I just recently had a come to Jesus with myself. I’ve been buying up so much stuff thanks to people like Brendon, Pete Pardo, and many others. Thing is, much of it sits unopened, my time is so limited. I came to the conclusion that I need to start opening up this stuff and sitting down and enjoying it. I suffer from a classic investing make, ‘FOMO.’ (fear of missing out). I see something at a fair price and feel the compulsion to snap it up just in case I wait and the price then spikes and/or it goes out of print.

I do acknowledge the fact that the bigger my collection gets, the less repeated listens I do. Like you said when you're younger and the collection was smaller you'd listen to one album for days. Harder to do that these days with all the access we have to music. Great session 👍

No kidding. I can remember when FRAGILE, SCHOOL'S OUT, DEMONS AND WIZARDS, ABRAXAS, LED ZEP III, AEROSMITH, DOORS 13, etc were the only LPs I had by those bands. Wore them out.

This is the first Q & A I've seen of yours; I just started watching your videos in the last month! Love it all! I went to a show or a few a year up until my last in 2012; June Jam in Gadsden, AL. I got to see Lou Gramm doing solo and some Foreigner stuff, Fuel and Skid Row with a new vocalist who since has passed away sadly. I paid 15 bucks for that night of entertainment. I'll never get that kind of deal again and I probably will never go to another show. My first album purchase with my own money was State of Confusion by The Kinks in 1983 and the first record I bought was the 45rpm of Every Breath You Take by The Police!

This was fun hearing all Q&A. I also remember some of my early purchases even though it was long ago. I definitely remember getting the Love at First Sting LP for christmas 1984. After that it was no going back; the passion for music was there. I remember bying my first CD:s even before I had a CD player. It was Hysteria by Def Leppard and Tough it Out by FM back in 1989.

Excellent video. Good talk about purging. I did that back about 10-12 years ago and I really regret it. I never had a collection like yours, Brendon, or even close, but I sold off a lot. I still have a lot of CDs, all of my favorite stuff, but I wish I had more of that library. A more diverse collection. I rebuy stuff here and there but I'll never buy it all back of course. Also I love Ratt Detonator. I only had that on cassette as a kid. Listened to it a lot. But my taste got heavier so I never bought it on CD. Recently picked it up on CD and it still sounds great.

I picked up a Ratt CD collection on Amazon. It had Out of the Cellar, Invasion of Your Privacy, Dancing Undercover, Reach for the Sky, and Detonator. These sets are a cheap and easy way to boost your collection. I got all of those for $22 so it was a real steal.

@@patriottex4813 Nice! Thank you. I already had the first 3 albums on CD. Couldn't find Detonator for a long time. Reach for the Sky is the one Ratt album I'm not a big fan of. Those collections are great. I just picked up one with the entire White Lion catalog for $37.

Hi Brendon, I am a viewer of your channel and have the same taste in music, I am also a collector since the 80's, I don't have nearly as many CDs as you, I have a few questions for you, forgive me if you've already been asked these questions: 1. Do you use a portable CD player, if so which brand is it? 2. Also are you still using the Denon player at home? How is the Bluetooth on that? Do you use wired headphones at all? 3. Do you keep some kind of inventory list of your collection? I've been thinking about buying some type of scanner that will input into a computer file, to create some kind of list, not sure if there is such a thing. Hope you'll be able to shoot me back your answers, take it easy and rock on 🤘🤘😎

My collection just topped 800 recently. My vinyl has surpassed 100. I've been collecting since I was 16. I've been able to buy more music since the kids grew up and moved out. My collection has jumped by 300 in the last 5 years. I am close to having all of Springsteen's studio album catalog. I have most of the Beatles , Moody Blues catalog. One that I probably will never complete is Duran Duran as many of their newer releases have not garnered my interest. One catalog of love to complete is Journey. I really have loved following your channel and seeing you on a panel with Pete Pardo, and Grant was exciting for me. God bless Brendon and rock on!

Great video, Brendon! I too feel the same way every time I look at my book collection feeling proud of the many novels, graphic novels, manga and other fictional stuff I own. And like you, I want more so I can add on to my collection! The only time I get rid of books is when replacing a damage copy for a better one or getting rid of a novel I disliked. I don't hang onto anything I don't like, not even albums. I only keep the stuff I like. I been getting more albums myself a mixture of older and newer stuff as I love discovering bands I never heard before or giving stuff I tried in the past another chance to see if I'll like it now or not. I also agree on live shows the worst is when people start talking when a band is playing. I'm here to listen to the band not some conversation! When me and my father went to see, Asia live along with Focus and Wishbone Ash, we had to listen to some people talking for a bit before they finally shut up. It's annoying! When I went to see Judas Priest and Iron Maiden live, me and my father had good seats so we we're both able to enjoy the show and not hear talking, but at least we both had a good time at the Asia show as well.

Love the story of you getting back stage very cool. I am totally in agreement about the Concert Ticket prices its crazy, Whether you like Cell Phones in concerts or not I don't agree with the upcoming Ghost tour with them making you put your phone in a locked bag if I am paying $$$ for a ticket I don't agree with you telling me to lock my phone in a bag, Great demo on changing jewel boxes since AMAZON has kept me in practice plus I buy my new jewel cases from them.
@theglavine
@theglavine 28 күн бұрын
Best way to get jewel cases is to buy actual cds from thrift stores if they are 50 cents or less. I buy them sometimes just for the case: even NSYNC cds I'd never get caught dead with otherwise LOL. I have access to cds at 10 and 25 cents at a few locations. Often, you can find sealed ones so you can get new cases. I sell cds online so as shipping costs have gone up, finding cases that way is cheaper than any of the best deals I have for big case lot purchases (ie 250)!

Glad to hear the interest in Green Day. They are a great band to find side projects, solo projects and all manner of offshoots. Family bands. Even their influences are a treasure trove. Their covers are what got me deep into Classic Rock - Cheap Trick, The Who, Queen, Replacements, AC/DC....they do some Guns N Roses sometimes.

Did their 'cover' of The Kink's 'Picture Book' as 'Warning' turn you on to the Kinks? A similar thing happened way back when The Doors 'covered' All Day and All of the Night as 'Hello I Love You'. 'Cover', meaning melody or the music as the lyrics were changed. In fact, a British court awarded Ray Davies royalties of the Doors song. There is an obscure Kinks tune She's Got Everything that the Romantics covered fantastically on their classic debut record which has a bridge whose melody was lifted directly for the Deep Purple tune Woman From Tokyo. The Romantics cover completely left out that bridge for a solo a la early Kink's tunes like You Really got Me. I do think Green Day properly covered Tired of Waiting for YOu.

Speaking of which, I have complied a list of songs that stalled at #41 on the Billboard Hot 100 and there are some classics like 3 songs from the Cars (Let The Good Times Roll, Since You're Gone, It's All I Can Do), 2 from The Kinks (also Fly Like Superman), Beat of A Heart by Scandal, Changes by David Bowie, and the best one being 'Tiny Dancer' by Elton John. Tiny Dancer was too long a song for radio but it was used classically in Almost Famous! Missing Persons, a great New Wave band featuring Dale & Terry Bozzio from Zappa's band at one point, whose two classic tunes Words and Destination Unknown both stalled at #42!

I get where you are coming from concerning attending concerts these days. I haven't been to a concert in I can't remember how long. I do remember a few years ago someone was in town I wanted to see so I checked out ticket prices. I nearly fell over when I discovered prices ranging from $200.00 - $400.00. I'm like screw this. That's just so outrageous. I realize everything costs more, but when I think I used to pay $5.00 - $7.00 for a ticket, I'm just blown away. So much more stuff here, great video, thanks.

Reasons i stop going to concerts 1. Too expensive (even the bad seats are too much) 2. Hearing people who can't sing, singing along to songs. I pay to hear the real singer not YOU. (+ those who don't stop talking during a show. Shut up & listen to the music) 3. Drunks & drug users starting fights or vomiting next to you. 4. People raising their arms & cell phones up & blocking my view. 5. Insulting & degrading door checks (aka molesting) by security treating you like a terrorist. 6. Over priced food & drinks......and band merchandise. 7. People who smoke marijuana or cigarettes having no consideration for people with asthma, pregnant or kids present at the shows. (even at Taylor Swift shows people were complaining about this)

You sort of answered my questions with 2 of the others you got. Here they are again, would like to know your thoughts on these things: Which artists have you seen live the most, and who would you want to see live that you haven't? When you acquire live bootlegs, do you just get soundboard recordings, or do you get audience recordings too? What're some live bootlegs you own and are your favourites?
@BrendonSnyder

I like to go to see local bands or famous bands I've no idea about but I know they are famous, and I enjoy being there surrounded by other metalheads, holding a beer.. The big names that are coming to play, the tickets prices are too expensive for me and we are bombarded by bands touring down here in south america. I purged my small collection once and I totally regret doing that.. I decluttered my place by getting rid of a lot of cds with mp3, magazines... do I regret doing that? absolutely!! If I could go back in time, I would prevent myself from getting rid of all that stuff.

I'm sure you've read it but there is a great book, "Nöthin' But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the '80s Hard Rock Explosion" by Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock. It's basically an oral history from the musicians and insiders. I think it was Bret Michaels in the book that said "glam killed glam" cause they got complacent and worried about their image. Anyway, its a great read!

Agree about the annoying drunks at concerts. I saw Anthrax a few weeks ago and someone was going around punching and grabbing people. On the positive though I was happy to get a guitar pick from both Joey and Scott which are now safely stored in my Anthrax CD case. But that experience has put me off going to more shows. However I have booked tickets to see Iron Maiden in 2025 although I’m sad Nicko has left. It’s still a band I need to tick off my list before they get too old. Another band i need to see at least once is Metallica! Then I think I’m happy to go on never going to a concert again or for a while anyway. 😂

Live shows these days are nothing like they were in the 80s. I can't bear to pay the exorbitant prices for shows anymore either. Part of the reason for that is the overall luke warm reactions to the bands. Seems like some people just go to say they were there. They're talking, walking back and forth for beer, filming with their phones, and causing distractions with their sellfish behavior constantly. Now having said that, we had our share of bad behavior back in the day too. We were usually in the front row then so, it's different when you're in assigned seats or standing further back. In those days we had to deal with the pushing of the rows of people behind you and fights.
