Trick-taking & Area Control/Majority was previously done by the game Joraku (a marvelous little gem).

The game looks fine but why is it so often out off stock?

Thanks for the review. I had a rollercoaster of emotions when I saw this game too. On one hand, I was absolutely in love with the art and theme as I’m Irish and the artwork is very reminiscent of our secondary school history books, so I got a massive nostalgia buzz. But then my heart kind of sank when I saw it was trick taking, as I don’t tend to enjoy that normally. Your review gives me hope though that I could enjoy it. Slight Shame the colours don’t really pop on the board, it looks a little hard to discern.

Give it a shot, I actually really like the trick taking part in this game, I find the lose + drafting works well with it.

I'm probably too green to really know what I'm talking about, but just for fun I sought to pin down which mechanics I would most relish in an ideal board game. Allow me to phrase my hypothetical top six thusly: 1. Subtle/advanced DEDUCTION (you could also call it inference) 2. DECIPHERING (clues, codes, ciphers, riddles, texts, visuals) 3. Deep-level LOGIC (often includes a predictive dimension) 4. DECEPTION (sometimes takes the form of a traitor) 5. HIDDEN MOVEMENT (adds an air of mystery) 6. SUSPENSE (i.e. specific design features or rules that exist intentionally to intensify this feeling)

Was playing The King is Dead a couple of months ago thinking, wow, I like this game. Then saw that Brian Boru was from the same designer. I immediately pre-ordered it without knowing anything about it except it had trick-taking (which I like).Thanks for the review! Looks nice and… I think I’ll like it 😬

Lol fair enough :) Some designers are autobuys for me as well.

Very helpful video indeed, About sums up what I expected it to be, but it seems that the amount of cards is not much looking at the small stack of playing cards. But I haven't hear you talk about it, so it must be a proper fit to that gameplay?
@Bonzoso213 жыл бұрын
There are 25 cards numbered 1-25 and belonging to one of 4 different colors (3 suits and a wild). Players are dealt an equal amount, leaving 1 mystery card out of play if playing with less than 5 players. They then draft 2 cards at a time until they have their complete hands for the round (8 cards for 3 players, 6 for 4 players, 5 for 5 players). One card will not be played during the trick taking phase, so it's ok if you get passed a card that doesn't work well for you. Yes, the deck is small, but it feels right and also means that after just a few plays, players can recall which numbers belonged to which color and be more effective at drafting and playing off of their opponents.
@Sebastian-rt9qf3 жыл бұрын
@@Bonzoso21 thanks for the explanation.Seems quite fit in that case. So each trick taking phase you might end up with similar cards (depending the draft) as the previous round.

I saw this game online and was sooooo put off by the art on the box cover that I refused to even look more into it lol. Shows how much art can do for a game. The mechanisms do sound intriguing, I'll just wait for another designer to do it better with better artwork :)
