That's how all home brewers should do. Brew, make notes, check final result if not great - aim the problem, fix it and brew again. Love it, great video.

Exactly right dude! Mistakes are always frustrating, especially if it’s a keg rip out sitch, but I now know I’ll never make those same mistakes again!

The way you added the peanut butter powder on the second attempt is very close to how I do it. I pull some of the boiling wort off nearly at the end of the boil to dissolve it in a separate container but then I add it to the fermenter rather than back to the boil. I let it sit in there for the whole fermentation process and I think it extracts a lot of peanut flavor and aroma that way. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to do it myself but that has worked pretty well for me

That’s very interesting! I may give that a shot next time man, maybe keeping the powder in the ferm will get more PB
@TheBruSho2 ай бұрын
Oh damn this sounds right up my lane! I did something similar a few years ago and the PB powder sucks up a lot of volume, but adds something wonderful to the beer. But I will say the PB flavor mellows out the longer it sits. I saved a bottle and 6 months later it was almost nothing like it was freshly tapped.

Yeah I have heard this, I really hope the barrelled version retains something! But I’m skeptical, I did also watch your PB&J vid too dude hahaha, something like that might be our next PB challenge

Love these types of videos. Tell us what went wrong. We all learn! 🍻 I made a chocolate peanut butter (English) Porter once that was a crowd pleaser. I toasted the cacao nibs in the oven before pitching them after fermentation was done. I then used peanut butter exact. Read that PBW can clump up and sink to the bottom making it difficult to exact the flavor you want.
@flyingwombattv2 ай бұрын
Yeah we found that as well, I’m thinking next time round I’ll do it all again the same way but ALSO add PB extract and see what that adds to the beer
@paulschroeter49872 ай бұрын
i think i seen somewhere online that has peanut butter extract syrup

Yeah I think I’ll be using that next time. Powder in the boil and extract end of ferment

Seeing the brewzilla that full gives me anxiety! How was the clean up? Version 2 sounds delicious, can't wait to see the barrel aged review. I love peanut butter and have tried a couple of commercial peanut butter stouts. Interestingly, quite a few use hazelnut flavour and call it peanut butter...definitely not the same thing!
@flyingwombattv2 ай бұрын
Hahahaha did for me too for a minute there! Yeah V2 was wayyyy better 😂 although I wouldn’t mind doing a PB and hazelnut combo, that sounds delicious! Honestly cleanup wasn’t that bad, just like in my cleaning vid below, just ran hot caustic followed by acid with the “spray ball” and she looks good as new

I probably wouldn't worry about head retention so much from the dark/roast malts, those are consistently shown to be foam positive. Carapils/Dextrine malt is the exact opposite though. It adds unfermentable sugars but actively diminishes head retention, despite what maltsters claim it is for. Wheat, chit malts, rye, and oats are all good subs when you have foam concerns though. The beer sounds like a great idea. My wife would be horrified. 😂
@graeme022 ай бұрын
Interesting. I assumed Carapils was added/included to increase head retention. I may try swapping out Carapils for Mallokup Chit Malt on the next batch where Carapils are called for in the grist. Homebrewing experiments and exploration are all part of the fun IMHO.
@flyingwombattv2 ай бұрын
Yeah I’ve gotta say in my experience dextrin malts are used because dextrins are unfermentable sugars that encourage head retention and body. Hahaha yeah make this one for your wife though if she’s a peanut butter nut and she will love you even more 😂

Great video, I subscribe to the channel! I noticed on your blackboard that you got a white stout on tap, would you mind sharing the recipe? I randomly came accross that style but there is very very little info on it. I love stouts and coffee, my best friend hate them with passion, I would love to pour him innocently some white stout and wait for his reaction (I will personally make good use of the beer he doesn't drink :P)
