Bret Hart, the stand-up guy who, in 1990, used politics to save the job of his brother-in-law, Jim Neidhart, and keep the tag titles on the Hart Foundation-robbing The Rockers of what would be their only championship reign in the process. Bret Hart, the same man who, in 1992, used politics to drop the Intercontinental title to Davey Boy Smith, another brother-in-law, rather than Shawn Michaels, who was the number two heel in the company at the time (and who ultimately ended up getting the title from the British Bulldog before he was fired for steroids). Bret used politics as much as anyone else during his run. Go back and watch his matches. Pay attention to how many times he was beaten cleanly. It’s not coincidence.

If people keep asking him the same questions and he always gives the same answers unlike others who go "oh well felt like that at the time but i didn't mean it that way"! Brett just said, “Bridges? Who needs em? Get the petrol and a torch”.
@robwest54578 жыл бұрын
Let's get one thing straight. Despite what anyone in these threads say, it's universally known that Bret was the good guy and Shawn and the Kliq were a band of bullies that were high on any drug they can get their hands on (which they admit in every shoot they do). Shawn and the Kliq would literally intimidate older guys near retirement like The Bushwhackers, and others left over from that 80's era, guys that would just be there to finish out their run and make the last few dollars of good money they ever could in life doing what they love. Guys that were great for the business that were most likely too old and injured to defend themselves in that stage of life (physically) and too intimidated because of the Kliq's influence, for fear of losing their job. Shawn would try to make fools of them with the backup of his friends like Hall, Nash, and Hunter. Bret would stand up for these guys and not allow that behavior. Bret, a professional, would have to see Shawn and company acting like...
@robwest54578 жыл бұрын
...childish assholes on the road, treating hotel, rental car, and airline staff like shit and fans like cash machines. I'm sure that behavior got under Bret's skin, being from Canada where people are respectful and honor tradition. Bret was a company man yes, but it's because he understood he was representing the company, as the face, so he would not trash a hotel room when he sees hard working people have to clean the mess up that the Kliq left behind and not get tipped or make a dollar extra for the trouble. Bret is mis-characterized as this guy who takes things too serious because "wrestling is fake." Yes, wrestling is fake, but treating people in society with respect is real. Bret understood that and didn't abuse drugs and act like he was above the law terrorizing cities across the globe. He had class and his frustration levels with their behavior I can feel in 2015, because if I had to deal with co-workers who act like animals everywhere we go together I would hate those guys too

How is his salary relative to the way he treated fans? When I say treating fans like cash machines, I'm referring to the fact that Michaels and co refused to sign autographs for fans without forcing them to cough up a few bucks, not to mention their $10k public appearance fee (to Bret's $4k). Salary has nothing to do with the direct way they raked fans over the coals.

@ramonalejandrosuare8 жыл бұрын
Arron Sorrell I loved DX and NWO but people like you give the Kliq waaaay more credit than they deserve. The biggest stars of the Monday Night wars weren't from the Kliq, they were Rock and Steve Austin, two wrestlers who Shawn Micheals and HHH tried hard as fuck to bury. If they had their way they'd have dominated that era in a way which would have ruined the product. You see it in WCW where Nash had free reign to politic and help destroy the product there and now you've seen it in WWE with how HHH put himself over throughout the 2000s when he wasn't anywhere near the company's most talented wrestler.
@Showtime61920098 жыл бұрын
it was the kliq that between 94 and 95 was pushing vince to make wrestling more real, and if it was not for there curtin cull then hhh would hav won the king of the ring an stone cold would never have said coz stone cold 3.16 just kicked your ass an yes nash an nwo ruined wcw but thats coz they did not hav a vince like guy at the top to stop them an keep them in place (wich is why wcw failed) hbk never tryed to keep stone cold down nor the rock i don't know bout hhh but i find it hard to belive he would as his best matches was with both stone cold and the rock maybe it looked like that on screen but thats just the way it was meant to look, look our hhh took a backing role with stone cold during the 2 man power trip (when stone cold was wwe champ am hhh took a side step an become ic champ)
@ramonalejandrosuare8 жыл бұрын
Arron Sorrell That 1994-1996 period where the Kliq supposedly wanted to make wrestling more "real" was also the low point in the WWF history because they were tearing the company apart with their very self-interested decision making. It wasn't until the rise of Stone Cold Steve Austin and later The Rock (both which happened when Micheals was out of the company healing his injuries) when the company boomed. You giving the Kliq credit for the Austin's success because of the Curtain Call, a selfish move to fuck the kayfabe over, is lame since they didn't do it to put anyone over just to say FU to company management. And yes, Shawn Micheals tried to keep Austin down by the time Wrestlemania XiV rolled around. So much so that Undertaker basically threatened to beat Micheals with a baseball bat if he refused to job to Austin in the match like he did with Bret Hart earlier. As for HHH, it has been well known in wrestling circles that he and Rock never liked each other because Hunter tried to bury Rock's title push early on during the Attitude Era.

If you've seen the Bret vs Shawn DVD, there's a couple parts where Bret is really pouring out his feelings and emotions about that time period, and Shawn sort of just laughs it all off. I think that's what he means when he says here "I don't think Shawn's sorry for a lot of stuff" After watching that dvd a couple times, you really get the vibe that Shawn is sorry for who he was, but not really sorry for certain things he did, and he hides behind this notion that "he just wanted Bret's validation". In interviews he would say that it was to protect the business, but this again is contradictory in relation to him having no honor and no dignity whatsoever. Stone Cold is King of the Attitude Era... But he wasn't the only one or thing to start it. The influence of ECW and nWo going on at WCW. The Monday Night Wars, and the feud between Bret and Shawn Michael's. The attitude era would officially lay rest by mid 2002 about a year after the WWE says it ended cause they like rewriting history for the kids.

Brett hart is known for being a bitter mark for himself.
@ArachnidSoul3 жыл бұрын
I haven't really seem Bret Hart since he left WCW. Bret was always a guy I'd want on my roster and in the locker-room (especially over Michaels). Bret was legit one of the best wrestlers WWF ever had, and one of the best wrestlers of all time for any league. Plus if a fight broke out, you could actually hide behind Bret. Shawn would already be on the ground with a black eye, holding his knee and asking for time off from the unsafe work environment. Bret still looks great(this vid is the 1st I've seen of him since he left WCW). I saw a pic of Shawn Michaels recently (for the 1st time since 2003/2004). I hate to talk about how people are aging, but I don't think my comments could be worse than HBK's actions over the years. Bret seems to be aging much better. MUCH better (despite the stroke). HBK doesn't even look like the same guy to me. I laughed and also felt really bad for him when I saw him recently. You can still look at Ricky Morton or Ric Flair and understand how they were magnets with the women back in the day. You look at HBK now, and it's difficult to believe that was ever the case. When you 'find Jesus' and start pretending in public to be a better person, I don't forgive you for all the bs just because you started having one way conversations invisible people. That's a rule inside the Christian religion, not in general society. Assholes are assholes, no matter which religious text they read or don't read. Why would HBK need a book to tell him he's an asshole, when people have been saying that to/and about him for decades? HBK has retired to a Christian life of killing animals, and telling lies about the past. Good guy. And he's smiling again!

@@truerealrationalist It wouldn't have been so bad if he was willing to work with people besides his friends...or just work in general. There's a story he tells in an interview about a cage match with Yokozuna. Basically, the ring hands took too long setting up the cage, and Nash wanted to go drinking. He talked Yoko into cutting the match short, which pissed off some of the people in the back. Nash being Nash, didn't give a shit and just left. Imagine being a fan and going to see him, then he only wrestles for 3 minutes after waiting almost a half hour for the cage to get set up, then see this interview years later. Fuck Nash.

Bret is ALWAYS patting himself on the back. "I was for the boys." " I was the leader in the lockerrom." Funny because I havent heard one, NOT FUCKING ONE, shoot where someome has gone out of their way to say Bret was their guy. The best I've heard is from Austin, Mick Foley and Jim Ross who have said they have a ton of respect for him and they loved working with him or that they enjoyed watching him work. The most common thing Ive heard regarding Bret is that he was quiet and mostly kept to himself. HTM shoot talked about Bret having his own locker room. I know Jim Ross eliminated personal locker rooms when he became head of talent. So Bret started dressing in Sunnys locker room because, as Sunny said, "Bret dressed with me and Chris (Candido) because Bret hated dressing with the boys." In Brets book, Bret says that Taker, Shawn, Nash and others all told Bret he gave them their greatest match ever. Funny bc Ive never heard 1 wrestler say Bret is the greatest.

I've heard wrestlers name 2 guys as backstage leaders during that period, Undertaker and Yokozuna. Bret's name is never mentioned among the leaders unless you're talking to Bret himself.

Wow so many people smashing Bret. Being a wrestler is a job and just like any job, you need to act like a professional. Bret was always a professional he worked hard and many wrestlers still say to this day that their best match was with him and that he helped them in their career. Sean Waltman/x pac, said his match was bret was one of his favorite and he was thankful bret did everything in that match to help his career. Mick Foley almost left WWE because he hated what happend to bret. Shawn was not liked by many other wrestlers and all though I like the wrestlers in the kliq, as human beings they were kind of pricks for the wrestling business. I mean if you think of a "poster boy" for a company and helping wrestling suceed, it's bret. Shawn also stared in playgirl which is read by more gay readers than women. Bret= respectable champion with good wrestling skills and although people don't admit it, he had awesome mic skills. Shawn= had his picture masterbated to by many gay men, good wrestler but wrestled shitty and over selled stuff to piss off other wrestlers and ruined matches (i.e. hullk match) and so on.

He was a natural prick and even after shawn claims he had changed he had bad attitude agains cena y2j and shane helms.
