Agree😊and few pointers...if I just replaced filter, before rescaling I’d take the filter out. And after rescaling cycle I run the same cycle with the clean water to get rid of any descale remains and wow all clean and done and no flickering lights. And I’m grateful to the author every time😊❤️

Why the HELL is the second cycle NOT in the damned manual and instructions??? The manual just said run 50:50 through using the one cup button. 2L of vinegar, plus TWO whole bottles of descaling solution (4 doses), plus SIX cleaning cycles and tablets, and I was about ready to throw the machine away and buy something else from ANY other brand!! Finding out about that second cycle just saved my sanity (and wallet)!!! Why that’s not in the manual I’ll go scream at Breville about :) Thank you for saving us from their stupidity!

GOD BLESS YOU!!!! I want to add I have a 870XL and I did not have these issues the first time I clean the machine. But this time water did not flow through the portafilter but the back tray, and this damn light won’t turn off. Did some research and realized that’s because I bought a replacement rubber disc and it doesn’t have hole in it like the original part does. Hope this info is helpful to other frustrated espresso addicts like me, and thanks again for this God sent video!

I am not a science teacher but I love to read the manuals of all my new “stuff.” The cleaning instructions in this manual are shockingly bad - and not for lack of proper English either. Very strange. I’m glad to meet another manual reader though. 😊

Seriously. This is the one!!!! You may have tried using descaler to no avail already. Make sure you use the special descale mode AFTER the cleaning mode like he says. The light has been on for _months_ and this finally solved the problem!

This service light came on three months after getting new machine and light would not go off. Went to Breville service agent and he said just unplug machine and it will reset well guess what two years later I am still looking at the light UNTIL NOW. I agree you should be the CEO of Breville. Thanks for the instructions, very helpful, but did you forget to mention to remove the filter BEFORE the descaling? It could mis-lead some people with filter full of solution residue inside.

Yes +1 to this comment. You must remove the rubber tablet holder from the Porto filter before you run the single shot cycles or the water will not come out…. Check that… it will come out somewhere (all over my countertop… took a while to detect that). Thanks for this addition to an otherwise spot on and very helpful video!

Yes! You dont want the filter to soak in the descaling solution if you do not plan on changing it at that time.

Thank You! The manual says nothing about specifically starting the Descaling program with the 2 cup / Power buttons (at least my older manual). It's built into the software of the machine and starts with the 1 cup button lit up to show you which one to press. It seems know the timing you mentioned for each of the 3 steps.

PRO TIP... if you have a ''newer'' machine, water will NOT come out of the portofilter as the ''cleaning disk'' has NO holes! Many don't know this as even in the owner's manual it isn't indicated! So, just complete the same steps, but there is no need to place a container under the portofilter... before you start though, make sure to empty the ''tray'' below as the water goes into the tray once the cleaning cycle begins! Cheers everyone!

Question... You started this process with the portafilter utilizing the rubber tab holder in place. I get that we need that for the standard cleaning cycle, but does that also apply for the decalcifying cycle too?

No, it's not needed for the descale, only the backflush

If you have distilled or RO water in your house, you MUST re-minerlize before using in any espresso machine! RO and distilled water on its own can be very bad for the internal components over time

Have a read here through the article below. Re-miniralizing can be done in-line with an RO system, or by simply mixing in an additive like "third wave water" with your RO water in a jug before pouring it into your machine.
