Trailing an old Mountain Lion Track with Hounds Riding A Mule

This is suppose to be a Throw Back Thursday.. but its on a Tuesday .. In 2013 I was living off grid in the mountains and getting to hunt a lot. I cut this old lion track while hiking out to use the cell phone. We got to trail this lion for a long ways in some good country. Riding my mule and watching the hounds work. Great adventure in beautiful country with some good hounds. Most all of those hounds are gone now and I don't live off grid anymore but I continue to hunt.

Good looking pack of pups, man when Sissy was working it all out, was so cool to hear her talking to you. Them were some pretty good tracking dogs. We have so much rain here it's rare we get to cold track like that. I really enjoy your effort and work you put into your video productions. The hard work really shows. But like you, i'm mostly here to hear the hounds open and see your part of the country. Thanks for the great videos.

Yeah I still have Sissy .. and she is still a good cold trailer ... and I have Jazz and she is a lot better then she was.. seems like cold trailing is about all I get to do here lately .... Question, how do you call your dogs off a hot trail Is it difficult to do? Awesome video I can watch these all day long great job.

Thank you... I really work hard at putting a good handle on my dogs.. they get in their pens load up and come to me when called .... I really work with them on developing a desire to please me .. now that being said they are still hounds and hard headed lol ... I train them to come back to me with the tone on the garmin tracker ... when called or toned they come all the way back to me for a "good boy" or girl and a pat on the head ....they are never in trouble if they are close to me .... but from time to time it can be very difficult to get them to come back from a hot track..

I think intelligence probably is most important .. given that they will trail and are gamey .. but to be a truly great hound I think it takes many traits ... Thank you!

I didn't but the guy from TX that came down and hunted with me had a bitch that came in season.. and Booger took advantage of it .. he didn't want any puppies but I thought it might be a good cross so I talked him into raising them until weaning age and then I drove over and got them.... The bitch is out of some of Jeff Alans stuff ... Maybe make good hounds worth a try I think..
