favorite metal albums of all time are Rust In Peace and ...And Justice For All. That 4 album period they were neck and neck for me. The two I just mentioned, then they both slowed a bit, but still had heavy, sort of dark albums with the black album and Countdown To Extinction. Both at the top of their game. Prior to those, I'm with Metallica. After that, Megadeth.

i guess it’s pretty appropriate (much to Dave Ellefson’s chagrin) but i noticed you referred to megadeth as one person a couple times (as in “he chose to remaster...”). Many have argued that Megadeth has always been a Dave Mustaine solo project at heart
@BrendonSnyder3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Dave Mustaine has full control of that band. David Ellefson may have been his right hand guy for a long time but it’s run by Dave. I’d agree it’s basically a solo venture for him the same way Nine Inch Nails is really just Trent Rezner.

Metallica made the best albums with Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets in my opinion. Megadeth has a more stable carreer and stayed more to their sound. Metallica changed with the Black Album to a more commercial sound. It's not bad but I prefer their first four albums. Megadeth made some great albums but also some weak albums.
@BrendonSnyder3 жыл бұрын
The change between Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extension I feel was just as drastic as the change between And Justice For All and the Black album. But Megadeth retained that newer sound for Youthanisa before changes again on Cryptic Writings and then Risk. Where as Metallica’s was a much more drastic chance to the Load/ReLoad albums and then St Anger. But in all of those albums they each have their high points too.
