The hardware was perfectly fine running Win7 (Core i5 first gen laptop, 8G DDR3, SSD) but with Win10 I got a lot of BSOD, drivers problems (my Wifi card was not working properly) and overall a sluggish computer. I blamed the upgrade and I freshly reinstalled Win10, but I got the same drivers problems, altough the computer performed way better. I went back to Win7 and I kept using it until some programs that I use were not supported anymore on Win7. So, now i am running Win10 that is stable and is perfectly usable. How about fixing 24H2! When using media to install Windows 11, version 24H2, the device might remain in a state where it cannot accept further Windows security updates. This occurs only when the media is created to include the October 2024, or November 2024, security updates as part of the installation (these updates were released between October 8, 2024 and November 12, 2024). Please note, this only occurs when utilizing media - such as CD and USB flash drives - to install Windows 11, version 24H2. This issue does not occur for devices where the October 2024 security update or the November 2024 security updates are installed via Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog website. Workaround: To prevent issues, do not install Windows 11, version 24H2 which installs the October 2024 or November 2024 security updates. Instead, ensure that media used to install Windows 11, version 24H2, includes the December 2024 monthly security update (released December 10, 2024), or later. Next steps: We are working on a resolution and will provide more information when it is available. Affected platforms: Client: Windows 11, version 24H2

Back then, once you have entered a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 key to activate Windows 10 (since version 1511 it also supports clean installs), that key will be treated as a Windows 10 key. It also works in Windows 11 due to having the same activation system. But beginning September/October 2023, they started disabling this loophole (which is supposed to run only till July 2016).

I though "upgrading" from 10 to 11 was free this whole time anyway?

Yes MS should pay for everyone to get a new PC capable of Installing Win 11 and pay to have all the global landslides of old PC's be cleared or recycled etc. Then maybe people will take notice from MS. Personally WIn11 is garbage after getting close to 4 years released and still causing BSOD from updating or causing PC's to totally break. If MS actually release a version of Windows that actually does as they claim I will start listening to them and they get rid of the adware/spyware from the OS. I will be glad to see the back of MS and its bad and shoddy practices of late. This Win11 is not what most windows users wanted or asked for. So MS will get a clear shock when Linux becomes the main OS and dominates if it be on Steam OS or any other version of Linux. They will be releasing Win12 soon and that is going to be something similar to 11, but more AI and more telemetry, more bloatware and adware/spyware from MS stealing you're data, code, bank details and everything you have and own. They do not want you to own anything, check out Windows 360 thin client and cloud PC's

Microsoft can WANT me to change to Windows 11 as much as they like. I ain't doing it. They told me quite a while ago that Windows 10 would become End Of Life, but I couldn't have Windows 11 either. Well, even if I could afford to (which I can't) I was not about to throw away and replace three perfectly good computers just because Almighty Microsoft said so. All three currently run Windows 10. One of these, I run offline. It will STAY running Windows 10 offline. I use this machine for video and music production. I have ZERO reasons to want to change to Windows 11, and several reasons not to want to, on this machine. It does exactly what I require of it at present, thank you. The other two machines, which I use for more day to day stuff, are becoming Linux machines. Simple as that.

Thanks for the heads up. Microsoft are scraping the barrel. Others may be interested in my shift away from Windows. I dual booted Windows and Linux Mint two years ago. I gradually got used to Mint, not all things are as easy as in Windows ie making shortcuts to run programs but with a bit of effort I learnt how to sort this and many other things out. I'm all for open source programs and have a ton on my Linux system. Linux Mint has been no trouble. I would never go back to only using Windows now. And I started years ago with Windows 3.1. I've recently got a cheap mini pc. It comes with Win 11 pro on a 128 GB EMMC drive. But it has additional drive slots and on these I have installed Linux systems. Default boot is to the drive with Linux Mint on. I wanted to move from my dual boot laptop - it was originally Windows 7 but I updated using a Win 10 iso and Rufus heck that was a learning curve. I dual booted Windows 10 and Linux Mint on it then upgraded the Win 10 to 11. Had to dual boot again as Windows installer won't share a drive. My mini pc has the operating systems on separate drives. I've only booted Windows on it a couple of times really just to see how it runs on a higher spec processor - to be honest not a lot quicker than on the old Win 7 cleron machine. I'm thinking of getting rid of Windows altogether on the mini pc EMMC drive. As I learnt how to use Mint I've found out about other innovative operating systems like FydeOS, so that's probably going on the EMMC. What I'm saying is if you're prepared to learn new things then alternative operating systems like Mint, ZorinOS, Ubuntu and their programs are better than Windows as Windows currently stands. Sorry if this is boring I'm just an old retired guy who likes tinkering with technology.

Suggestion, consider switching to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC to get a further several years beyond the standard Windows 10 lifecycle.

Instructions unclear, installing a fresh image of Windows 7 on my secondary system and secondary drive on my main system. I also acquired a full Xbox 360 system for good measure. I think I'll be good for now.

Fear tactics. You would have to upgrade your hardware anyway; because Win11 is so bloated.
