I love Branch he’s a combination of LB, Safety, and CB all in one player. He’s just a really good football player

I love Branch. He does all the dirty and smart work the backfeild needs. He was the one player the Lions picked in the '23 draft, where I jumped out of my seat and yelled, "YESSSSS."

Too bad saban is gone now. I was just starting to actually adopt alabama as our permanent minor league market and become invested in their success (which is wild to consider as a michigan fan for life). Wonder if it changes drastically without saban.

NFL experts consider him a nickel corner, while Iffy and Joseph are the Safeties. I like how you described him as athlete. He's as close to a Troy Palamalu type as I've ever seen. So instinctive, a sure tackler, great hands, and excellent football speed.

Great comparison to a Troy Palamalu type. I can definitely see that and it explains Branch very well!

Coach you are correct about the concern for fans over Brian Branches injuries from his rookie season. One reason I believe that GM Holmes went after and signed CB Amik Robertson is to take over playing the nickel/slot with possible rotation with the rookie Rakestraw. Also if SS Malinfonwu starts camp, preseason and the first four games before the scheduled Bye healthy ...it will NOT surprise me if the Lions hold Branch out and do this for his long term health as a player. Thus given the increased talent level in the Lions Defensive Backfield and injuries to both Branch and Joseph we may see SS IMU and a FS like veteran Brandon Joseph in place of Kerby (easy to mix up two players same surname) or even Moseley converted to FS ...we will see! Otherwise for the short term, if not the long term Branch's time in Nickel may be done; barring injuries to teammates!!! #GoLions #OnePride #GoGoff #DanTheManCampbell

Article just came out about this as well - projected to have a much larger role on defense this season. Very excited to see if he can become a Polamalu type presence in our defense. Blitzing, sacks, run plays blown up, INT's roaming the defense, breaking up passes in the flats and blowing up screens, etc.

I dont really care where bb32 plays in 2024, or any of our dbs. Brad holmes has been preaching positionless football since he got here. Same with all our dbs, especially. I hope it is truly positionless, and we just see some wild concepts this season. Loved the 4 safet box look we did last year with cjgj, branch, iffy and kerby last year. Looking for MUCH MUCH more of that

I am often confused why people say Branch is a safety who had to play slot CB. We had an opening at safety practically the whole year when CJGJ tore his pec. We also arguably had better slot corner depth than safety depth with the possibility of CJGJ playing the slot and Branch at safety. It tells me a lot that Branch played in the slot all year.

Lions aren’t trying to go to a peach bowl. They’re not trying to go to a gator bowl, or a blue bonnet bowl. They’re trying to go to a SUPER BOWL
@michaelwicklund6 ай бұрын
I know it would limit him but if he can be a guy who we can put as either a deep safety or someone we use to eliminate TE that would be tremendous help in our pass defense I would also not mind if he is a lb since he is good against the run and with our upgrade at dt it would only help our run defense and having him do quick reads in the short routes could take away easy completions from the offense.
@thomaswatkins36866 ай бұрын
No issues moving Branch to S. But if I’ve read right they ate content with him developing into that role as a pro. This is a rare case where a team has IDed the talent of a guy and not pegged him into the role he will grow into. This is probably why he slipped in the draft. He wasn’t an optimal S coming out and if you took him highly you’d be drafting a nickel way too high. Instead the lions plan to move him to S but have the ability to work him into the role. That’s actually remarkable drafting,
@lukenicholie71996 ай бұрын

The fact that he can stop the run, and cover passes along with someone like Arnold means the future of our secondary is going to be absolutely disgusting. The crazy thing overall about this defense is that our LB core is starting to look like the weakest part of it. That’s a good problem to have, given how they’re actually developing well and have someone like Anzalone
@johnschoch53256 ай бұрын
B.B. is no doubt a stud but believe it or not there is a significant number of Lions fan who think he’s average at best. BTW, your play selection tape is stellar. Boundary, field, safety, nickel, Free safety, man, Zone, Run, open field, in the box, blitz, you have them all. Perfect as always.

@all_22_films6 ай бұрын
I'm going to let the Alabama expert answer that one, because I really do not know how. Looking now, barring injuries, it certainly looks like teams missed out.
@staceyvandiver6 ай бұрын
Safeties fell in this draft all together, He also worked out with the CB during the combine and had the slowest time of all CBs. But he was in the top of safeties in combine measurements. Most GMs didn't know where he would play and was he a product of Sabans defense and stacked roster at Alabama. To sum it up GMs over thought it all. He only missed 3 tackles his whole career. He split time at star with Malachi Moore they alternated every series for 3 years in a row 2 5 star safeties duking it out so it limited his perception on tape.
@staceyvandiver6 ай бұрын
Malachi Moore will be a 1st rounder next year
@browncoat51956 ай бұрын
@staceyvandiver id have to agree with GMs overthinking it all. You watch his college tape, and dude is a straight dog. Sure, he ran a little slow at the combine, but all the tape shows he has no problems playing the game. Thanks for the response!
