Between 1996 and 2014, less than one seventh of the legislation we put into law was brought in under EU influence. And we voted for 98% of it. So much for "Brussels telling us what to do" - they didn't tell us to carry out ideological austerity, they didn't tell us to have a referendum where one side completely lied, and they didn't tell us we should trigger Article 50 without even having a plan. I'm worried May will resign, as that's what anti EU politicians want. We might leave the EU with Boris Johnson as leader. I'm unsure if most media is dumb, or if it's trying to dumb down society by getting people to care about talentless celebs? I've studied EU law, and hardly see any real facts about leaving the EU. I've seen some write that they want to leave the EU because they don't want people here from Pakistan, so they don't even know where Europe is or why people came here from Pakistan
@susiea37765 жыл бұрын
People don't know everything from the EU has been good and everything from Tories has been bad. Anti EU politicians just don't want EU protecting British people, such as EU saying workers should have enough breaks and genetically modified ingredients should be labelled. People trust Boris Johnson on leaving the EU. When he was on a TV show trying to get support to arm extremists in Syria against Assad, like how whistle blower David Shayler told how Tories were funding Al Qaeda against Gaddafi, the media made a fuss about an unimportant dumb comment he made, but when he said on the same show that there wasn't a vote on the second war against Iraq, the media didn't say anything, when we wouldn't have gone to war second time if more Tories hadn't voted yes than other parties. That means he's an evil liar putting on a clown act to get away with telling Tory lies and media is in with him, or him and the media are stupid, but he keeps being given important jobs running the country

That is because satire ignores political bullshit that the bbc and others always talk about then dismiss, satire just dismisses it and treats it as stupid. It used to be the role of the 'fourth estate' but the British press nowadays is a watered-down joke, that no longer does it's job. Anything outside of neoliberal orthodoxy is automatically labelled as, 'exremist' or 'dangerously radical'. The press has always been full of shit. The difference was, in the past, there was an intellectul heavyweight core, at it's heart, who were real investigative journalists, or columnists who really did ask the difficult questions. Nowadays they're merely the propaganda arm of the establishment. Political editators and commentators, in particular, appear to have little more knowledge and understanding of politics than your average, 'man in the street'. The news now consists of re-hashed PR releases, from government, businesses and lobbyists, badly researched scare stories, unchecked internet stories, 'human interest' stories and endless vox pops, (what 'Harriet from Barnsley' thinks about a major news story is now vital news reporting, allegedly). Throw in the odd, carefully chosen, disaster story and you basically have modern journalism. Oh, I almost forgot, endless hours of reporting on, 'the markets'. and 'business'. Always from the neoliberal and business owner perspective...

Trevor Noah has his moments, Pie is definitely one of the best in terms of commentary but you don't get informed much. @Oliver Matthews No, you wont. The idea of Britain you have now will shatter as you drag your failing economy behind you on your knees as you are cut away from the EU as a tumorous growth. You will be alone, not part of the EU, a small fry in the pot of massive economies. Trying your best to secure trade deals but having none of the leverage you had in the EU, you will have to sweeten the deal so much you will squeeze your middle class dry until all you have left is the barren economy of a people that thought they could put the squeeze on the EU for even more benefits. Now you will have to deal with America, South america, Russia, EU and Asian massive booming economies and the only way they will even see you as a partner, is if you promise them heaven in a hand basket and it will cost you everything. The EU, as poisonous as it is, is still a big enough player to set demands, and this thing is easier to control when you are in it, than when you are out of it. Leaving the EU just means you cut away any control you had in it and does nothing to change it, since you STILL have to deal with it day by day. The super rich dangled a false dream in front of you like a juicy worm and in your eager you swallowed the entire hook. But you do you, buddy. Keep dreaming that dream... @@jawjagrrl Welcome to the wonderful world of Societal Contracts. Germany may be on top now, but it won't always be that way. Germany may be helping now, but eventually (this is not an If, but a When) they will need help. It's the same way here in the states. In the beginning, the southern states may have contributed more to the federal taxation system, however, that was on the backs of slavery. For the past 100+ years, red states like Alabama and Louisiana net receive federal tax dollars, to a crazy level. Last I checked, for ever 0.50 cents they pay to the federal tax system, they receive $3.50 in aid and benefits (like for Welfare, Medicaid, Social Security, etc). Meanwhile, states like NY and CA are net payers, for every $15 they contribute, they receive $1. Again, it's been this way for about a century, and ironically it's not the New Yorkers or Californians complaining about taxes and Social safety net benefits - it's the ones in the red states complaining. Someday, when they get their wish, and the federal dollars stop flowing back to the states, they'll realize just how wrong they were. Also, when you say "yankees", are you referring to us in the US? We didn't bail because of financial reasons. We left because of religious persecution. That whole "Boston tea party" and "no taxation without representation" thing was just the veneer the Founding father's (and the white wash for modern history books) used to unite people to their cause. Truth is, the king hadn't collected taxes from the colonies, and never really made a big deal of it. Not until we started being petulant children about it all. I mean, yeah, we had our reasons for wanting autonomy, but it wasn't to avoid paying taxes really.
