From a Worldbuilders fundraising campaign, this is "The Jealous Queen Of Heaven" Run by B Dave Walters with
Patrick Rothfuss, Aabria Iyengar, Saige Ryan, Jim Zub, Brennan Lee Mulligan, and Harli Kane
Mossbrow explains why he cares for his mortal friends in a brief but moving speech.
You might notice a dice bag gets emptied and used to wipe some tears in a very wholesome moment....
This is from the middle of a campaign (Part 3):
• "The Jealous Queen Of ...
To catch the campaign from the beginning,
Part 1:
• Pat Rothfuss plays a L...
Part 2:
• Pat Rothfuss plays a L...
And Part 4 is out now:
• "The Jealous Queen Of ...
I highly recommend it, along with donating to Worldbuilders, a nonprofit that helps people by giving them chickens, cows, trees, and other continual sources of food and income

Brennan's philosophy major shows when he just throws in Kantian ethics in the middle of a dnd game like it's the most natural thing in the world.

I strongly suspect Brennan just gave words to something Pat feels about himself and hasn't expressed before. That why he does this charity stuff, why certain causes are so close to his heart, does not have a why, they are primary.

The question of "why" seeks to discover the cause of something. In the flow of cause and effect, the question of why presupposes an origin, something that is primary, the causer of a chain of events. For me, my care for these people is primary. There is no why. It is the first truth of myself that I love these people. In time, you will be a beacon of hope to a great many.

Brennans so good at improv because he listens and thinks about his response. Something that sounds easy, but most don't truly take the time to do.

He also builds his characters in a manner where getting into them is very natural for him so its not as difficult to articulate their complex emotions. He very good at literally putting himself in his characters shoes because of how deeply he understands their story, feelings, and motives. I wouldn't be surprised if he spends alot of time creating his characters certainly more then most people.

Have you seen the Exandria Roundtable video he was in with Matt Mercer and Aabria? He just kept dropping off the cuff wisdom and between that and his insane improv skills it just really cemented my already high opinion of him as a DnD player, on both sides of the table.

@@logicaloverdrive8197 i know EXU: calamity 2 probably wouldn't be a thing and wouldn't even make sense in the story of exandria as a whole, but i'm absolutely praying that brennan comes back to dm/play another critical role thing, whether it's another EXU thing or something else entirely. i'm already hyped for him in candela obscura, which absolutely fits his vibe, especially if you've seen him play that priest in L.A. by night (edit: the priest's name is adrian, i just got recommended the youtube highlight once again lmao)

@@mac_sour Brennan has talked about how him and Matt were dividing it up with EXU: Calamity being a Fire aspect, Matt did something based on water and so they pick from earth and air now. I'm not sure which interview and where it was and what Matt did after EXU: Calamity that was the Water aspect but I'm pretty sure that memory wasn't just a fever dream so I believe Brennan has plans to return to Exandria. Even if not, I mean he's got to right?

If that line had been said in any popular TV show it would have shaken through the nerd world like an earthquake and Mossbrow would have instantly become one of the most beloved characters around. I know for some this is just basic ethics 101 but the way Mossbrow says it just exemplifies the utter purity of goodness in him, what a profoundly moving statement that says everything you need to know about how this character thinks. Goddammit Brennan.

I love this so much because his answer has a bit of a preamble where he's interrogating the question of "Why?" and I for sure thought on some level he was just leading to an answer of "Why not?" or something like that, something just implying that there doesn't need to be a reason because it doesn't matter that much... but for him to come back with "For me, my care for these people is primary," just broke me instantly. I should've known Brennan would never give a flippant rhetorical answer suggesting that whether or not you care doesn't matter.

He formally studied philosophy and when you're intimately familiar with a lot of different complex opinions and modes of thought, you can use them as building blocks to create complex characters with a consistency to their logic and personality that stems from those basic fundamentals. The same way he creates lovable characters, he can equally create really, really fantastic villains with very concise and impactful ideologies even if he doesn't personally agree with them. Improv + Philosophy is really powerful pairing for a DM.
