6:50 you begin to hear the Robin Trower side of things and that tone is delicious! So many possible tones in this box. Thanks for the extensive review, much appreciated!

The graphic on this pedal is absolutely beautiful. It's only matched by the effect itself. Great demo as always :)

Hey Brett, I just happened on your channel in my search for demo vids of the Keeley Monterey and the Darkside pedal and what a pleasant surprise man! You really put it out there and give the viewer exactly what we need to make some kind of informed decision, as informed a decision as a musician can make!! So yeah man, really beautiful playing and it seems like you've got that pedal dialed. Anyway just wanted to say hey and you have a new subscriber and fan!

Very impressed with the rotary function on this unit. Always appreciate the quality of your audio! Thank you!

gosh, I'd buy this for the Rotary effect alone. Burgs, great idea to demo/review each effect more individually.

Not as much what it does, as how it does it. Keeley is a genius in the pedal world, it's the circuit and the research. Great video and beautiful pedal

Would love to hear a demo with a strat "couldn't stand the weather" opening riffs. Reckon it would be amazing!!! Thanks again Brett!!
@BrettKingman8 жыл бұрын
+Kouta2243 Good call, but here's the thing: I rarely play covers (although I make exceptions sometimes, obviously) because viewers tend to spend more time scrutinising me, my efforts and mistakes than they do the qualities of the pedal - which is what I'm doing this for... the pedal. And that is why I tend to make things up on the fly a lot. However... I'll give it a go! :)
@Kouta22438 жыл бұрын
+Brett Kingman That would be great. To me it's more about the feel that note accuracy. SRV never played that riff the same way twice anyway!!

Brett -- A straight-up great demo, as always. Can you comment just a little on the tone of the Monterey rotary compared with the Ventilator/Mini Vent? Please and Thank You!!!
@BrettKingman8 жыл бұрын
+Topsy Krett Sure. If we say that the Ventilator (any of them) equals 100% then the Monterey, to me at least, equals 75-80%. That's not bad when size the two up against each other. The Ventilator is a dedicated, high-end and relatively expensive device - the best of its kind if Leslie sim is ALL you want. The Monterey, however, will park right up next to it and the audience (if you're a working musician) would have a very hard time telling the difference. Hell, in the heat of rehearsal you probably would too! And then there's the rather generous and extended feature set that the Monterey offers as well. If we're talking value for money as well as Rotary quality, I'm afraid the scales are well tipped in Robert Keeley's favour when all is said and done.
@Topsy_Krett8 жыл бұрын
+Brett Kingman Excellent, thank you. I own the Strymon Mobius and Digitech Ventura pedals, both of which have rotary simulators yet are lacking, IMHO. Not sure if I truly need a super-accurate (and expensive) Leslie simulator...perhaps I would like a pedal which has an "idealised" version of the rotary effect - tailored for guitar. I hear a very cool swirl going on in this Monterey box which intrigues me. Its feature set is indeed impressive and the look is sweet, although personally, I wish Keeley would have created a dedicated rotary pedal instead of a do-it-all Jimi thing. Just me, I suppose, because I already have the fuzzes, wahs & vibes. Love that guitar, man. Cheers!

Hi Brett , I have #95 & sounds great. Sounds fantastic but as its a multi purpose pedal I'm having a problem where to stack - integrate it pre drive / post drive , boost ? Can sound noisy in the wrong place - any thoughts appreciated. Love the effort you put in to your demos. Cheers

That CoffeeCaster is so awesome - any chance of a Burgs Signature offering?......
@BrettKingman8 жыл бұрын
+pterantula The Coffeecaster kind of IS my signature offering - I spec'd and named it - along with The Hog, another Kingman/Smitty design. You can order either or both from Smitty Custom Guitars but I must make it clear that I get zero kickback or royalty. I've never had an offer to do a signature model from any company but it's something perhaps to look forward to and/or aim for before I shuffle off. In the meantime - smittyguitars.com

Choosing to operate the rate via your expression pedal is cool, but we're left not knowing anything about it. Did you keep it all the way up? Would have liked to hear you sweep through it so we could get a feel for the range. Nice as always, thanks.
@BrettKingman8 жыл бұрын
I feel your pain. I shall rectify this with a visual for the forthcoming Super Mod Workstation demos. That pedal uses the same Rotary and Exp control. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Brutha Brett, Where in the signal chain would an effect like this be placed?
@BrettKingman8 жыл бұрын
+James Green I'd put a rotary effect at or near the end of the chain, post dirt certainly and depending on taste, post reverb and/or delay as well. You should experiment. The whole thing about the Leslie was that it replaced a standard guitar cab specifically for its particular effect.
@jimiguitz968 жыл бұрын
+Brett Kingman Its Like a whole other Amp... Thx Bergs, What I was refering to in placement is where to place the Monterey it self? It almost seems like you won't need anything else other than than a delay and or verb when using this pedal...
@chrisboule9708 жыл бұрын
+James Green I initially placed the Monterey post dirt, but found I was getting a lot of weird artifacts with the wah setting, especially using an expression pedal. Putting it before any overdrive or distortion pedals seemed to eliminate this and sounds awesome. Ideally you'd like to have the rotary post drive but it's a small trade off.
