I worked as a lot technician for a few years in high school/college, can confirm it was a miserable bottom rung experience but my god it was one of the most fun jobs I've had. It was two of us catering to three small dealers and were so unimportant we didn't even have a manager and as long as it looked like we were working nobody bothered us which meant we could do pretty much do whatever while on the clock. Besides whipping dozens of cars with single digit mileage between lots at Mach 3 all day, perfectly lining up a shipment of 40+ brand new Corvettes in front of the showroom, or driving all over the state it was heaven... Then the management changed and all the perks evaporated so I left for greener pastures. Good times...

Oh, you have no idea how many people work those dead end jobs that screw up for reasons like: fooling arround too much or that they have lack of motivation to do everything right. I used to work at the warehouse in one furbiture manufacturing company, there wasn't too muvh work that day and so i decided to drive arround with a forklift to pass the time, while i was doing that i drove almost full speed and made obe sharp turn, next thing i knew, i fliped the forklift on the side, surprised that my supervisor didn't file a report to the boss especially when i wasn't in the best terms with her.
@ZeroGDucks2 жыл бұрын
I made plenty at my old warehouse job 😀 -Called UPS because I forgot to attach shipping labels to an urgent customer order. -Drove to YRC to add a box to a pallet to Peru, because I forgot to put it on. -Flat out forgot to pick and pack an entire week's worth of orders placed by Amazon. -Flat out ignored a smaller order placed by Amazon, because we were short a specific color rubber mat, and I felt too awkward to ask about it. -Forgot to call the post office for 3 days straight to pick up orders. They kept me anyway. Partly because all my coworkers and supervision were in Canada, making it cumbersome to replace a solo employee based in the US. Mostly... because they rarely needed to know anything ever went wrong 😉

I was a lot attended at a local Hyundai dealership, and all I can say was it was one of the most interesting jobs I've ever had! we had to get gas for all kinds of different brands, makes and models of cars. I also worked in the wash bay and got to take all different kinds of cars for drives to! I drove everything from a twin turboed Subaru legacy, decked out fair lady 300z's and the 3.8 Hyundai Genesis sport coupe. It did come with its drawbacks, we had to wash cars in the freezing cold weather with s***** heat and also hall people around whether car was being worked on. But there's never a dull moment! I even saw the technicians clear codes on used cars before they sold them, some pretty shady s*** went on lol! And whenever I would take the cars out to get gas which was about a 7 mi round trip on country roads I would hot rod the absolute hell out of them lol!

It's still pretty shady. Because if you know about the car's computer system you can clear the code and it usually takes at least 25 mi of driving before it will pop back up. The dealers themselves would ask the tech to clear the codes... Still a pretty s***** business practice
@DemonDownings664 жыл бұрын

I worked at Big O tires in the city of Norco CA, about 20 years ago as an installer doing oil changes and tire changes... anyway, there were a total of 3 installers including myself that worked there regularly, the other two guys were twin brothers and on one morning they both quit, leaving me all by myself to handle EVERYTHING that came in. I was juggling multiple cars with oil changes, tire rotations, wheel balancing, the whole nine yards.. while I was running around trying to get all this shit done, my boss tells me that there is an emergency job that I have to do and pulls me off all other cars... he needed me to change out two tires on a trailer that was carrying a small yacht. And when I say small yacht... I'm talking a massive fuckin boat. Well, I got the tires changed all right but under the stress of having to hurry back and finish the other cars I was working on, I completely forgot to torque down the lug nuts on the one side of the trailer.... about 20 minutes after the trailer left I could hear my boss screaming from inside the sale room floor... the fucking boat spilled across interstate 15 just a couple miles down the highway from the shop. Atleast one of, or possibly even both of the tires popped off the trailer. I literally saw my boss through a glass window being restrained from coming after me in the garage. No questions...., no goodbyes... I grabbed my shit from my locker and split. And that was all she wrote for me at Big O tires...

I was a porter at a chevy dealership and this is giving me the most specific PTSD flashbacks. On the bright side I backed into a highway patrol car in the car wash, pretty much totaled it and had to drive it to the body shop across town as an 18 year old in a beanie and it was probably the most entertaining moment of my life on behalf of the looks I was given

Oh the cop cars were fun, specially because they didn't put the out of order decals or light covers on 🤣 they were natural gas and we had to do fuel system cleaning. So there I am redlining a cop car up the freeway at 90... Then slow down to like 50 and watch everyone freak out

Ding Ding The KZbin Buddy there really isn’t just one thing bad about being a tech. It’s the effect storm of craziness. One saying about being a tech is “you’re only as good as your last mistake.” I can fix 99 cars perfectly and forget something stupid on the 100th and that’s how I get judged. On top of doing my own job I have to do the jobs of others at my work. I have service writers that refuse to do their jobs and essentially steal money from me and it’s ok.

I feel your pain man. I spent too many years as a car detailer for car dealerships. Being a Porter is a bad job, but detailers are the ones s*** on all day long, depending on where you work. I always loved it when salesmen, who were unable to sell cars for hundreds of days, would blame us for it because, after the hundred people got in and out of that car, it was 'dirty' and we all sucked at our jobs because of it. S*** rolls down hill at car dealerships, and it usually lands square on detail. Some of those cars that we had to clean were horrible, I remember one that looked as if the previous owner used to throw his coffee everywhere. Also got one that had rotting dog food in the back in the cracks, with brown seats that were supposed to be tan. 12 hour detail right there. My favorite were the ones that college kids owned, since they seemed to have thrown up everywhere in the car. I'm glad I know how to do that job, but I'm even more glad I never have to do so again. Getting laid off as a car detailer was likely the best thing that ever happened to me - I got myself a degree afterwards and never had to do that job again. Made my life so much better because of it!
@freebilly95262 жыл бұрын
As a detailer who moved up the ladder to become assistant manager of the detail shop (wouldn't need one if not for my boss being lazy as hell), I can confirm the said rolling downhill of fecal matter. Everything (and I mean literally everything) is detail's fault. Rules are made by people that have never detailed that make detailers' jobs more difficult. Detail never gets any recognition for successes and milestones. I literally caught a man trying to steal a company vehicle and got locked out there with him alone while the assistant manager of the entire place locked himself in my shop. Did I get anything for that? Nope. Not even a thank you, sorry we had to put you in harms way like that. All that being said though, you get to a point where you stop caring and you start just having an absolute blast by getting into all kinds of shenanigans. And, when you're me who does basically every job you could possibly be asked to do better than literally anyone else, you get quite a bit of job security and can get away with a lot.
