Recently went digging through some of my Dad's old VHS tapes of football bits-and-bobs. Found this lovely little six-minute tribute to Cloughy, broadcast on the occasion of his retirement from football, 1993.

I could listen to Brian Clough for days on end. We were so lucky to be blessed with this extraordinary man. People like him make football great, he was big headed but in a good way. He never looked down on people for class reasons because he considered himself from the lower classes himself. This just makes ordinary people like him more, one of the legends of Sport. You can debate as to who was the best manager, but you cannot debate on who was the most entertaining, only one candidate.

If he’d got the job, England would have won the World Cup. Always felt he should have got it in 1990 after robson, from the point of view I think it would have reignited him. He was a bit despondent towards the end at Nottingham forest. Feeling obviously he’d taken the club as far as he could. The England job would have been a great way to leave. He was 55 in 1990. Three things I've heard Clough say watching him on KZbin: 1. The greatest days of my managerial career were at Derby (said in 1991). 2. If it wasn't for cheating and bribery, Derby would have won the European Cup. 3. I resigned from Derby County, but looking back the chairman should have resigned -- not me. I know his best successes came during his longest tenure at Forest, but hearing those things (as a Derby fan) always makes me think "what if..."

@@zachbladen I wouldn't say robbed. Our poor directorship led to Clough's departure so we can only blame ourselves. The saltiness is fading to be honest -- Derby have been the marginally better team for the past 20 years, but neither have done a great deal in that time. I just like spreading facts about Clough's time at Derby as they often come at great surprise to people. See you in the Championship next year ;)

As probably one of the few Leeds fans to say this I think Brian Clough was an extremely talented manager, he was Charismatic, flamboyant and extremely witty which is what was so inspirational about him as a personality of the footballing world. He said what others thought. He lived by the sword and carried it well for a very long time and won trophies everywhere he went. I wish he could have stabilized Leeds when he was there but it wasn't the right time for him just after Don Revie's era had just finished. A year or two later and maybe it would have been a better time to be there. Going through history he was probably one of the best man managers of the game and he is sadly missed by this Leeds fan.

Growing up in West Cork, Ireland, I was a United fan since I was 6 years old, from the moment I saw George Best take the ball around the Benfica goalkeeper to score in the 1968 European Cup final. However, me and all my friends (who supported Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham, Arsenal, etc.) supported Forest as well in the late 70s because of Cloughie and the attacking football they played, and I've had a soft spot for them ever since. Those two stars on the crest say more than all the money in the world. My friend grew up in Lowdham, outside Nottingham, and when I visited her parents some years ago they told me they used to be friends of the Cloughs and also Jimmy Sirrel's family (Notts County). It was lovely listening to their stories and felt very much like coming home. What a managerial partnership he and Peter Taylor had, and what a character he was. I love watching these clips about him.

If Malmö was so shitty, how come they made it to the final instead of Real Madrid, Juventus or Liverpool, who were all in the cup that year?
