I love the story that the flight attendant told about Ali. She said she stopped by his seat and told him to fasten his seatbelt. He looked at her and said I'm Superman I dont need no seatbelt. She said if you were Superman you wouldn't need this plane. Ali laughed out loud and said well played young lady and put his seatbelt on.

I once had occasion to see Muhammed Ali in person. He spoke to a crowd at a shopping center. I was very much surprised. He was very serious, nothing like the comedian we were used to seeing on TV. He spoke about serious issues and answered serious questions from whites and blacks alike, especially kids. He was a real gentleman. I will never forget one of his comments. He told the crowd "Understand something: boxing is my career. It is not my life." I was greatly impressed.

By his own example he instilled hope in millions of young athletes all over the world to achieve their own greatness. By giving up his title and refusing to join the military, he raised the consciousness of the world. He was a master in the ring, and was a great entertainer as well. As one of the most beloved and popular men of the 20th century, he brought important issues into light with his profound wit and common sense. I was born in 1951, and witnessed his greatness from the day he won gold at Olympics to the day he lit the flame. His inspiration was felt by many, and his greatness lives on in them. To me, this is an understatement, and not an exageration.

Watching this video I can see that he was more than just a boxer, or a sportsman. He was a philosopher, an educator, a comedian, a poet, a musician, a politician a pioneer, an activist, he was very intelligent and quick witted. He took life for himself and did what he wanted with it, he did everything off his own back and stood by his convictions. He was brave, extremely likeable. He united people of all colours. One of a kind. An angel walked among us on earth. I met him. I spoke to him on the telephone. I stood beside him as he hit those punching bags. He was a perfect athlete. He was a beautiful and a kind man. My son was 4 years old when he boxed him and so my son's hands touched Ali's bandaged hands. Ali was not wearing his gloves and my son came out swinging. I'll never forget my son's little fists touching the backs of Ali's beautiful, bandaged hands. Yep. Heaven on earth.

Contrast that with Dylann Roof, who killed 9 people. Arrested, armed, but not resisting, a danger to anyone within range of the gun he had. @@leanmeanmenace1744 My initial point was being a black muslim in a racist country like america is unimaginable. Your "corrections" show you know nothing about american history. Mohammed Ali biography mentioned how he was forced to sit in the "black sections" of buses and nonstop racial abuse. America was and will stay the stolen land of the natives. You should research on how 80 million innocent helpless natives were killed by columbus to make america. And that was just the start to record number of lives killed in wars and only country cruel enough to use nuclear powers on innocent living beings TWICE.

@@factspov6301 I hope you have read up on US history since this comment because slavery had been outlawed in the US 100 years before Ali even became a lightweight champion. This WAS the time of segregation and the Civil Rights era but slavery was over along with sharecropping. Black Lives Matter also isn't a native movement, it's a Black movement. A relatively new one at that, founded in 2013. Native Americans have had their own movements like the NARF and AIM.
