The UK is set to leave the EU in six weeks’ time, but bad blood lingers against Nigel Farage and his Brexit Party.
EU Brexit co-ordinator Guy Verhofstadt issued the bluntest of verdicts on Mr Farage’s legacy following a sitting of the European Parliament on Wednesday.
He tweeted, alongside an open-mouthed gif of Mr Farage: “This morning in the @Europarl_EN everyone said: we will miss our British colleagues. The @LibDems, @UKLabour, @theSNP and @TheGreenParty. True!
“But I won't miss Mr. Farage and his Brexiteers, I can tell you that much.”
Guy Verhofstadt, Brexit coordinator of the European Parliament, urges UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to give EU citizens full rights to remain in the United Kingdom.
Speaking in the European Parliament, the Belgian MEP claimed EU's "consent" necessary for the first stage of Brexit to be completed will not be as straightforward as people think.
Mr Verhofstadt urged his MEP colleagues to deny such consent to the British Parliament when it will come to rectify Boris Johnson's withdrawal agreement unless the Prime Minister gives legal assurances to EU citizens living in the UK and UK citizens living in the continent.

@@Jamie_Johnson Fun fact: in 2004 trouble emerged in Flanders (and Belgium), because Verhofstadt wanted voting rights for immigrants, and the rest of his party (and the general population) didn't. He took over control and started an internal 'genocide', kicked out multiple liberals (some out of their current position, others out of the party), even leading to a suicide. He lost the next election, to the conservative-nationalist cartel. The beginning of the downfall of his party. He's the only VLD-member left in the EU parliament.
